Why are people constantly going on about 1000 or less active players?

Because they are using Steam's concurrent player count ( https://steamcharts.com/app/342200 ) , don't realize it doesn't track those who are using PGI's launcher and are too dumb to understand that it's not the same thing as total number of active players.

Because a certain someone let it slip on his twitter that the 'more' players were using the steam client than the standalone - so if I look at the currently playing right this moment on steam i see 754 in game, and thus assume that there is at most 753 using the standalone client.

When? Last I recall the information was that they were about equal, which was also backed by data from SteamSpy and Isengrim's leaderboard parser.

Hell if I remember, but its been a few years at this point - the problem is no one is saying to the contrary (officially) so people still assume, though to be honest I personally am still inclined to believe the bulk is using steam. Anyone that began playing in the past three or so years likely did so through steam, MWO gets very little attention elsewhere (no advertisements, most of the streamers/tubers that play it play it near exclusively) and the number of older players we have lost is likely staggering - relatively speaking.

I was referring to your claim that "The whole game is discriminatory against anyone with a higher ping than 30." ;p

But if you like, check the stats on my alt "Horseman IIC". I don't play it as much, but I don't experiment with builds on it either (which I do a LOT on this one).
5906 Horseman IIC
Umm was thinking you meant it was a better ranking... Its not as good as your Horseman one. Anyway who cares, its better than being 11000 ranked Posted Image

Sounds like you're watching win count from Season 29?
Win number is pointless, any potato can pad it by spamming a large number of matches.

Switch to average match score or just check the parsed leaderboard data at https://leaderboard.isengrim.org/ - https://leaderboard....0D%0AGeminiWolf

Which is the current season... Don't trust Jarl's list... Trust the MWO's leaderboards

Actually, the list remembers the last settings you used. If you visited it three months ago and visit it again now, you will be getting data from three seasons ago rather than current.
Current season's ranks for that account are 1936 on average score, 3650 on kills, 9455 on deaths, 1459 on KDR, 6106 on wins, 8865 on losses, 2108 on WLR and 7646 on match count.
Either you were looking at number of wins (default sort order) and assumed that's meaningful (it really isn't, someone who played 1000 matches and won 500 would be "top ranked" on win number despite being too mediocre to have a meaningful impact on the match results) or you're looking at outdated information. Check the drop-downs and filter settings! Posted Image

Jarl's List aggregates data from MWO's leadearboards and ranks players by match score - which, while not perfect, is more indicative of the player's in-game performance and impact on matches than most of the other stats.

Flamers and lasers are your best friend. Replace SPLas with SHLas due to changes in the game

Just a heads-up warning to those who will dare to try this build:
Lock on to the target and check its loadout before attempting this.

During the previous event, I encountered a flamer Nova that tried to heat my Assault up and attempt the headshot. Unfortunately for them, I was in a FNR-5 with Heavy Gauss Rifles. I just laughed and shot them.

I have run this build and have headshoted a FNR-5 with dual Heavy Gauss. I got him to overheat after using his lasers and then zap headshot.

Jarl's List is a far more accurate indicator of player skill than the MWO leaderboards, because it uses Average Match Score, a rolling average, and even calibrates for different performances of different weight classes.

In the 6+ years, Ive landed about 40 headshots, AND none of them where on purpose

Its not that head shots are impossible, its that PGI mechs are so broken

There is a few mechs that you get the head shot from the rear,

Others you can strait up hit the cockpit square on, and the mech takes the damage to the rear center torso..

a achievement thats not worth the time or effort

Actually its quite easy to get headshots nowadays, there ase so many bad players now, who stand completely still: I wish this was the state when i hunted for headshots for the guillioutine a year ago.
