The gauss mechanic ruined some of my favorite builds (because really my gauss+2ML YLW needed a nerf) and ghost heat also affected a ton of my favorite builds that weren't even part of the pinpoint-alpha problem. I would call ghost heat the single-most deleterious decision that PGI made with regard to my enthusiasm for the game.
...

It is all a matter of perspective. We all want that the game envolves but don't except changes. I started with ghost heat and for me it was just natural to limit he number of similar weapon systems because the decreased the Time To Kill (TTK).

The gauss mechanic came in to limit the pin point damage to increase TTK.

When we start to understand that our exploits are limiting the fun of the other gamer, I guess than we start to really enjoy the game. I this zero sum game the wins of one if the lose others. Only in match score you can achieve synergies.

And everyone forgot about flamers and stealth armour changes - lol.

I find your ability to deal damage to my mech limiting y fun. I'd like to see the removal of weapons from all mechs PGI.

I feel like you being able to see my mech is limiting my fun. PGI pls balance that.

I don't like how you can lock my mech. It ruins my fun. Radar should be removed. Balance this PGI.

yeah...

If we are talking about a post-MWO world, can we at least bring up testing the market's interest with a re-launched Transverse pre-order? It's been 5 years, we have waited long enough.

MWO have a very positive point… It can money to do a separate game MW5... without MWO, MW5 just dont exist, at least to this time (maybe on more years… or maybe never).

MWO need a rebuild (refit and rearm :) ) but it still be a money maker to develop new games (even with BT franchise, beacouse they have done bit part of the mech models even more).

If MW5 Works well (and maybe they can use the sale of RX3000 series to be a "banner product" and going to more people), still be posible, that MWO, go to that "refit and rearm" using resources from MW5 to upgrade MWO.

The MW5 coop mode, can be very funny… but is only a way to give 2 or 3 lives a game of single player (if player can take decisions that change the end of the game, may be, it can give some lives more, but It Will still with a defined limit).

MWO, at contrary, give to MW a nearly unlimited play time, beacouse, the "enemy" still being humans some more skillfull some less but human dont programed with a limitative response on the game o points of activation.

MW5 can give them a big profit, but in a limited time... MWO, can give them money to do another or more games, it only need a bit of work to take positive aspects of MW5 into a new MWO.

Of course, I can think that only to few months to release MW5, they must set all resocurces on it… to dont take problems on their launch… beacouse all depends of it… even any future that can take MWO.

For mi part… the only thing that i can do... is buy the few mech packs that I no have… is a risky bet… but… I think that is the only think that I can do to help to the future of MWO... Maybe I Will lose my money… but maybe, I can give a bit to raise the odds to give MWO a long live.

And here I though all Clan/IS differentiators died in 2016. Apparently not.

I dont care what they say about no multiplayer in MW5 now.

If MWO dies, there are still many people that would give real world money for virtual mechs. I am quite positive that they will implant a online-multiplayer modus too, so they can sell us the same mechs again that we had in our bays in MWO.

They would be stupid if they would not prepare this already. That they dont, is just marketing talk to not kill MWO that fast. However, now they did it with this dev diary...

But to admit it, by constantly not listening to the community and its suggestions, by not providing any new content, by wrongly focusing on ESport and by providing patches that force loyalists like me to change factions every week, effectively killing the last fun left in Faction Play, PGI has made it quite easy to say goodbye to MWO.

The challenge has been the same for the past 3-4 years when the population REALLY dipped... any notable ability to segregate out out players from kiddie pool, to deep end of the pool, to KGC w/ 6lmg+flamerz for teh lulz went out the window...

Everybody wants a certain game that they envision in their head, but there is no way to group people up casually to make that happen.

Too little too late with a sprinkle of snowflakes.

Lot's of rage in this thread which, yeah, that's been the MWO forums since their inception.

I think it makes sense that they're pivoting to MW5. It's a new game that's about to launch and they aren't exactly Blizzard in terms of resources to throw at projects. Does that mean MWO is dead? Probably not. Does it mean that MWO is going on the back burner? Absolutely.

Hear me out though. Once MW5 launch happens and the support for that dies down, what happens to MWO? If MW5 does well, it may be that MWO gets ported to Unreal engine and winds up folded into the MW5 product. And that's an exciting prospect not just because the Unreal engine opens up the door to much larger and more interesting game modes. Think about all the assets that are being created as part of MW5 in terms of destructible environments and AI opponents. Imagine an escort game mode where the VIP has his own vanguard of tanks or an attack/defend mode where artillery vehicles come into play for the attacking team and must be countered by the defending team.

We could be cynical and say nothing good will come of this and it's the end of MWO, but the work they're doing on MW5 could have a huge impact on future multiplayer mech gaming.

Agree to that! The wrong people are playing together making the experience for everyone sub-optimal.

If you too strong - your opponents are simply too weak. Here MW5 may bring relief.

It seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy to announce things are on shaky ground and then ask for people to invest money. No one wants to put money into a game that is ending and the money may be wasted. They'd be better off announcing some minimal monthly cost going forward to at least give the impression of buying more mechs being worthwhile. At something like $1.99/mo it would be low enough for most people to likely stick around while generating revenue.

Kudos to PGI for telling the truth.
Unfortunately it was bound to happen someday and the player numbers have been dvindling lately.

I'm hoping that MW5 will succeed and that we will see some expansion packs and maybe even the clans one day.
Successful MW5 would also keep the lights on for MWO.
Now I personally stopped playing MWO (except for the occasional game), and while PGI sure did some mistakes, they did keep the Mechwarrior franchise alive, the game offered some great and tense action when things went right and they did save BattleTech from HG.

Thanks for that PGI! Really hope things will work out well for you guys (so you can all keep your jobs) and I really hope MW5 will be a great game (also for my own personal gain if I may be selfish here for a bit).

You've said it best, right here. And I agree, so many cynical people on this forum. They don't seem to understand that a successful MW5 will mean MWO lives. And if it doesn't there is always HBS's Battletech or Mechwarrior Living Legends, the latter of which I play on the side here and there.
