My good sir, win condition for battletech has always been to eliminate the enemy at all cost. even lore peeps will agree on that honor is a huge part of lore which is why some players get salty when they get gen rushed for 4 waves in a row. there is no honor in that tactic

In the 31st Century life is cheap but Battlemechs aren't...

The problem I have with FW as it is now, is thus:

Yes, I am in a small unit, and when we drop solo, it's always big unit stomp-fest. I've tried joining bigger units after my old unit fell apart, but there was always the same issue.

Big units tend to run cookie-cutter meta mechs. and refuse to incorporate all playstyles into their tactics.. so I get fed up of being told what mech to bring, what build to put on it, and how to play it real fast. And LRMs are a big no-no when all your unit does is SRM rush..

So I stuck to my own small unit, and occasionally "guest star" with other small units or solo players to form a larger group. And I also pick play times when most of the big stompy units are sleeping or are at work..

Hopefully, the PTS FP changes will change all that for the better..

Sigh...

You mean they don't accept your Lurm-Boats when they want to brawl.

Thats the problem of how YOU understand teamplay. You just want to take Lurms regardless if its a good tactic or not. An Unit tends to take the weapons systems which promise the most success.

Tbh i am always glad to see you on the other side, so i know there are no 12 men coordinated and they will have backstander. Good my planning.

I don't know what big units do but successful units such as BCMC/EVIL groups run a lot of various builds mostly geared towards players preference based more on range we want to engage at. With lurms however, they are highly situational. That said we have a couple of guys who run them when they feel to, and no one cares as we trust our guys to contribute and work whatever they choose to bring.

That is weird, tbh.
I'm having my own 1 person unit. I drop solo or group up with folks i know (luckily, i get invites for decent "on the fly" premades often) and i play an aweful lot of different styles.
Of course i bring what works best with my current teams composition. Why would i bring a narc and 3 lrm mechs to an attack on vitric. That doesn't make sense.
However, i play a very very wide variety of mechs and decks.
pure dakka decks
pure laser.
Mixed dakka vomit
Narc light + lrm boats
Rushdown decks
slow as hell defensive decks

i even run a pure heavy gauss deck with nothing but 6 heavy gauss on 4 mechs, and even that works reasonably well (in the appropriate situations).

I usually stick one oddball mech into each deck (not effective but more fun).

I can't really relate to what you experience. Unless you run with very strict units you should be good without bringing ultra meta cheese. Or your impression of what would be a good deck for a task (mode, map and teamcomposition) is likely a little bit off.

I also shouldn't start every sentence with "i" but.. meh.

Dropping with a unit generally means people expect you to play as part of a team. A lot of "big units" don't even bring meta mechs, but will often have some form of deck synergy (whether clearly stated or implied). FP also has mech selection after map/mode is known, so it allows you to take more effective loadouts based on map, unlike qp where you take whatever you take and then hope for a favorable map. This means the expectation that you will have an effective setup given the map is much higher.

Thus you will keep having trouble playing with organized groups, because their idea of teamplay revolves around everyone taking effective builds for map and working together, while yours is that you will always have mechs in front of you to eat enemy fire and hold locks for you. That's not to say lrms have no place in FP, quite the opposite. There are maps where lrm is basically easy mode meta. Where many organized teams will in fact all run LRM/NARC mechs and just delete enemies off the field, but it's only on those maps. Also there are some good players who can run lrms more like...mid range streaks. They move with the team, rotate to share armour, and for the most part use their own locks. These types of players would generally do just as well with DF mechs, but for funzies wants to do some aggro lurming. Organized groups have no problem with these types of "lurmers" because they can be trusted not to sit 2 squares behind you leeching locks. That trust is earned, and based on how you run lrms, you haven't earned it

Hobbles did it first and it makes a lot of sense when you consider clan narc effective range forcing you to play at mid range with team. It's one of our builds I wish people outside of our island picked up on, but instead I see more people running baraduls more missiles build. Personally feel that narc narc more valuable and three fifteens is plenty especially since you can stuff a lot of ammo on it.
