'WTF just happened?', is what i asked after my mech was constantly shot from behind and i couldn't find anybody firing at me, even when i was backed to a wall. when i died the info just said my name , no one got credit for killing me, I didn't kill myself. So WTF PGI, WTF?

My guess, tiny light stayed straight behind you, even when you backed into a wall. I've done that to Assaults and Heavies before. Its possible you lost a side torso or some such thing where you blew yourself up, which would in theory not indicate who killed you. Those are my best guesses.

I had a weird kill the other day myself..

I was shooting LRMs at this guy.. and he was near death.. but he ran into cover, behind a big rock on Tourmaline. I stopped shooting for a second or two, locked another target.. then I got the kill on him..

So I literally killed this guy, while not shooting at this guy, facing directly oposite of him, and locking other targets, with him being behid full cover..

Another win for hitreg..

Or an ammo explosion.

Dunno about OP, but your story could well be a chain reaction ammo explosion, Vellron.

For ammo explosion kills the credit usually is given to the person who caused it, unless it was self caused. Or maybe the explosion took off a side torso and you overheated.

What Shanrak said, at least that's my experience on ammo explosions. Shoot mech --> mech dies in few seconds after the shot and I get the kill.

I would also guess overheating or just some random PGI.

Ah, the ammo explosion explains a delayed warhorn/kill credit I noticed a couple of days ago.

Probably a stealth mech hitting you.

This makes perfect sense, except for the part that apparently the game reported that he died without a killer. No red or blue name, not even his own. Supposedly, anyway.

It IS possible to die from lag, by which I mean actually dying from lag rather than damage inflicted by another while your connection is faltering. I died once in the past during the dropship sequence on Grim Plexus because my connection was horribly lagged out and I took off running for a Conquest point... not realizing my connection was lagged until I saw that no one else on the team was moving. Eventually my connection re-established itself, warped me to somewhere between my current and drop locations, and killed me on the spot. Even that produced a suicide message, though, so I'm not sure what kind of situation would lead to an unnamed death.

If you got a suicide message, you probably got DHS/ST destruction, the new heat system killed you, and a bit of lag may have covered up the few seconds of heat spike that killed you.

If no message popped up at all, the game bugged out, someone (Either you or an enemy) got credit, and the game just didn't report it. I've seen this happen once or twice.

you may have crited his ammo. when you get an ammo crit it sits there for a little doing a light show before damaging his mech

What game mode were you playing? If it had turrets, it's entirely possible you were killed by a friendly turret trying to shoot through you at an enemy. Happens on occasion.

Nothing weird about this. You caused an ammo explosion chain reaction which can sometimes take a few seconds to kill the victim. You hit him, his ammo started exploding, he took cover, you changed targets, and then the ammo explosion took out something important.

Yeah I was going to mention this. The new heat system is a killer, literally. I really don't like the feature at all. You are engaged, usually in a brawl and pushing maybe 70-80% heat then BOOM there goes your ST and BOOM there goes your mech. What happened is when you lost the ST, the penalties associated with the LFE or Clan XL plus the loss of the DHS automatically spiked your heat up to the instant destruction zone immediately. I was very, very confused as to what the hell was going on the first half a dozen or so times it happened.

I hate the new heat mechanic... but I've been having a lot of fun with it in Solaris. You can intentionally take a deadside off of your opponent and they won't be able to fight back, even if they have all of their weapons left lol.

I like the new heat mechanic. It adds depth to the game in that now all 3 engine types have pros and cons resulting in SE's being worth something now.

I feel Clan XL's are MUCH closer to being balanced with the change as is...

Running hotter when side-cored is fine. Being heat-spiked into a shut-down is not.
