There are some Clan mechs I enjoy, but far more IS mechs that I do (or that were interesting to me at some point)

Both . I have two accounts one for Clan and one for IS . I normally spend a month or three on one account then move to the other .
I do keep half a dozen counterpart faction mechs for Solaris or events that need me to play them .

I use all my premium time before moving to my other account . Events with awesome prizes like .... I dunno Xmas stocking stuffer I try to complete both if possible.

I think clan mechs have been nerfed way too much .

They're still good, but they only do one two things. Laser Vomit and Clan Dakka are beyond mind-numbing.

There is also ATM spam. However, I like my clan laser vomit and dakka and would prefer if those remain the most viable. There are plenty of mixed weapon builds for clans that are considered to be strong.

When i got into the game, i played almost entirely clam, for 2 reasons: i liked their asthetics better (there were very few half decent looking IS mechs when i started playing this game, not the case anymore), and i wanted to pick a single side to go down for FP (dont play that anymore, but i used to). So yeah, back in the day, i liked clam way better, higher tech looks, and while many would object, i actually liked the grey combined with camo scheme present on most rather ten the solid color of IS.

Nowadays, its more of a what mech i feel like playing rather then faction i like better. there are many clam mechs i really like and do well in, and just as many IS mechs as well. Ofc i dont play most of the old crappy looking IS boxes on legs, i dont play anything that cant be made to at least meta to some extent (unlike MW5, lore or mixed builds do NOT work well at all if you have any desire to carry games and win more then 50% of the time at random), but if i had to pick a side nowadays, i have to say IS, despite my initial clam preference. Clam is still powerful (solong as you stcik to either dakka boating or gauss/laser vomit), but IS at least in the current setting is more agile (engine desync really took the fun out of most clam mechs like timby), has more viable variety. Pick from HGR vomit, dakka (both uacs and PPFLD AC-10 spam as on victor or nightstar), laser vomit (less useful then clam but IS MPLs are broken if you wannat do short range), to MRMs and even RACs if you want. Only thing on IS i see as weakish is pure SRM (spread is so bad that even 30+ tubes still wont guarantee destroyed medium mech), and LRMs of any vairety (lerms suck on both sides). Clam has bad everything but aforementioned dakka spam, gauss vomit, laser vomit, and certain ATM builds which while situational are still strong enough to consider a threat if you end up fighting one that has friendly support and doesnt let you charge into 120m).

So yeah, post engine desync, most clam mechs handle so bad that my previous preference ended up reversing itself. With a handful of stupidly broken builds on clam, they generally lack variety and its not that fun to have truck styled handling on mechs that were known in lore to actually be agile (pretty much anything that goes 81kph in lore should be able to twist really nicely). Is still has alot of DOA in their lineup, but i just dont play mechs that look ugly and or just cant be made to perform well in the current meta of this game...

That's what Artemis is for, and IS SRMs actually have lower spread than Clan SRMs...

You can use Artemis IV and I would say that many MWO players do. But in my experience SRM-2 and SRM-4 have acceptable accuracy even without Artemis IV.

I love IS mech at the moment, they are lot more varied and specialised and in general I think most IS good IS mechs are better than good Clan mechs. The only weight class that is dominated by Clan is MEDIUM mechs, there Vapor Eagle reigns supreme with Huntsman not too far behind.

In light class: I prefer a flea to any Piranha any day.
In heavy: I prefer a Quicky IV-4 to any other easy to kill and with poor manoeuvrability clan old man no matter how much firepower it carries.
And in assault: Sleipnir, Annis and Fafnirs are a lot better than any of those squishy clan assault mechs.

IS all the way, never did like Clan even in my old Table top days. just like the feel of IS mechs. then again I tend not to use meta builds and don't care about them, I just want to have fun. I do own a few Clan mechs mostly from free give-a-ways or the odd C-Bill purchase. also as an Ex-Army MLRS operator I live my LRMs and I find IS LRMs much more useful (they hit all at once instead of giving the target time to get out of the way before they all hit.) IS autocannons are betters as well. its not just a weapons thing though as I like the look of most of the IS mechs over the Clan.

I actually never dropped in a Clan 'Mech while playing for the better part of 6 years. Owned a few, and almost entered Solo in one, but the matchmaker wouldn't resolve and I switched back.

I like both, I do think IS weapons and mechs sound cooler ( not that sound effects gameplay)

50/50. Looks like all the balance patches were doing a good job of making this decision harder.

Primary account has 405 mechs, second has 143 and third one has 12 now thanks to the loot bag pick-a-prize. I don't remember what the split is on prime account but second one is almost exactly 50/50 and third one is ummm.... 7/5 in favor of clan. There is enough tonnage in the five to run a 265 ton IS drop deck or a 255 on clan side if there's an event with FP only goals.

I just picked up my 30th Mech and I only have 2.
A Piranah and a Mist Linx.

Everytime I'm ready to buy a new Mech, I always intend to try out a Clan mech, but I end up being pulled back into IS.

That depends. If I want to kick unmentionables into a bloody pulp, I pick IS mechs, like urbs, certain (you know which) dragon, warhammer, vindicator, blackjack, assassin.
If I want to be dirty, I pick clans. Long range lasers, mid range laser vomit, 12 machine guns strapped on a stickman, you know it. Also, we still have direwolf which allows you to gather your hate from all the matches you get pwnd and then channel it in this one match when you was left unchecked.

You can use the sale to buy some Clan 'Mechs. They are going to be much cheaper than they are usually.

Have you been molested by an overly nerfed wet noodle? Sure some were powerful 4-5 years ago, but they are not the thing that ruined the game.
