I am genuinely glad that the top players are getting a better game but as a tier 2 player the experience is horrible.

Next to no one is pleased with the game at the moment and the scant few people who are are generally the people who either play one match a week and wouldn't be able to tell if the servers were on fire, or those who are in the occasional group that also plays super casually.

Changes aren't good for any tier really, they all have massive problems most of which have a single simple solution.

Changes have been good for FP. Would you wait 6 mins for a 4 minute match or 6 minutes for a 25 minute match? Choice seems obvious.

I absolutely would not wait for a 25 minute match to get roflstomped 48:1 by a 12 manner like some of the recent screenshots kicking around, but thanks for the offer.

FP still has it's skill minimum, that's for sure. Maybe I should have clarified it as a choice for people who can do well in either mode, FP now being a compelling, more gaming with less waiting, no-Nascar choice.

I disagree
I been seeing some legit T1 type games the likes of which I have not seen in a long time.
Forum T1's have stated in the forum they like.

I am liking the changes too, PSR will finally mean something again.
Only bad thing is the low population and the MM values open up a lot due to that , and the associated wait times.

People complaining about what Tier their in.
I don't really care about that and neither should others "Puts fingers in ears"
Its used for match making and seem to be working better now

Group win/loss bias is still their.
But its the world we live in... Groups are the meta

Just read that Paul will set new times to reduce waittimes for low pop tiers...don't know when and to what.

Funny that he only used 128 matches when he made the change before the weekend and had all weekend to choose from for data. Even if that's just T1 data it's pitiful for a weekend and if it's not just T1 then...good god.

I can see why they never give full data on anything they release- it's always charts with numbers cut off, charts that are "massaged" worse than crime stats in a dangerous city, and flat out obvious impossibilities.

Funny that the longest wait time is 6 and a half minutes which is outrageous but more outrageous when you consider these matches were on a weekend, which is primetime for any multiplayer game.

Funny how there was an average wait time but not a median and that average was 2 and a half minutes higher than wait times in off-prime weekdays under the solo system, but in primetime on a weekend.

The fact that he had all weekend worth of data and used 128 matches indicates that the data became worse the more matches that were added or worse there simply weren't enough matches to use as data points because the playerbase has fallen off a cliff.

I can see why they're hiding on a twitter account followed by 10 people instead of their own forums with that kind of output.

I have been watching T1 games where both teams rotate until one is dead with the only difference between their play and T3 play being that in T3 (back in the normal days) players would actually stop or reverse if one pointed out that their rotation was too fast and costing mechs, but in T1 players are too pro to have voice or written comms activated so they pull the two snakes eating each others tails until only one team is left.

T1 play is pathetic, wait times are pathetic, and it's hard AF to drop rank while not breaking TOS or actively hindering one's team.

I want to head back to T3 where i might see variety in a match despite all the other BS yet i still can scarcely drop rank in a match except in my stock Firestarter Ember.

PGI was never strongly present in the forum from the start...or at least I can't remember a time where they where strongly present here compared to twitter.

It allways feelt like the forums are something they had to provide but no interest in at all, even less interacting with people.
Part of the reason for that migth also be the community. People seam to be very salty...not just here. In general whining in all game forums has increased over the years in a way I don't get. I mean there is critic and there is salt. Critic is good and usefull...salt....

As for the 128 sets of data. If only 128 matches where played that would be indeed a bit low for a weekend but the number is so specific that I think its the "usual" number of matches that are looked at when it comes to "last matches played".

Limited tactics is actualy something quite common with higher play. The number of tactics used or valid tactics decreases and also the necessity to use MetaBuilds aka less diversity in what you can use is normal with higher play.
You want diversity...get bad and join the club where people keep experimenting. The higher you go the less choices you have because doing anything else then meta or what is commonly acepted gets you killed, booed out or otherwise out of the high level.

You can see that with WoWs too. The higher Tier you go the less interesting matches get. Most people use the same tactics and same ships. Low Tier matches is where the fun is.

Man, they loosened Matchmaker up so that tier 1 games are now bringing in tier 3 players after just 1 minute of searching. The difference between how it was yesterday and today is really noticeable. Match quality has nosedived.

Also it seems like people in my games are a lot angrier today, but maybe I just got unlucky.

Honestly the maps aren't the problem in map stagnation- it's the playerbase pushing out any form of contribution that isn't purely direct damage based mixed with an exodus of mic-using, drop calling players.
Can't know where to flank if there are no lights scouting, can't have lights scouting if the massive power creep leads to normalized 60+ alphas insta-gibbing the now ridiculously huge models, why bring a medium if you can bring a heavy and why bring a heavy if you can bring an assault sort of play.

It's also the lack of respawns that prevents scouting with lights.
Why risiking your only Mech in the match to looking for enemys?

Funny story, I played a few drops in which there was a competitive level group on my team recently and noted that one of the major differences was that in having a full lance of folk who were willing to listen they consistently used the main force as a pinning agent then flanked in from the side or rear causing the enemy team to either panic and split engage, or turn and drop to low rear armor in moments.

Then i thought back to the days when quite a few people had mics, lights were numerous and ran in wolfpacks as a standard, and sighed a little inside.

And that's the reason why Premades must kept away from Solo queue.

PGI has 2 possible ways:
Improving the tools for coordination (persistent teams, VOIP, LFG, Lance Leader, Commander,...) and focus on better teamplay.
OR
Focus on Solo Gameplay: keep Groups out of Solo Queue and make it more fun for competetive players who enjoy grinding up tiers.

I am taking a long break this is not an enjoyable experience anymore. I will keep track of the forums and streamers like Brios who give analysis but I won't be playing for a few weeks.

When people had an event they did for fun and that event is ruined for no reason, not even profit, they tend to vent that frustration in less than mature and less than positive ways.

That said, i'm probably going to end up banned myself before all is said and done- i'm legitimately disgusted at how this game, which is the only multiplayer version of a franchise i enjoy, is run into the dirt for no reason and no benefit to anyone, not even the company.

If this were making extra money id get that, but that's not even the case this is insanity.

Yes, all is well. Games are great. People are here expressing vast amounts of frustration for no reason. We all love being angry instead of enjoying the close, usually supportive, usually friendly community that this has always been. If this continues, pretty soon the "meaningful PSR" you mentioned will only be meaningful to yourself and about 17 other people.

Apologies for the sarcasm and tone, but this is an 8 year old game. People have invested hundreds and thousands of dollars into their game experience. It is not ok for huge swaths of the population to have their game experience completely changed or outright sacrificed in order for a very small minority of people to have "better" games. I'm glad you're having fun, but our reason for existing is not just to provide a player population to ensure others get good games. Our expectation is to enjoy this experience too.

https://imgur.com/a/a9tc7HA basically sums it up for me.

I think the fact that so much of the player population is rolling up their sleeves to try to help "fix" the game is admirable. There are some amazing folks in this community and i am really grateful that everyone is interested in making the experience as great as possible. we all know how amazing of a game this can be when things are working. we all know that it has so much potential.

but this, what we have today, is just not acceptable. the player behaviors i see in game are selfish and dysfunctional. the metrics used to evaluate our performance as individuals are flawed and failing. the matchmaker is not able to create balanced games, and i'm not sure its able to accommodate the sudden change in both player behavior and presence of groups.

in the end, we must remember that we are customers. the game is a product. we do not own the product, all we can do is express dissatisfaction and trust that the people who own the product take our feedback seriously and make changes. i will come back to the game when there have been sufficient changes, as i'm sure many others will.
