3025 TRO details the cockpit space in an Atlas at length. So much so I think the First Prince has some command set up installed.
Of course you could just take a Banshee, downgrade its massive GM engine to Chevy Volt size and live in the Center Torso. Much better armored and not subject to random head hits.
(Watch for spontaneous fires though!!!)

As for Bryans request for a family style cockpit. As far as mechs go you're kinda SOL, the largest i think are the two seaters. That being side you could just get some sort of APC/Mobile HQ vehicles and strip out some of the equipment for cargo space. Just make sure you get one witha fusion engine so you don't have to worry about running out of fuel. Obviously, this is to be escorted by your mech

That back room looks spacious enough for one person to sleep in. Check that point off the list.
Next I'd be looking for a 'Mech with a missile pod, hand actuators, is a chicken-walker and at least a medium but preferably a heavy. I'd unload the missiles on the zombies crowding around the nearest mall, then ditch the launcher itself for a several ton capacity cargo bay. Weaponry would have to be pulse lasers as reliable ammo sources are the first casualties in any zombie revolution. I'd be happy with just small pulse lasers, enough of those could still burn a hole through concrete given time.
That leaves a few optimal choices, however the most impressive anti-zombocalypse mech has not yet been mentioned:
The LAR, Large Agricultural Robot. 160 tons of combine harvesting goodness. You just know that the backroom in that thing is gonna have a shower, wardrobe and king-sized bed. Give me a good night sleep with a hot shower and I'll mow down zombies at 9kph from dawn till dusk, laughing maniacally over the external speakers. I don't care if it takes me the next 7 months to make it to the starport, I'll be the Forrest Gump of the 3049 Zombie Plague.

From Sarna.net:
Armament & Features
The Marco has environmental sealing in all its locations to keep hazardous environments out. It has a collapsible two-man cabin mounted on its rear torso which can only be used when the 'Mech is stationary. It also has a small observation platform bridging across its shoulders. The 'Mech features a salvage arm in its left arm, a four-ton cargo bay located in its right torso, and a search light mounted in its center torso. For self-defense, the Marco has a Small Laser mounted in its right arm.
It also has a Fusion engine, most of the IndustrialMechs have I.C.E. or Fuel Cell engines. I would wish to have the small laser swapped out with a Flamer. It only goes 64km/h but with also having a enviromental seal I could park it meters below the water's surface so I wouldn't really worry that much about survivors or other mechs.

As for the environmental seal, pretty sure that's standard on all battlemechs.

But if I could choose, I think 20 tons of Firemoth going 140 kph through a horde of zombies would do the trick...
Edit: Or a Warhawk or Awesome, lots of PPCs.

Definently not the Assassin, but then that statement holds true in most situations.
Clan mechs wouldn't be a good choice either. IS mechs are almost always built with at least some idea of comfort in mind (or they at least have room to hold a minifridge). I also remember reading somewhere that IS mechs are usually built with a toilet integrated directly into the pilot's chair and connected to the reactor to get rid of "waste." Clan mechs apparently don't have that. Clanners just have to hold it.
I'd probably go with a Warhammer or just about any heavy or assault with enough room to install a duel cockpit.

There's a reason why I left out Clan mechs in the Light-Medium list I compiled a the start of the thread. Those cockpits are almost certainly going to be too cramped to live in, and there's no guarantee whether the zombies being faced don't have super-zombie variants, so you can't just live on the roof.
I'm wondering if a Command Console or Dual Cockpit mech could have its stuff removed to fit more living space in?
EDIT: Ack, and it so happens that I said pretty much the same thing as Jack without me reading it.
