Well.... premium members can use the private lobby to play with friends all they like. And if they're all actually new players they can just try sync dropping same as everyone else does already.

So it might be more of them lurking around and waiting for that single player fix they have been craving for so long. :-)
I really hope MW5 will succeed (I want the game to be expanded upon), and it will be intersting to see if it will raise the MWO population.

They will receive good money from Epic but it's bad for the playerbase of both games.
Sold their soul for fast money. You can see Ubisoft and EA releasing for Steam again after they failed their own shop adventure.

Isn't the Lobby free for all? IIRC they changed it from Premium only to free some time ago.

I think you overastimate the 1% angry crowd of forum warriors. Its might not be a top seller but from browsing other gameing websites I have the impression that there are a lot of people eyeing the title because PvP/MWO wasn't their type of game.
Also the past has show that with all the "I will never download Epic stuff" it very quickly turns into "Except that and that Oh and that one is also nice".

IMHO Steam is close to a monopoly in terms of the size of marketshare it commands, and the 30% fee it charges to distribute games is extortionate relative to its costs. So some competition (eg. yes, including Epic) will actually be good for developers and gamers.

While I would have prefered MW5 to be sold on more stores (especially GOG), I don't think that Epic exlusitivity will hurt MW5 (pretty sure the money they got helped them improve the game actually).
It hasn't hurt any other game released on EGS really (even if people keep claiming that).
Games like Metro and Borderlands sold extremly well. It just shows that the majority really doesn't care.
If MW5 fails, it will have nothing to do it been on EGS exclusively.
While I'm not the biggest fan of EGS (it sure has it's flaws), I'm happy they are around.
Finally Steam is improving their client. I'm still more the GOG person myself.
As for MW5, I'm happy to see it been talked a bit more on the internet over the last few days.
Fingers crossed it will sell well.

Now, there's obviously differences in the game mechanics as MW5 has no ghost heat, nor gauss charge time, and there's always the very slim chance that if enough players come over to here and start buying mech packs, and then demanding the elimination of the ghost heat and un-nerf the hover jets because they'll be folks they haven't taken money from yet who they only have to do that for to satisfy.

Or it's safety first and getting enough money upfront to keep the company afloat, especially when their current game, MWO, isn't bringing in the profits anymore.
I swear, some people.....

Are you ever doing anything other than posting absolute garbage?
Premium Time for Private Lobbies was removed years ago.

Unfortunately, right when PGI should be on their toes preparing for an influx of cooperative MW5 players into PvP MWO, doing some heavy monitoring and fixing critical unfriendly flaws such as getting (small) groups into QP, and getting (big) groups out of FP, as well as launching new player friendly events...
Is when PGI announced they did such a good job launching MW5 they're going to take a well deserved break till next year, leaving any unlucky MW5 player to plunge into (and right out of) the MWO chaos by himself.
Many Wasted Opportunities.

Steam didn't steal games from other vendors and made them exclusive.

Nobody would argue against actual competition. When you sell the same product other guy does and win over customers by better services, lower prices and so on, thats competition. When you literally steal product from other vendors and make it exclusive to your shop, thats anything but competition.
