remember that time i got killed by ac2s

wait no, i don't.

if you can't kill people with the AC2 then why use them.
Btw i have killed plenty with a dual ACx2 config. and its only a little of the speed that they have nerf. so we probably survived.....

Lights in BATTLETECH are for anti-infantry, scouting, marking targets, capturing objectives and hit and run harrassing, and since MECHWARRIOR is based on BATTLETECH, this is what light MECHS do best.

1) There is no infantry in MWO;
2) Scouting is pointless, bc maps are either small, too open or have very few focal points;
3) Marking targets is useless, any good missile user gets his own locks anyway, and feeding bads instead of fighting is dumb and offers no rewards;
4) 99% of games are solved in QP by killing enemy team, this is THE objective;
5) Hit-andRun harassing only works if you can deal substantial damage, lonely 2xERLL Raven is ignored and has no impact on the match outcome.

So you are just saying here: "I want lighter mechs to be even more useless" - by using more words for some reason.

The problem with lights is that people don't want to play them the way they are intended to be played. Too many people just want a small, I insanely maneuverable MECH that is able to tank better than an Assault and has as much firepower as a Medium or Heavy and they will cry if they can't have their cake and eat it too. Lights in BATTLETECH are for anti-infantry, scouting, marking targets, capturing objectives and hit and run harrassing, and since MECHWARRIOR is based on BATTLETECH, this is what light MECHS do best. Exploiting the fact that there are no longer knockdowns or any significant collision damage in MWO and just staying around the legs of bigger MECHS so you can be underneath the range of their arm or torso mounted weapons is just as toxic as the "lurmtards" and "MECHdads" that people always complain about. A light pilot who focuses on evasion and hit and run tactics is far more skilled than the "leghumpers".

The problem with lights is to many people expect them to be played like this is an entirely different game and not MWO and PGI has listened to them to much. To many people want a class that is just straight up weaker than the other classes so that when they take their preferred larger mech they can auto win vs the few people who would still play lights. They want bigger is better so they can have their cake and eat it too. Lights in MECHWARRIOR ONLINE are for capturing objectives and fighting, and since fighting is what most of the game is, fighting is something that all mechs need to be able to do. Ignoring the fact that this isn't TT and that this game already has auto aim anti light weapons, multiple gameplay systems that hurt lights more than any other class, and the fact that LIGHTS ARE THE LOWEST PLAYED AND PERFORMING CLASS in the game is toxic.

Hello, everyone. I can unfortunately say CONFIRMED that it's not only just Rhialto seeing this long-standing issue. I get it too, because someone amongst PGI's Developers never properly synced the Weapon Doors (and some other things) to the Chassis on which they're mounted. This is particularly visible from within the Cockpit of the various Mechs with the shadow problem. Pay more attention to your Mechs with those things, folks. You'll soon see what we're talking about. No, what I am saying is that exploiting a flaw in MWO that exists because PGI gave up on knockdowns and actual collision damage, which allows light MECHS to be played in a totally unrealistic manner requires about as much skill as playing a lurmboat or streak boat. These same light pilots are the ones who are most vocally complaining about restoring some of the functionality of the one weapon that can hit them when they underneath the firing arc of most weapons. Yes properly playing a light MECH is challenging and more than most people want to deal with, but remember, even in BATTLETECH, Lights Heavies and Assaults are supposed to be relatively rare on the battlefield and Mediums are supposed to be the most common MECHS.

If you are about crotch-hugging, then:
1) it can be done only by the smallest lights (20-25t);
2) and vs only the tallest mechs;
3) that also happen to only mount torso weapons;
4) using this tactics makes the light mech extremely vulnerable to allies of this tall mech;
5) to do this you also need to be very close;

Which makes this tactics pretty dangerous to the user and ineffective in 99% of situations.

I used Stalker and Annihilator for the assault part of the event aaand... Stalker has zero problem seing and hitting any light mech up-close; Annihilator was able to kill piranha jaust fine with 2 arm-mounted UAC/5 (wasn't able to see Piranha itself but reticle square was there, so gg). And I must say that Annihilator accomplishes in 30 seconds of engagement the same task as Flea is only able to do in 3-5 minutes of constant fighting.

Saying that lights mechs need nerfing because once under the blue moon (once per 20 matches) they can leg-hug one potato with arm-lock, who doesn't know where free-look button is - is pretty lame IMO.

Which of these am I sorely failing to do? It is not my intention to be a ****. All I'm telling you is that saying that someone has no idea what they are taking about because they don't actively play lights at this time is unreasonable.

Saying I made claims that I did not make is dishonest.

You said you might be missing something. I said that seemed to be the case with the obvious explanation being you don't play lights. That is not unreasonable.

I didn't say "someone has no idea what they are taking about because they don't actively play lights at this time" and again you're back to dishonesty.

ok now its my turn to do a little ranting, after i have been reading 8 pages Posted Image

i was very excited then they first introduced the bolt-on, i know that many of you did not like them , some say that the military would never allowed it, and also a bunch of other reason.
but i sure that mercenaries would pimp their mechs, just look at truckers what they do to there truck.

ok what i really hate about them is, they simply fall off way to easy, sometimes I wonder if it's the wind that have taking it off.

i have a big axe in my banshee hand, the banshee is a 95 tons mech, with very big hands, but i just lose the axe with nearly no impact, I could understand if it got damage or the head of the axe fell off, i think in real life i would weld it so it did not came lose, and the tusks always fall of in pair.

so please PGI why should i spend real money on something that just will fall off when hit by a shot, or a collision.
please let them stay longer, or let the slowly get shot to pieces.

Except...aside from the forum warriors of decent actual game skill... 98% of the player base is dumb or scared and want to hide behind terrain firing indirectly.

I've gotten harassing kills on assaults with repeated rear torso hits using just two c-ERML's... don't discount the guy with two ERLL in a raven because you lack the skill or patience to do it properly.

then turn your shadows to low... eliminates the problem, increases the gamma level of all maps such that you don't need night vision in the basement of HPG ever and can easily see that all black stealth light standing motionless who thinks he's hidden in a shadow. Also improves your frame rate per second. If you have the seismic nodes, you don't need to depend on a shadow being cast around a corner to know the enemy is coming when you're camping a spot.

I did not say that lights need nerfing, I just said that removing some of the streak nerfs is good, because light MECHS do just fine and do not need crutches. Also streaks are the only weapons that can counter "crotch hugging".

Except sometimes crotch hugging mysteriously makes you lose missile locks, still not sure why that happens.

Chris, you broke the HBK-4P. It was a great medium pulse laser platform. The quirks, as minuscule as they were, really made it shine. The mech has the tonnage to run those MPL's and make them great. But you got rid of those quirks. And the HSL on the medium lasers doesn't apply to medium pulse lasers.

Chris, why did you quirk this mech to the stock loadout? Why not let all 9 hardpoints fire without ghost heat?

9 medium lasers does little under as much damage as 6 MPL and 3 smalls. But you got rid of the quirks that made this mech mediocre to run anyway. But now you've gotten rid of those quirks. You've made a net nerf. Bye bye variety.

PGI, 8 medium lasers and 1 large pulse laser generates less heat than 9 medium lasers. WHAT ARE YOU DOING???

Please stop nerfing everything.

You've already driven off the core fans, now you're just punishing the whales that stuck around.

The rise of nascar is directly caused by the heat changes added on the last knee-jerk(patch).
Nearly every match is a death spiral of idiots chasing each others backsides.

YOU did this PGI.

After I saw few streamers playing new streaks I just wanted to ask... What's the exact point of playing lights at all these days? Especially the IS ones that get instagibbed in a single volley due to xl death?

After not touching MWO for 6 months I find it a bit more polished now. With some love it could last a few more years easy.

Any arm mounted weapon will do, dakka, lasors, missiles, as long as its arm mounted.

As with any choice in mechlab, every choice has its advantages and disadvantages you have to live with.

For example go all torso weapons and you get the advantage of greater protection for your weapons versus limited firing arc.

Its a fair trade.

Also being on the watch for lights specifically so you can damage them earlier before they get into short range helps.
Lights are like Boom/Splat/Party mechs, you don't let them get close if possible.

And so take every opportunity when the lights are in your best range not theirs to damage them.
Once damaged they don't wanna come so close no more.
