I was just wondering if there were rumors as to what the next mech might be. I assume we will get an announcement possibly next week.

Any guesses?

Honestly, I'm shocked that there are still people that actually care what the next mech will be.. I wonder.. do you buy the new mech packs regardless of what they are?

This game is more and more all about the next mech, and less and less about any semblance of a battletech mech simulator..

I dare you to show me any mech that has any uniqueness, in terms of being special in some way, or having a build that can't be replicated on some other mech, or that "feels" different, special and unique..

All the mechs of a particular tonnage feel and play the same, and many can substitute for some other mech with the exact same build.. And even if the builds are slightly different, the match results are still the same..

So, in conclusion.. the next mech? Its irrelevant.

My wild guess is we might see one of the reworked unseen around Q1/2019. A few reasons! It's long enough since the end of the legal stuff for the normal development cycle (I'd guess). Also it's perhaps early enough to include a 'mech in MW5. And if there are no legal barriers, I'd guess getting the rest of them new designs is on the agenda for both PGI and Catalyst.

My money would be on Crusader and Longbow. Stinger/Wasp/Valkyrie would be great for the HBS BT campaign -- that game really suffers of a lack of diversity of 3025 IS light 'mechs -- but I'm not so sure about MWO.

...and I agree. This game is past a point where it "needs" a 'mech for gameplay diversity's sake. You can do anything you want with the 'mechs we already have.

The niches may be smaller, but there are niches left uncovered. That you personally don't know them or don't care for them does not make them any less interesting for someone else. I for one would love to get my hands on a jump-capable IS 20t or 25t Mech, to name just one obvious example.

I mean, if you think a Javelin or any other 30t IS Mech with JJ is a suitable replacement for a 20t IS Mech with JJ... well, that's fine for you then, but I don't feel the same way.

If the next mech isn’t the Unreal Engine upgrade mechpack then then soon we will see the Light Bill mechpack.

Marauder 2 (100t). SHOULD be. Asked since the game's inception.

There is no 6 jumpjet 100-tonner.

In fact, I no IS 100-ton 'mech currently can have a 400-rated engine like the MAD2. (except for the hero atlas but it will never be for c-bills or on competitive play)

I will answer your question. For me, I will buy a mech if it has some nostalgic value to me. I also consider the aesthetics/appearance, and hardpoint types/locations. If it has no nostalgia for me or is what I would call ugly (example for me: the Scorch), then it needs to bring something new to my mech arsenal in regard to capabilities.

I guess what I am saying is I like mechs. I like building them and trying out tons of different builds. I find it interesting to take what works on a medium and trying it out a bit up-gunned on a fast heavy. It is interesting to see how often the lighter mech is still "better." Bottomline, the mech does not always have to be unique or give a new twist for me to buy it.

I realize I could get by with far fewer mechs. I choose not to and apparently I am not the only one or this game would not be here for you to play. I sometimes pay real money for digital items. At times in games I pay to avoid grinds, at others it is just not to wait months, and at times it is because I am okay with supporting a game I continue to play after years. I do not find it different than a hundred other games out there....heck, some of those are truly only cosmetic and do not change loadout or gameplay at all.

To each his own. You seemed a little upset by the question, so I wanted to explain.

Thanks!

They've broken their own engine cap rules so many times now, it's kind of irrelevant to the discussion.

Only if others try to derail the topic to begin with. Anyways going back on topic the mechs I would like to see next and into 2019 are:

Rifleman IIC in or around January/Feburary (if they skip January, would be awesome if announced on Feb since it's the month of my bday)

Crusader in March

Firemoth/Locust IIC in April (Or throw in an Urbanmech IIC for April's fools)

Longbow in May

Shadowhawk IIC in June

Stinger/Wasp in July

Stone Rhino in August

Thug in September

Phoenix Hawk IIC in October

Brigand in November

Something crazy like the ARES or a quad in December before/if their license gets renewed and MW:O gets drafted into Unreal

Wishful thinking mechs for me would include: Toyama(highly unlikely but I would still love it), Kraken, Turkina, Templar, IS Omnimechs in general (Only one I really care about in this category is the Templar but I can live without it)

Well I'd bet on it being a Clan mech if the pattern holds so let's get the Rifleman IIc so Arnold's efforts are rewarded. Just bump up it's engine cap like what has done before and the only real problem has been dealt with.

For IS mechs
- Brigand, 25t jumping laser boat that complements the Commando very well.
https://mwomercs.com...thread-new-art/
- Lightray, big engine 55t laser boat that we don't have.
https://mwomercs.com...support-thread/
- Dragonfire, arm mounted ballistics with lasers in high mounts plus ecm... It's gonna be good.
No thread yet but art is coming...
- Gunslinger, ballistic, high mounted energy with jj and ecm at 85 tons plus a missile arm hero.

If that name doesn't pass the other alternative is Alan.

I'm going to say Rifleman IIC is the move, since the Clans pretty much have zero other options left between 65 and 75 tons.

Looking at underused weight classes and weight brackets I would guess either an IS 25-tonner or an IS heavy.

Maybe the Ostmann Industries will finally be able to show off their fine creations?
