You're correct, "Incursion" is what I meant, dunno why I typed conquest, other than 'brain fart'... Anyway, make Incursion asymmetric by removing one of the bases, and honestly I think Escort could be made "less" unpalatable if:
1. The speed of the VIP was increased to 60kph.
2. Lengthen the path of the VIP to accommodate the new speed (or add a stationary 'waiting' point for the drop ship, one that is generally defensible.
3. Add short range defensive capabilities to the VIP, a crap ton of small lasers/medium lasers/MG's to eliminate "butt/leg hugging", OR, allow the VIP to knockdown any 'mech that comes into contact with it.
4. Make the path of the VIP a lot less F'ing stupid. I swear to god the current path the VIP takes is typically so goddamned frustrating because there are times he'll backtrack, or move about in a near complete circle, making him that much easier to attack and kill.
This is probably an F-ton more effort than PGI is willing to invest in this game at this point.
Anyone else feeling a bit... betrayed by any lack of significant announcement on the future plans for MWO?
Or did I somehow miss a relevant announcement from MechCon?
