You're still going to be able to mod the game.

7.) FOR WHICH PLATFORM AND DELIVERY METHOD AM I PRE-ORDERING?
- The MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries pre-order received through the Community Edition is for PC only.
- The Community Edition Pre-Order program will provide you with a key to the Steam version of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries and the other Digital Content upon the game's release. The key(s) will be provided through your profile on this site.

Yeah, just blowing smoke just like Phoenix Point, Shenmue 3, Metro Exodus, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, and probably some others I am forgetting.
Really it should teach us all to not pre-order or back projects. Just wait till it launches before buying (in some cases months after). I normally don't pre-order, but this franchise has a tendency of getting me to do that, and unfortunately I got burned this time for my trouble.

The AMA will not change my mind, personally speaking. Sorry, but I feel that the exclusivity is wrong on a consumer level. My problem is with Epic and their decision to force this type of activity. While it frustrates me to see MW5 go this route, I bear no particular enmity toward PGI. However, I will not buy it until it is available on other platforms.
Yes, Steam did need viable competition, and having more options is a good thing. Unfortunately all making exclusives does is make things worse for consumers. Just wait until Steam and GOG start doing exclusives, and then the exclusives will become permanent. Perhaps companies will decide subscription models are the way to go, and consumers can all just pay monthly fees to access games instead of buying them....Every time I look at digital distribution for games and film, it gets worse and more firmly anti-consumer, so I will fight it in the only way I can.

I hope the payday was worth it Russ. I really do,because PGI seems really good at burning bridges, ever since the CBT.
Microsoft should just yank this licence already. PGIs done enough damage to Mechwarrior as a name.

It gets better.
They didn't have e-mail verification until last week.If you created an account with a typo in your e-mail... as soon as that account got logged out you lost everything you had on it.
Oh, and shopping cart? They started banning customers from their platform because those customers purchased multiple products in succession. During a sale.

So be patient.
But do not expect a good game.
Even mods do not help much.

I'm pretty sure that the CP2077 excuse was ******** from the get go. Just like the Epic Deal under the works when they announced it for steam, they were working out with a deal with EG7 long before the CP2077 was even delayed.
As for the Steam release, eh, going to give it June. Then again, if they have the tenacity to sell it at full price, after 1 year of release no-less, when the game itself isn't even worth 60$ with that quality, I ain't buying it on steam release day.
