But if I had my choice...Kit Fox or Dire Wolf. Kit Fox for the fast speed, LRMs and lasers...and the Dire Wolf...why the heck not?

Flamers, then. Lots and lots of Flamers. Firestarter ftw.

Mech: Raptor Omni loaded with a Plasma Rifle, 5 tons of ammunition and an ER Small Laser. Why roast when you can disintegrate.

For an actual Battlemech:
If I could get my hands on an Incubus, I'd take that (I know, TRO 3055, but being a Clan second line 'Mech it's probably been around longer than that.) Barring that, an HER-2M Hermes II (Mercury).
And if no 'Mech is available and I'm forced into Battle Armor:
What other battle armor is available in 3049 besides Elemental? I'd probably take Elemental anyway.

Flamer could be useful for setting fires to areas, disposing of bodies, cooking large animals for dinner in a single spray.... The mediums can be fantastic for picking off individual zombies, and the whole thing is of rugged Clan manufacturing. It's also so unreasonably fast that, should zombies attempt to cling to it, it could easily shake the rotting corpses off of it.

The crab lights up as the perfect mech for this situation. Completely ammunition-independant for when you need to clear rubble, buildings, or generally melt zombie hordes. It's quick as well, and the fact it's been around since the Star League attests to the integrity of the chassis. It has pseudo-hand claws, which are more than capable of grappling, yet are simpler and more reliable than standard multi-digit hands.
One thing that caught my eye is this though: "Its advanced communications gear monitors all radio and short-wave bands." A good comm suite is a must if you want to contact pockets of survivors.
Of course I'd want a few "aftermarket" additions - co-pilot seating, exterior webbing, an optional environmental-sealing package - but I believe this would be the best bet in any post-apocalyptic situation.

What stood out to me was the sealing in all locations. I believe all Mechs just have a sealed cockpit, so with all locations sealed I take that to mean the cockpit, two-man cabin, and cargo area.
