Fast queues will not help if the game isn't fun. A fun game with slow queues wont help either. We need both. And having one topic per thread makes sense.

Queues like this are not any more helpful than unbalanced ones: Posted Image

The reason the queue is like that is because people like me, who used to play about 10 matches a day - by switching sides to create matches - have completely given up queuing.

There is no point discussing ad nauseum whether the smallish number of Loyalists will or won't get what kinds of LPs when the number of actual FP matches being played is about a tenth of what it was... because of faction locking.

People like you are not the only ones sitting out. People who are dedicated to their faction(s) are sitting out as well. (In fact I'm playing right now because Jade Falcon is up in the queue.)

But some good news: If you're right, and Loyalists make up a "smallish" population not worth PGI's time, they'll probably do away with LP etc. If you're wrong, well, maybe not.

Something related to matchmaking and Loyalty: When developing alliances, it would be best to make sure that the most popular factions are not allies with eachother as much as possible. That way it's less likely for a majority of the population to all be on one side of the conflict etc. We might have to compromise on the lore here to make it work, but that's reasonable imo.

I don't know, I'm pretty sure we've gotten through to Paul that permanent contracts even for as short as one event is bad for the queue.

Sure but there's a lot more to the loyalist discussion than that. For one thing having permanent loyalist options so you always have your tag but are still able to participate in events is a great idea.

A smalish number of loyalists.

Please provide your metrics to support this. Because for the first 3 seasons of FW loyalists, dedicated loyalists, were running between 1/2 and 66% of total drops. While MercStar was a huge merc unit the largest units were still loyalists.

I get that there's this one thing that's important to you personally right now and the inability of people to adjust to fill the queue to drop matches is an issue. I get that faction loyalty isn't a thing for you. That's fine - however there's a good sized chunk of current and prior FW players who have a connection to a particular faction like people have connection to sports teams. The way loyalists have been treated in FW has always been an issue, this took it to an extreme and it's awesome to see that getting addressed.

Having better options for loyalists could potentially get people to play again who stopped. Of course that's worth a discussion.

I've been playing for 7 hours today and I've gotten to play 5 matches. In that time, the biggest spread has been 8 / 24. More frequently the difference has been only about + / - 3 warriors on either side. The problem has not be unbalanced queues. The problem has been that at any given time there's never been more than around 30 people in the queue trying to get a match. Most of the time it's been < 12 people waiting in the queue total.

Yes, some people may be choosing not to play because they're worried about unbalanced queues. But I imagine that a lot of the folks not playing atm probably are folks who don't care about Jade Falcon or Diamond Shark loyalty (or folks who only wanna play IS and are waiting for that to come up).

BTW that's 5 matches I've gotten to play out of the total of 11 matches that have happened in the last 7 hours:

Again, the overwhelming issue has not been unbalanced queues. The problem has been empty queues. The hard-core FP players aren't playing, and folks who aren't hard-core aren't gonna be bothered to wait an hour for a game.

As for the rewards themselves, it needs to be self sustaining. Any level based system means we eventually hit the top and there is no where to turn.
We would be better served being able to unlock the ability to convert our loyalty points to MC after attaining certain rank [emphasis added]. This creates the desire to play more to earn those points back.
Offset this with something like having more voting power at higher ranks so it ties in with something like voting on alliances in the events and you have to weigh up spending those points or saving them to have more influence.

I think this may be the best suggestion yet for those who max out the loyalty rank. You can make it a very steep conversion rate, but it will provide a pretty attractive incentive for people to get to level 20 and stay at level 20, and could very well attract more loyalists than ever before.

Truth. RPTG Would be dropping like crazy this weekend if we could have had our CJF banner by now. In fact, none of us even realized that CJF was even up for faction until I saw the war history this afternoon. Pretty disappointing.

My unit jumped in for the last 2 hours, everybody else was asleep while it was goin on. I stayed in queue for 11 hour straight and got to play about 8 matches.

The Design or matchmaking or the fight of IS vs IS, IS vs Clan or Clan or clan. All is still fine. its interesting to use the opponents mechs and rethinking and loading. But i hope something like a leaderboard score or global score or something is normally a standard motivation reason. Especially for a solo player or twitch streamer. ( not me i am only viewer LOL ). it was a reason to see the top players on leaderboard and watching over them or to see if someone is suspicous or something ;). Scoreboard or leaderboard is normally essential for a competitive game like MWO in my opinion. i hope it will come back soon the leaderboard back. Regards to you. I love your Game. But like a leaderboard was for me the most interesting thing. To see and watch over the top players. hehe LOL. Regards to you all. ;)

Item 1) Appogee et al. As per the post about post patch incoming changes... there's already an incoming improvement that will allow players to switch sides on a per phase basis. It's not swapping every match but every few hours. While it may not suit everyone's needs at the moment, it's still miles better than swapping every few days. We're still discussing internally on this matter and as I said earlier in this thread, it's not off the table... just trying to keep THIS discussion focused on the FP Loyalty issue which is a much bigger implementation than fixing the queue (which can be worked on while this discussion is going on).

Item 2) The video.. I have the 'art' (if you can call it that) done and am doing the inline animations right now... should be done with animation in about 1-2hrs and another hour or so to do the voice over. It is still coming tonight, just letting you all know that it's not forgotten. Timeline animations aren't exactly quick.

Do you think it would be possible for there to be a thread dedicated to discussing matchmaking ideas with a similar format? If you have a game-plan to pitch for feedback. This thread was really helpful for the LP issues.

Request: Set the video to "The Sweet Escape" and use at least one spinning text transition.

Will probably start one up on Monday... or possibly Tuesday (hint hint)

Please remind me why we need a matchmaker since its not working intended Paul? The amount of waiting in Queue not being able to switch to get games was what fixed that problem and now no longer exists...

Making the video that explains LP point accumulation including feedback from the community. Basically summarizing the discussion so far.

Well now.. this is a kick to the junk. The web uploader won't accept a file this big. Looking for a solution. And no I don't have access to the YouTube channel.

It's 11PM here and no one is around... so I'm going to have to do this.

1) Wait til tomorrow morning to get someone to either put this on YouTube or get the webdev to figure out why it's not uploading.

2) Leave you with this:

Apologies folks. Will get this addressed ASAP.
