Honestly, I'm shocked that there are still people that actually care what the next mech will be.. I wonder.. do you buy the new mech packs regardless of what they are?
This game is more and more all about the next mech, and less and less about any semblance of a battletech mech simulator..
I dare you to show me any mech that has any uniqueness, in terms of being special in some way, or having a build that can't be replicated on some other mech, or that "feels" different, special and unique..
All the mechs of a particular tonnage feel and play the same, and many can substitute for some other mech with the exact same build.. And even if the builds are slightly different, the match results are still the same..
So, in conclusion.. the next mech? Its irrelevant.
I will answer your question. For me, I will buy a mech if it has some nostalgic value to me. I also consider the aesthetics/appearance, and hardpoint types/locations. If it has no nostalgia for me or is what I would call ugly (example for me: the Scorch), then it needs to bring something new to my mech arsenal in regard to capabilities.
I guess what I am saying is I like mechs. I like building them and trying out tons of different builds. I find it interesting to take what works on a medium and trying it out a bit up-gunned on a fast heavy. It is interesting to see how often the lighter mech is still "better." Bottomline, the mech does not always have to be unique or give a new twist for me to buy it.
I realize I could get by with far fewer mechs. I choose not to and apparently I am not the only one or this game would not be here for you to play. I sometimes pay real money for digital items. At times in games I pay to avoid grinds, at others it is just not to wait months, and at times it is because I am okay with supporting a game I continue to play after years. I do not find it different than a hundred other games out there....heck, some of those are truly only cosmetic and do not change loadout or gameplay at all.
To each his own. You seemed a little upset by the question, so I wanted to explain.
Thanks!
