I play the game sporadically at best sometimes not playing for up to a year. This time around i have been dusting off some old old favorites and trying the new shiny stuff on them.

I realized that a lot of players now have never actually faced some of these mechs. This leads to some funny moments where I can imagine the Nerd Parade guy yelling "MISTAKES WERE MADE, MISTAKES WERE MADE".
I decided to bring out the Misery which is a mech I never see in pugs anymore, I had a few tons an slots I couldn't figure out what to do with so I opted for an lrm5 and ton of ammo for the boredom shots at range. This guy in Raven came charging in close to me, Im guessing he saw a Stalker lobbing some lrms and decided to get inside lock without taking the time to check my loadout. My actually weapons loadout is a UAC 20 and 5 mpl. He acted quite surprised and panicked, and tried very hard to back inside a building.
For my own amusement I try to guess what's going through the guys mind, I came up with "oh my god that Stalker has a cannon, why does that Stalker have a cannon...".

Good Times.

I run a Florentine with Dual LBX-10's...

I love it when someone comes up to me with flamers... I keep firing and they can't seem to understand why I haven't shut down.

I have the Resistance pack so have all the Crabs except the Florentine, been thinking about picking up it and the Paladin just for the Dakka. Don't see any variant of either very often.

Bringing out my Victor and Highlander and surprising people by jumping over obstacles and buildings to unload a large alpha ((U)AC/20s, SRMas, and SnPPCs) right into them from above. Someotimes in a brawl I'll just jump right over them and unload into their backs. Its almost like some people don't really comprehend that assaults can jump too.

There's no mech labeled "Paladin". If you mean Partisan, there are better dakka options such as WHM-6R

To be fair, there isn't much of a story in beating a suicidally overconfident light mech pilot. If the guy just ran to you without checking your weapons loadout, that's his fault.

:>

i kinda confuse myself all time, recalling the Crusader as Paladin Posted Image

i agree tho, playing some old mechs no one uses anymore is hella fun.
victor's and highlanders can really hurt if played well, too many just dont want to put the effort into playing them to their limits.
they are brawlers after all. lost art.

Doesn't get more classic than a Hunchback and I'm still taking my 4G out pretty frequently. Haven't even swapped to the UAC20 versus the vanilla AC20, so I'm still running a version that's very close to the classic 3xML + AC20 build but taking advantage of some newtech for the engine, light ferro and extended range on the lasers. Seems silly to think I'm still playing this mech after 6 years and that it remains my favorite among the 243 mechs in my stable even though it was the first I bought.

Apart from the HBK my Centurions sees quite a bit of action, usually the AH which has admittedly replaced the YLW for me. It's pretty classic too, considering it was the second medium in the game.

I still frequently run my ON1-V (this first mech I added to my garage) and the Protector (the first Hero I picked up). Really fun to play with mixed builds.

I think the constant nerfing of damn near every weapon has brought at least some builds full circle. E.g. Back in the heyday of IS LPLs, I, along with many others, used a 3LPL Quickdraw 4G. Even before the LPL was nerfed I played mixed SRM ML and MPL brawler builds for a long time, but after the LPL nerf they were out right superior. But as the years have gone by and everything from SRMs, ML, and now MRMs have been nerfed, I find that once again the old 3LPL build is probably my most effective 4G build. Same thing with the old 3LPL(+2ML) Thunderbolt 5SE.

Yup that's the one, I've played the warhammer and I've played the BK's from the resistance pack I haven't played one with cannons and rockets. Looks fun even with a goofy name and I have yet to see one in pug matches.

Having run Stalkers and Ravens the only thing he did wrong was not push the R key, see a stalker lobbing lrms and you hug his belly up under where he can get the lasers pointed. Sure you will take some hits from mediums but it's going to be splashy not focused because of your speed. It's all about getting inside 200m, getting pegged by 5 mpl and UAC20 is just not expected.
The whole point of the story is I changed a variable most of the current player base has never encountered, in the last year or 2 how many times have you seen a Misery in pug play? It's a beast but has a mixed bag of hardpoints that doesn't allow boating anything that other mechs specifically other Stalker variants allow. Boating is a thing, Im as guilty as anyone I don't like to run more than 2 weapon groups.

Why limit your dodgy Light piloting skills to 'Mechs you are unfamiliar with? One of my more memorable Piranha moments was when, for some reason, I decided to duel with an Orion IIC. That ended in precisely the way you think it did.

I recently equipped my Vindicator -1AA with two SNPPCs.

The armour quirks and the surprisingly good geometry make this Mech quite tanky. The SNPPCs are cool enough and work well with the PPC quirks of the Mech. It is a bit short ranged, of course, but it works on most of the maps if you play it right.

Too bad the Vindicator is a Liao-Mech...

You're missing the point. It is not about meta or better, it is about having fun and not care about elitism.

I actually have that mech sitting in a bay with that build untouched in 3 years, was a FP crutch mech. Think I'll give the slow little **** some play.

yeah the Highlander is fun to bust out, 150+ CT armor is good.

And you can do some nasty builds on them now.
HGN-733 with 4x ASRM6, 1x AC10, 2x LPPC, 325 LFE.
HGN-733P with 2x HPPC, 2x MRM10, 1x MRM20, 325 LFE
