Discord exists as a chat room and is by nature transient. This means that anything said must be said with the intended recipient present to be heard. Sure they could theoretically scroll back but that requires effort and the chances of finding a relevant comment is like a needle in a hay stack given the subject matter can change by the hour.

There is also a compounding issue.

MWO doesn't have an official discord (at least not one that's advertised). So whose discord do they follow? I doubt they were randomly channel hopping, someone must have told them and they accepted the invite. Enter the age old conspiracy of only catering to a secret cabal of eSpurters and their compatriots.


Basically, unless you happen to be on the right discord, at the right time and associated with the cabal your chances of being heard are slim to none.

Message boards are typically organised, categorised and with subforums and threads pertaining to specific subjects.

FORUMS -> MECHWARRIOR UNIVERSE -> GENERAL DISCUSSION -> Individual threads

If you took every thread in general discussion and made it into one single thread you'd have discord.


Discord only works for generalised discussions with a small population, or specific discussions with a focused group. Anything else becomes a shouting match.

"Chat rooms" are how discussion happens. Messageboards are not very good for it.

"Chat rooms" like discord also keep all their chats logged and visible.

"Chat rooms" like discord have multiple channels which are used to cover a wide variety of topics, that can be subdivided any number of ways.

"Secret cabal chat rooms" are open and free for all to enter and join. Always have been. https://discord.gg/6wxM5hC
