Anything without a flamer....because the only thing worse than a zombie is a flamin' zombie (until it burns to a crisp at least).

But if I had my choice...Kit Fox or Dire Wolf. Kit Fox for the fast speed, LRMs and lasers...and the Dire Wolf...why the heck not?

Nova or Supernova. Never have to worry about running out of ammo and if it's a big horde of them both can cut through them like a scythe.

I would take a Stalker, so I can tear apart hundreds of them at once with heavy rockets.

What's the easiest way to shoot them in the head with a shotgun? No 12gauge-equipped 'Mech? Shame.

Flamers, then. Lots and lots of Flamers. Firestarter ftw.

I'd go with the Executioner. But I wouldn't worry about using ammo or anything and just walk to wherever I need to be. Its just Zombies. now if they start merging to form Mecha-Zombie or something then I might think about it. Now if Zombies are piloting 'Mechs then...*Takes off sunglasses* Mother of God...

Rifleman IIC 7. Why? Two Heavy Large Lasers, two Plasma Cannons, a targeting computer, and jump jets for the cherry on top. You guys can keep your weak Firestarters, I'll take a mech that will reduce ravening zombie hordes to ash with a single shot.

Definitely a Behemoth. 100 tonnes, more armour protection than an atlas, deployable shock absorbing cowls over the arm mounted large pulse lasers, jump jets, a large cockpit (Just look at the scaling, that things massive), plenty of open flat space (I'm a fan of the MW4 probably noncanon variant, but even the original concept art has plenty of room to tie things down), and two gauss rifles for picking off enemy mechs from range. Sure repairs would be hard to find, but only an ***** would get in a fight with it in the first place. The two large pulse and the small pulse under the cockpit would mow down zombies, and with a star of elementals perched on top no zombies will be clambering about for long.

I'd have some fun in an Elemental. Rip and tear!

I like the elemental idea. All those big mechs are too efficient and would get boring fast. Fighting them in BA would be fun, up close and personal.

Theres one clear choice http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Piranha Version 2 or 3 would suit me fine, no ammo dependancy, hands and a top speed of 151, I can outrun anything I cant fight and I can get to a evac area as fast as anyone plus its from my people so I will get a discount!

Battle Armor: Salamander (Clan, in case there is an IS version I don't know about )
Mech: Raptor Omni loaded with a Plasma Rifle, 5 tons of ammunition and an ER Small Laser. Why roast when you can disintegrate.

That Marco is looking like a winner, I'll take two.

For an actual Battlemech:

If I could get my hands on an Incubus, I'd take that (I know, TRO 3055, but being a Clan second line 'Mech it's probably been around longer than that.) Barring that, an HER-2M Hermes II (Mercury).

And if no 'Mech is available and I'm forced into Battle Armor:

What other battle armor is available in 3049 besides Elemental? I'd probably take Elemental anyway.

Either Elemental or Cougar. Can't go wrong either way.

Atlas. Big enough to carry food and supplies for me...and big enough to stomp my way to the nearest space port. I won't be using any ammo. I don't intend to "walk the earth" destroying the 'walkers'. If the whole planet is infected...they can have it.

I think a FireMoth Delta would be sufficient. 5 ERMedium Lasers and a back up flamer, plus two fully functional hands (although the design is a tad awkward to use them for too much). Faster then pretty much anything else out there, though I would probably disable the MASC in fear of damaging the legs. Cannot risk that in a zombie apocalypse.

Flamer could be useful for setting fires to areas, disposing of bodies, cooking large animals for dinner in a single spray.... The mediums can be fantastic for picking off individual zombies, and the whole thing is of rugged Clan manufacturing. It's also so unreasonably fast that, should zombies attempt to cling to it, it could easily shake the rotting corpses off of it.

I initially thought battle armor (why take any more than necessary?) but I eventually though about the fact there isn't too much internal storage on armor. Plus, I don't think they manufacture backpacks to fit over SRM launchers. So, I moved on over to mechs.

The crab lights up as the perfect mech for this situation. Completely ammunition-independant for when you need to clear rubble, buildings, or generally melt zombie hordes. It's quick as well, and the fact it's been around since the Star League attests to the integrity of the chassis. It has pseudo-hand claws, which are more than capable of grappling, yet are simpler and more reliable than standard multi-digit hands.
One thing that caught my eye is this though: "Its advanced communications gear monitors all radio and short-wave bands." A good comm suite is a must if you want to contact pockets of survivors.
Of course I'd want a few "aftermarket" additions - co-pilot seating, exterior webbing, an optional environmental-sealing package - but I believe this would be the best bet in any post-apocalyptic situation.

The Marco has environmental sealing in all its locations to keep hazardous environments out. It has a collapsible two-man cabin mounted on its rear torso which can only be used when the 'Mech is stationary.

As for the environmental seal, pretty sure that's standard on all battlemechs.

What stood out to me was the sealing in all locations. I believe all Mechs just have a sealed cockpit, so with all locations sealed I take that to mean the cockpit, two-man cabin, and cargo area.
