Despite the bad mech skill tree, its fun to build your mech, and also put all those virtual trinkets in the cockpit. If they sound good, war-horns are always something motivating. Colors, patterns and adding decals are a plus. Bolt-ons, well I think that's a little too far.
In a way PGI has expanded the customization possibilities like no other previous game.

Then apparently all of the talent left the project because, other than netcode, it has all been downhill since closed beta.
That core was so good though that its still an OK game today after all of the downgrades and mismanagement and power creep.

Because MWO wants you to understand your capabilities, and more important, those you don't have.
Yes, to understand this takes time, effort, experience. It's confronting you with yourself. Painfull at times.
But that's why I like MWO somuch.

My dedication is to the universe, not the game. I have been active on the forums but haven't played more than a dozen matches in 3 months. The majority of my play time has been in the mechlab and testing mechs. I find almost 0 enjoyment when trying to play quick play at this point. I am salty, but if MWO shut down tomorrow I would shrug (even after nearly $1000 invested.) and wait for MW5.

However, the stuff layered on top of those base mechanics, like balancing and game modes, are still lacking. It's just that the base mechanics are good enough to overcompensate for those flaws.

IDK what PGI said during the backing stage. I knew it was happening, but since I had no money or chance of being able to play the game on my $200 laptop w/ integrated graphics, I didn't pay in. It sounds like they made some pretty big promises, and it also sounds like the backers should have figured out pretty early on what PGI was actually capable of.

that alone is why im never going to play another f2p ever again. if this is the superior f2p i dont want anything worse and i certainly dont want to do this again.
and frankly i think if more people played mwll id have stuck with that game rather than move to this one.

The problem is meta slavery arms race. People must play the most optimized builds.

I don't know why people say this, it's not really a thing.
You'll certainly do better on average with meta builds, but good players don't need them to perform in QP. The issue here is again, tier/mm/skill discrepancy. I've been on teams with top tier players and we've folded like wet socks, regardless of build. I've pulled out hard carries in the most meta of builds and watched my team run face first into enemies.
But I've also seen bearclaw do 1k damage in a panther with a single LL.
Saying "high tier gameplay" is only a "meta arms race" isn't true outside of competitive. If you're skilled you can bring just about any mech and do well... No if you're team is there to help that's another story.
I don't see brawlbushwackers on any top-meta list. No Phoenix Hawks on there. No 7 ML javelin. LPL Wolverine? Definitely not. Vulcans will never come close to meta. Outside of maybe a Piranha it's probably my best performing mech, I love it. Rac2 shadowhawk... tons of fun. Just about any nova is fun. Jagermechs... fantastic. Roughnecks... solid, not meta.
Lots of fun options out there that aren't "meta" that are capable of carrying.
Frankly, the fact that meta isn't a requirement like lots of other games is one of the reasons why I like mwo.

The problem with MWO is that by the time you get good at it, youre completely sick of it, because its so damn repetitive.

PGI leadership should be ashamed of the blatant bait-and-switch they perpetrated on their customers. But no, they laughed their way to the bank. They're probably astonished that so many customers keep sending them money after each hollow promise of 'big things to come'.
At some point in the not too distant future, charlatan developers will be subjected to class actions by customers holding them to account for failing to deliver on their misleading pre-launch promotions.

As for 'superior game' I can name many many games from the past 15-20 years that do more than mwo to entertain me even though mwo might have the better paint job visually. I don't care how fancy a game looks. i care about how much fun it gives me and how long it holds my intrest. Fun is subjective to a person's own views and likes and I'm sure lots of people find my type of 'fun' vastly differs than their type of 'fun.'
For my the fun part is largely the vast customization of mech lab as far as mwo is concerned. Maps and actual game play of mwo not so much. Go-to-center-shoot-enemy-repeat regardless of game mode.

My only problem is the lack of a steady stream of content!
New maps! New game modes! Actualy interesting events!
Even some goofy events like: Playing catch! Catch the locust!
Whoever kills the locust drops as a locust, locust gets points for keeping high movement speed, other players also get points for killing other players but not as much as the locust gets for moving fast.
Im here to have fun! I would constantly play the game if we would be getting a steady stream of contetnt. Even if its stupid like the one above. Just to keep things interesting.
I play MWO in short bursts, 1-2 weeks, maybe a month, then i dont even touch it for months.... the game gets borring fast.....shame...

Me too, but I love the game, just need more maps..... not solaris BS.
