So riddle me this: why are you Liao forum types all so opposed to birds when all your faction Battlemechs™ are some rear-canted, beaked up multi-ton stompy fowl?

errrr...

I'm not? Seriously, i even wrote fan fic about them. What more do you want?

PS the vindicator is THE signature Liao mech.

If you wanna get technical, there would be no
stock design or look for the Cataphract since
they were all originally "Frankenstein" mechs.
It's how Liao could produce so many of them
by using salvaged Mech Parts.

And the Raven, even post-clans, is almost a
Capellan only Mech

This is a typical misconception, born out of badly written novels.

Ok...

Look at the Raven? Does it seem Liao to you? It's Davion.

Catapult is widespread mech. And we can't build any at the moment+ it was designed by Star League, not us.

Cataphract is also Davion, because they hold Tikonov. And it doesn't look more like a bird than you or I do.

Mechs that matter at this time are: Blackjack and Vindicator.
They are our scouts, fighters, brawlers, support, garrison and basically everything you can think of... :D

Actually that is incorrect, as Raven, Catapult and Cataphract are still all being produced in the Capcon. Many of the mechs that used to be produced on Tikonov continued to be preduced in other facilities like the one on Grandbase to just name one. Those facilities that remained available to the capcon were restructured and expanded to be partly able to cover for the loss of the Tikonov facility.

Just to name one example this excerpt from sarna about the cataract:
CTF-3L - An upgraded version of the Cataphract that follows more in line with the prototype 1X model, the 3Lvariant is propelled by anXL Engine with MASC which allows it to move at speeds up to86.4 km/h in short bursts. The 'Mech is armed with an LB-X Autocannon/10 as its primary weapon which is matched with an ER PPC for powerful striking capabilities at long range. The 'Mech is also armed with four Medium Pulse Lasers for close combat. This design was producedby the Confederation at Grand Base following the ascension of Chancellor Romano Liao.

Shhh... don't support his cause. :)

But as I said, I only lied about the Raven. Grandbase doesn't have a facility for Catapults (nor does any of our currently available factories, even though we had a lot of those, so we happen to have tons of Catapults lying around), and Cataphracts aren't in production there, yet. The actual date of first CTF-3L and 3D (that piece of Daviot junk) is 3051. :D

I wouldn't say that the MWO Cataphract looks much like a bird, bird legs aside. But the original CTF-1X....well, thats another story:

Oh . . . Gawd . . . I mean, . . . just . . . Gawd!

If ever there was an image of homemade sin eating a cracker, you found it.

It's like someone drug a huge electromagnet through the 'mech scrapyard, on their way to an ugly tie contest.

I like the look of Liao mechs.
The Raven is a personal favourite, and if the beagle probe makes it into the equipment table and stealth, made into a prototype equipment, then it will be a truly deadly spotter for LRM support units.

The Cicada will also be a nice flanker/harraser especially if upgraded to an ER PPC, long range mobile sniping at speed.

Oh, I thought since with all the hubabloo bloo bloo about 'goon griefing' you had made an account named as such for the lulz, but misspelled it. It was funny to me for a few minutes.

What is this, people hacking on goons? I never understood the whole 'Goon' thing. Being an avian-based group, wouldn't it be more correct to refer to yourself as 'Loons'? B)

Personally, I don't care what they call you, or what you prefer to be called, as long as we get to call you 'ours' first and foremost. :)

when we made that logo i assumed nobody playing this game would be old enough to know JP album covers. Good job Tatsu.
And yes, it is green poo, my custom Tetatae LAM is pooping on all the freshly washed and waxed Davion mechs.
The term goon to Identify SA members is going on 12 years old.

Thats form the old Liao House book, where both the Cataphract and the Raven first appeared.

@Vandal: That looks like a cool version of the Chocobo Knights from the FF Tactics intro. Pretty damn sweet!

I thought it was an early amano piece but it turns out it's just sorta convincing fanart!

PS, the earliest chocobo designs were quite a ways off from we get now.

Posted Image

Compared to Miyazaki's art for the Horseclaws, which were what the inspiration for the final design ended up being.

And even the horseclaws were based on the extinct Phorusrhacidae, Terror Birds, the Apex predators of the Miocene epoch.

nature is horrifying

All in all, the CCAF should be happy that so many of their robots look like birds, birds are fierce and smart and cool and ain't nobody gonna keep a bird down (because the bird can fly).
