Mechwarrior 5 Release Date & Epic Games Store Exclusivity

PGI, I get it. Pay your bills, make sure your staff can make rent and feed their families, and get the game finished and out there. I hope it's awesome and it you make lots of money. I will buy it (again,) when it's released on Steam, whether it's already great or still incubating. I decided to take a chance on you when you announced pre-orders, the incentives were fun, and I still hope for the best regarding MW5.
That said, I have no use for an Epic Games Store key. I do not want one. I will not be using it. I'll give you a week or so to figure out whether you can set up some kind of delayed Steam key delivery for the pre-order, and if not I hope you will still be handling refund requests smoothly at that time. I have had (and hopefully will continue to have) a great time with MWO, and you've earned enough goodwill from me based on that alone to earn some trust and support toward your next game. My refund request (and I presume a large percentage of the many you will get,) will not be a withdrawal of that support, it's just that I have no use for the item offered in exchange.
The important bit:
I know you're in the PR Bad Place right now and everyone will be piling on, but as a fan who honestly wishes you well: you need to do something more to address this. The pre-order bonuses were fun, and we'll get to keep those, but this situation has turned into a huge let-down for many of us. Getting a refund and then rebuying the game and playing it a year from now doesn't compensate for the faith we put into your game, nor the fun we expected to get out of being early adopters. It's not about MC, or in-game skins, or anything like that. It's about recognition that we're your base. Your mothership announcement should have led with gratitude to your supporters, not sounded like a train-station time-table revision.
You didn't get ahead of this, but please try to catch up to it. Try to make the Steam key delivery a reality. Recognize your pre-order supporters somehow, even if they are asking for a refund now, when they play the game later. Epic might be giving you excellent support, but remember that we were the ones who bought a pig in a poke from you knowing that odds were better than even it would turn out to be a cat. Don't blame us for being allergic to it.

The best thing that can happen is the Mechwarrior licence is rescinded from you and given to a competent developer. Maybe one day we'll get a Mechwarrior sim that actually takes skill to pilot beyond heat management, awareness and positioning.
I was likely going to be disappointed by MW5 anyway - from the gameplay footage all I've seen is terrible AI, arcadey, babby-mode gameplay with no AutoCannon recoil, no knockdowns, no removal of pinpoint convergence or anything like that.
Thanks for offering refunds though. Now it'll be easier to pre-order Doom Eternal. On Steam.

The gaming industry has changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost. For none now live who remember it. It began with the forging of the great game launchers. Steam given to the elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. GOG to the Dwarf Lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And Origin, Origin was gifted to the race of men, who above all else desired power. For within these launchers was bound the strength and will to govern each race. But they were all of them deceived for another launcher was made. In the land of North Carolina, in the fires of Cary, the dark Lord Sweeney forged in secret a master launcher, to control all gamers and into this launcher, he poured his cruelty, his malice, crappy coding, and his will to dominate all life. One launcher to rule them all. One by one the free launchers of the gaming industry fell to the power of the Epic launcher. But there were some who resisted. A last alliance of men and elves marched against the armies of Sweeney and on the slopes of Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of all gamers and consumers. Victory was near but the power of Epic exclusivity could not be undone. It was in this moment when all hope had faded that gamers, took up their father's keyboards and mice... Sweeney, the enemy of the free peoples of the gaming industry was defeated.

While I agree its biased, when I first saw it, it was during the time when Epic was having monthly data breaches. It might not anymore, but I've still heard horror stories of people losing data and accounts.
And it might not be updated IF Epic ever finishes its roadmap, but how does that impact whether or not the chart is accurate today? And I think the only thing they've done on the entire roadmap is add a optional review system. the other updates to it are just to move the deadlines back. No story I've heard from EGS points to the customer being anywhere on their list of priorities, so I think we'll have to wait on those storefront features for some time.
The [Redacted] data sharing is kind of a conspiracy theory though, and frankly if Epic is doing it, other tech giants are probably doing it more.

^This from one of the more enthusiastic forum posters and long time BT players is a tell tale sign of a serious problem at PGI's end.
Over the years I've seen a lot of developers make big mistakes but I can only compare the instant backlash and Core-players saying they'll take refund asap reminds me crystal-clearly of how Starwars Galaxies did the dumb-down characters update and after all the refunds I heard that it was left it empty by comparison. Russ should consider swallowing his shallow pride and greed to give this "decision" a good rethink.

I paid for a steam copy, you OWE me a steam copy.
^I totally concur with this statement, as many others mentioned its bait and switch because many gamers are on vacation, doing seasonal work, etc during the summer and many won't return to gaming until November. So this announcement is the $ storm that will keep on giving for months to come and probably for years as this "Sept 1st" will highly-likely lead to at least one lawsuit.

I second this BUT I will only wait till tomorrow night AND HOPE THERE'S A NEW ANNOUNCEMENT.
If PGI announces to still release through Steam but only to those of us who pre-ordered... then no worries, otherwise its refund time and it'll be hasta la vista BT community just like Starwars Galaxies all over again (thanks to Russ).
Edit: see all caps!

Because PGI has shown itself always to be insufferably greedy with the constant nickel and diming of players. This was entirely expected, and any behaviour to the contrary would be a miracle. Preordering from you guys and expecting not to get burned (either through things like separate season passes or rampant microtransactions or lootboxes) would be like going to an unlicensed brothel and not expecting an STD. This however, is more akin to walking into an unlicensed brothel staffed by lepers.
Maybe the numbers will add up and enough people will buy your game for you to break even or even make a profit. I don't see it happening though.

And 700+ refunds just for today? Granted that's only steam data, and to my knowledge doesn't include PGI launcher data. Haha, damn..

Thank you for the link to this resource. I have filed a complaint and hope it will be acted upon.
I encourage everyone to follow suit who is willing to do so. This is most definitely a deceptive marketing practice and should be punished by the appropriate legal system.

i had to research and youtube whats wrong with the launcher
and all i could come up with is that theres no cloud save, and friends are harder to find?
the chinese government can spy on me all they want. they can watch me play mw5
Steam price gouging devs is what led to this obvious decision, which should be expected
if Steam had a monopoly on game launchers they would turn evil and abuse power
look at what happened to Microsoft
