Long story short: Warhammer IIC 4 PPCs 16 double heatsinks. Round just started, did some poking here and there with PPCs. Mech is at 100%, not even a scratch and my heat is around the 65/70s. A light mech comes into view and i see that 2 PPC shots will core him, so i decide to just take the overheat damage and go with it. I kill the light and overheat, nothing weird there. Then i notice my heat is not dissipating at all. I stand there and watch as my mech melts from 100% to 0%

Inb4 "PGI doesn't read forums nor care". I know. I just wanted to vent. Wish my mech could do the same.

K, thx

Greetings!

Well, you can't say that the bug is back, because, to be honest, the bug has never left. Posted Image

Err... what is the Heat Not Dissipating Bug, and how is it triggered?

(Sorry, new around here...)

No worries.

There's a bug where mechs will suddenly stop dissipating heat at the normal rate and instead do so very slowly. It practically cripples high-heat builds but in some cases even firing a single AC2 can cause you to overheat. It's normally spotted after an alpha strike as you're expecting to cool down but don't. Nobody knows what triggers it exactly.

Conversely there is also a heat-dissipating bug where your mech dissipates heat much much faster, if that happens to you, well, firing high-heat weapons without heat-issues makes you much more deadly. But people don't tend to complain when they get hit with that variant.

It is a bug that slows down the heat dissipation of your 'Mech to about 1/10 of the normal rate without any warning.

Essentially, imagine that you are in the battle. You are firing your weapons and your heat bar is gradually filling up, but you know that once you stop firing your weapons, your 'Mech's heat will diminish gradually.

Except, that it will not. Depending on the exact moment when you let the trigger go, the heat stays where it is. In many situations, on some 90 or 95%.The heat simply does not dissipates, not even when standing still. And you are waiting and waiting and waiting ... The heat bar goes down about one notch per 10 seconds or so.

There is absolutely nothing what you can do.

Sometimes you are the only player affected, but I had a comical game where all 24 players were affected. In such case you can expect many heat-induced suicides on both sides - both friendly and enemy 'Mechs exceeding their heat thresholds before their pilots realize what is happening.

And that, my friend, is the heat bug.

It uses to happen often on my HBK-4G when firing a U-AC/20 -- oddly enough, on Grim Plexus whether causative or coincidence due to map frequency. (Haven't dropped in the 'Mech there in a while and haven't seen it lately.)

When there's something broke in the game and has been for a long, long time with nobody addressing it, we call it a "feature."

MW:O has lots of features, this is just one of them.

When it comes to PGI and MWO, sometimes it is difficult to be sure if you are seeing a bug or a feature. Posted Image

Ran into this bug today. Barely scratched and after my initial salvo, my heat just stayed around 75-80% and I had to wait, not move, not shoot for several seconds before it even minutely went down a little.

Suffice it to say, in nearly any build this is crippling. Died from overheating.

Ah yes, like PPC bolts and AC20 shells flying through mechs now and then without doing anything

The only thing that can save you is cool shot. If it was solved every mech who shuts down without overriding is given a permanent 25% heat drop. All mechs who are shut down takes critical damage. That's why many uses override because critical damage overweight structural damage from overheating.

The mechs doesn't shut down when overheating in mwo. That's why when you fire a shot who overheat you end up back online without the need of powering the mech on.There are skill nodes for power on. It's an awkward situation that you have to manually power off a mech when overheating. That's why overriding is basically the same as overheating except that you can fire and move instead of being stuck with no guns and you have access to power off the mech but having the engine off doesn't seem to protect the engine. When you get the bug a power off won't save you.

You know it's really bad when several teammates and enemies kill themselves with override

This happened to me last month in my 4G using an AC20 while I was only firing that. I couldn't find a flamer mech attacking and I thought it was a map hot spot.

I had this today.

Incursion match begin.

See enemy mechs in distance.

Enemy incubus in 1000-1200m

Shooting with 2 err ppc, hit.
Shooting with 2 err ppc, another hit. I saw, I destroyed some component in incubus.

My heat stopped, I wasnt able to shoot.

Well, restart didnt helped.

Next match.

THE SAME!

Shoot enemy Tor, after the second hit all was over.
