It's about friends not really groups, in my experience, groups are generally trying to recruit unaffiliated people already in the population than bringing in friends. That said games need to fix the issues that initially chased people off to grow like No Man's Sky and Warframe managed to do, this game has failed to do that.

A group of friends playing the same is a player group, isn't it?

One of the issues of MWO was the lack of balancing for small groups.
Faction Play or even Group Quickplay was great if you had a big group of 12 or more regular players, but most groups don't reach that numbers.

Again, this is mostly because of the low population. That said they could probably force full groups into separate queues but idk. I don't know that this is as big of an issue in other games, but that is probably because of how big of match sizes this game has. 12v12 has been dumb from the beginning, 8v8 always had a much better pace, but I'd also take 6v6.

Problem ...many Unit Names you not can use by PGIs Codes of Conduct

You can get around this as long as you can give a name that deviates from canon, examples:
Nova Cat Exiles
Wolf's Dragoons of North America
Jerrid's Northwind Highlanders
Lyran Guards International

yes ,and each file must watch by a Guy from PGI or you must create a automatic Filterfunction ...thats a Lot work, when the Forum from MWO not find big interest by PGI

In this thread, lets discuss ideas for updating or adding to our current monetization model in MechWarrior Online, such as:
  • New Player Packs
  • Starter Packs (Brawling, Long Range, Heavy)
  • Themed Packs (Pop Culture, NASCAR)
  • New Items (Metallic Patterns, Custom UI Colors, Voice Packs, Sound Packs, Laser Color Customization, MechLab Customization, Global Patterns)
  • Improve Cockpit Item Bonuses (added value)

TL;DR: Next to none of these suggestions are new. Consider selling actual map packs.

Ok, so I've not been playing MWO for about 4 years now. Basically since the desync of Gauss and PPC and the laser nerfs. But I feel like I have to say something about this anyway, as I hope MWO will be around longer. Also I don't have the time to read through all 10 pages of posts, so my idea might also have been suggested beforehand.

Topic: Most of these are not new ways of monetization. I have wrapped my head around this for a while, basically since i heared PGI is thinking about picking MWO back up. A lot of games out there sold map packs in the past and I think there would be an easy way to do that aswell in MWO. However, the maps have to be worth it.

How could that be implemented? Relativly easy through the voting screen (so don't drop that lightheartedly like disucssed somewhere before). Just as currently implemented there should be a random choice of maps available. In order to vote for a map pack map you have to buy the pack. Everyone else either has to spend like 1 MC to vote or just can't vote for it at all. If the map pack map wins the vote, it will be played by everyone in that match even for people that don't own the map pack.

That would finally be something new to spend money on aside of mechs and junk to place in my face.. Oh and laser colour costumization is a terrible idea! Proper PGI-Supported sound packs on the other hand are a great idea.

Selling map packs is one of the stupidest ideas and thank god games stopped doing that. There is a reason games in the past stopped doing it and it was because it segmented player bases between those who paid and those who didn't which bad ESPECIALLY in a dead game like this. With your implementation, the map pack person also gets a vote when the other can't without real money, that is just....beyond dumb.

Well, then maybe you should have read my post more carefully to see how you do not segment players.

So your counter point is not having a point. Nice. Because everything you said in the posts that referred to me was wrong. Why would someone without the map pack not be able to vote? That person would just not be able to vote for a map pack map. He either abstains or votes for something else. Nothing changes.

I'm sorry I don't feel the need to retread what you should reasonably be able to find?

I like how your opinion is the only valid thing in your world. Really a differenciated view. You should rethink the way you see the world good Sir. I still have not seen any valid point in your confused little posts aside of "I don't wanna, just because".

All I can say is, that personally I would not be willing to buy anything else in this game anymore. The core gameplay is good, I have all the mechs I want and what I dislike won't be changed by the new discussion: Waiting times between fights. You wait for a match you walk around (basically waiting) and then you wait for the end or a new match. 70% of the game is waiting and that won't change without drastic gamemode changes.

The ONLY thing of value to me would be new maps. And my suggestion is the only way I see to fund these.

How about because locking people out of map voting if you haven't paid money is a stupid idea? The problem also only get's worse as "map pack" maps become more common with each pack and increase their chance of turning up. Your opinion is valid, it is just not very well thought out.

Its quite well thought out. As i pointed out before noone is locked out of the voting itself. All they are locked out of is one of the options.
I'm not sure of how much this is thought to be a discussion thread so I will stop replying to your posts.

That's still bad. It means those who paid money won't see it often because unless other people paid the same money or it will require a high multiplier to be selected . As more come out it complicates things even more since you could potentially see an entire vote without any of the "free" maps or the new maps just won't have the same frequency. This is all why modern games don't sell maps, it causes all sorts of headache for a low return on investment anyway. This is why cosmetics are sold, because they don't cause segmentation and they have a much higher RoI. This is also why PGI screwed up with selling mechs, because they built themselves a revenue stream that was never going to be able to be maintained for similar reasons and the saddest part is this was their main revenue stream.

Sounds like that idea would result in new maps being played the least because fewer people could vote for them. As a F2P game I think it's also likely that most players would not buy a map pack, meaning very few players would be able to vote for the map, meaning they might hardly see any play. So a lose lose for everyone basically.

-make very good Classic Warhorns like the Bagpipe (great for a Banockburn GDL Rifleman or Northwind Highlanders) avaible for MCs

-Decals with classic Schottish/Cavalry/mythologic Themes for Units like the Eridani Lighthorses, McCarrons Cavalry

-Noseart, please good looking Maids in the style of the "Girl in Pink/red Dress" most other "Maids" more terrible (a Fine Scotch Girl in Kilt with Bagpipe for Example or a female Mechpilot rides a Missle)

(thats only "make it in 5 Minutes" Ideas for)

MWO is the first Mechwarrior game with 12 vs 12 matches, and thats due the lore of 12 Mech lances.

Quote

12v12 has been dumb from the beginning, 8v8 always had a much better pace, but I'd also take 6v6.

IMHO it depends on the style of game PGI & the player wants:

Close combat on small maps without respawn and fast matches ?
Solaris
1 vs 1
2 vs 2

Small/middle/large maps without respawn and fast matches ?
Domination , Assault (1 base, 1 team attacking, 1 team defending), Escort (Convoy of Trucks instead of VIP mech, more matchscore if capturing the trucks instead of killing them)
4 vs 4
8 vs 8

longer matches with dropdecks & respawns?
Incursion (1, base 1 team attacking, 1 team defending), Conquest, Domination, Siege
12 vs 12
16 vs 16

PGI started with 8 vs 8 Quickplay:
  • without respawns (the famous "Dropship mode")
  • without working multiplayer lobby to group up
  • without faction pure teams
It was basically 8 vs 8 team deathmatch only, and now it's 12 vs 12 team deathmatch only.

And that's the problem.
Then Faction play came around many of the players who wanted stuff like respawns & faction pure teams have left the game already.
Most of the players stayed with Solo & Group Quickplay and ithe team deathmatch gameplay.

The thing is that PGIs quickplay is a horrible design for team deathmatch.
  • Disolving the teams after each match prevents team building. No on care about their "team mates" if they only play one match with them.
  • No respawns promotes a "no risk" gameplay. Don't risk your Mech, use your team a shield if needed, let slower Mechs behind. Last Mech standing makes the kills.
  • Leaving ASAP after death to spawn in a new match with a new Mech makes it even worse, because loosing your only Mech isn't much of a thing, yeah, it may hurt your team, but those 11 random players don't matter after your are left the game, so why care about them?
The group function design of PGI was also terrible.

At the start 8 player premades have been put against mixed teams of smaller premades and solo players, and those mixed teams have been stomped.
Instead of limiting the group size to 4 (same as a Lance) PGI split the player base between Solo & Group.
In Group Queue 8 and later 12 player premades have been put against mixed teams of smaller premades.
Balancing by tonnage didn't work in group play, instead it forced bigger group with lower tonnage to use wolfpack tactics to overrun the enemy team.
The unlimited group size also lead to things like incompatible groups (11 players) or hard to match groups (10+2, 9+3). Group sizes from 2 - 12 players also prevented any kind of matchmaking by group tier.

Group players used the Solo Queue too: it was the place to grind XP & farm events. That was fastern than in group, because you could left the match ASAP after death to grind / farm in the next match with a new mech.

And that was the most stupid design idea:

IMHO best way of a future monetization:

Remove Groups from Quickplay, remove Solaris, remove Faction play from MWO.
Claim a monthly fee from the remaining Players to keep the server running.

Port MWO to the new X-Box
Sell Clan & IS DLCs for Mechwarrior 5
Reboot MWO as Multiplayermodes in Mechwarrior 5, sell starter Packs with Mechs for Multiplayer and cosmetics by microtransactions.
Make it Solaris & Faction Play only.
