Is it just me or does the "cannon fodder" get rarer and often one side has now a premade - which leads mostly to a roll?

Well-done, PGI! You know how to really screw customers like no other.

Yesterday was LRM Awesome gang on Harmony's channel. Although, TBF, they did meet a 15 AMS team that limited them to zero damage one match. So they laughed about it, moved on and kept winning.

Had a match against a large 1% er's group, witch is fine. They already smashed us a few games, par for the course.

However one game on Frozen City classic my team were about to get a kill when a team mate proceed to team kill at least 3 team mates from behind for no good reason. Possibly to prevent his friend on the red team from dying.

I never seen this before, talk about toxic, Checked the traitor out on Jarls and they were also 1 or 2%er them selves.
So I reported them for team killing and assisting the enemy, took screen shots etc.
Hope they enjoyed their timeout.

Team killers like that should be perma banned.

There is one unit where I watch my back if they have one member on our team and two or more on the other team.

Are you surprised? I am not. It wont take too long for the lowest of lowest of teams to figure this out. And then yes, surprise, surprise or something in the lines of that......

I may be naïve for an old guy, but I was in fact shocked. I downloaded OBS studio and set record to a hot key so that if it happens again I can record the game and report it. I also agree with the poster who proposed permabanning as the only appropriate penalty. I can't think of too many things what would turn a player off on the game faster.

I've got shadowplay set to a 15 minute recording loop. I was mostly doing that for the amazing games, but it's useful for catching crap like that, too. Useless for amazing Faction matches, but leaving it at 30 minutes is excessive for QP games.

Not sure about now, but previously shadow play could record the last up to 25 minutes
So you could hit record after the fact, a good feature.
I stopped using it when Nvidia made it a requirement to have a log-on.

Come on I bought the card!
I don't wanna logon to access a feature I paid for.

I guess I'd be ok with limiting groups to 2 players, which would could down on a lot of the cheese ******** like narc and LRMs, which ruin the match for other 20 people playing.

Fun thing about cheese.

If you eliminate whatever you consider cheese from a game, almost instantly something else is considered cheese. If this process continues, the end result would be the only things available to play are whatever you're playing.

Excact that was - and is - the case in Solo Quickplay. Go meta or go down in Tier.
That's the reason i run only full skilled Meta Mechs if I play Solo.

...you apparently haven't read the years of data on how the PSR/tiering system actually works, have you?

There are plentiful people in absolute dog-awful builds who wouldn't know "meta" if it slapped them on the backside and called them Mommy in Tier 1. You literally have to deliberately skunk your games if you want to see significant loss in a given tier, especially considering that you can barely do anything, die and if your team wins, it's enough positive gain to wipe out multiple losses worth of negative descent. Heck, I've had games where I was accidentally AFK the entire time (puppy got tangled in the computer wiring and started trying to chew) and because my 'Mech happened to see a few of the enemy first, I managed to gain positive PSR without having moved an inch or fired a gun.

Choosing meta builds and getting to rank 1 are two completely different journeys. The system is designed that if you play, you will become rank 1. Even in terrible builds, even with mediocre, barely-contributing levels of gameplay.

Just to back this up...
https://mwomercs.com...-tiers-and-psr/

Quote

Tiers are NOT a RANK. You do not rank your way up in Tiers.
breaking into Tier 1 is just a way for us to make sure you never play anyone in tier 4 or 5. Anyone who has a slightly positive Win/Loss ratio should eventually end up in Tier 1 if they are consistent in their play and match performance.

If we were to turn off new player registration/sign-up and just let the current player base play on forever, eventually everyone will bubble up to Tier 2 or Tier 1.

... of course, empirical evidence shows that players in the lower 38% of the playerbase with a negative W/L still end up in T1.

@Brain Cancer: This is apparently not entirely true. I just finished a match in one of my Firestarters a little while ago. I got one kill, one assist and some other stuff on top of that (from UAV, etc.). My side lost 5-12 and only two other pilots scored kills (both in heavies). I had the third highest MS in my team and I LOST pilot rank. Granted, I KNOW I am NOT a good pilot, but it is entirely possible to contribute and still lose rank. This in turn means that there is no guarantee that players ever reach tier 1 or even 2. I have played for years and have never even been close to any longer term change. I gain occasional ups, but the ingame bar inevitably falls back to the very bottom.

For comparison, I recently started ERSmurf as my second account. Nowadays, the start point is fairly close to tier 4. I have been sliding slowly downwards and now about half of the bar is already gone. If the patterns hold, that account, too, will drop to the very bottom of the system. That despite the fact that on rare occasion I actually have had the highest score of my team (on the losing side, as far as I can recall I have neverever been THE best player of a match).

On a final note. Given my multiple physical handicaps, it IS possible that I am simply a horribly bad player. However, given the nature of the game... Should that not mean that I should fairly systemically find myself among the bottom three out of 24? Which, looking at my recent screenshots of end screens does not seem to be the case...

*scratches head*

EDIT: Deleted an excess "not" from a phrase.

There are always exceptions to just about any rule, and in this case it may very well be that as one who consistently loses and performs very poorly you will not rise out of tier 5 at this point in the game's life. But the fact is that the system (-ahem-) was intended to merely keep the more experienced players away from the truly new and inexperienced players. That's not an exact quote from Paul, but it's close (I didn't bother trying to find the town hall/developer update thingy where he said it, but he did say something very close to this). His system (-retching-) is "working as intended" (that is quote) with a built in upward bias such that the vast majority of us: the loreholes, the casual mechdads, the stock build players, the provocatively bad, the infirm, etc.will in fact rise, if for no other reason than by pulling the trigger a couple of times and then resting on the back of the occasional win wherein such folks get carried to victory or they just get lucky.

I couldn't count the times when I have been on a losing team, gotten a couple of kills, done the most damage and highest team score and dropped in tier or the times I have screwed up and died after doing 50 damage but went up because the team won in spite of me.

The stats exist, are they afraid to use them because someone's feelings might get hurt?

They are going to get hurt a lot worse being constantly dropped into matches against groups of 4 players capable of wiping an entire team of 12 regular players without setting down their beer bottles.

Sometimes I think they want the game to fail.

So, halfway through the month. I've played at roughly the same pace as in April. Average match score is on track, K/D is a bit lower. Otherwise, I'd never know groups were in the mix, and that's before we speculate on sync drops in previous months.

PGI got something mostly right, first try! How about that.

At this point, the only things on my mind are Quickplay immersion features that PGI never bothered with in its focus on CW/FP.

Like: the matchmaker randomly skins each team as a faction unit, a la CoD. Crucis Lancers vs. Galedon Regulars. Players get extra rewards if they let the matchmaker paint their 'Mech to unit colors. 'Mech choice, even Clan — or vice-versa, if it's a Clan engagement — isn't worried about because it's all in the name of fun. Again, randomly applied so no new buckets are created. Tournament weeks/weekends can add faction themes, and maybe players get extra rewards dropping in 'Mechs stereotypically favored by either side. Simple , colorful stuff like that.
