If you see a mech with weak arms, then you can intentionally aim for the aims instead of the center mass if you want to farm components.
Usually weapons with a high upfront punch tend to be better at component farming than continuous firing ones.

Something like the 2xLBX20 + 4 SRM6 Scorch will churn through components pretty quick.

Q1: So is destroying a component = destroying an arm, a leg, or a side torso?
Q2: So is destroying a component *not* equal to destroying enemy's heat sink, enemy's AMS, etc.?

for greater component destruction!

Component destruction is my least favorite event mechanic and making me do 100 of it is a real downer to the event. They can literally remove every single mechanic in the event and just put 100 component destruction and it wouldn't change the amount of time I'd have to play to get it.

That's why I dislike events that require too many components destroyed. To me, these are the "Shoot your enemy everywhere except the spot required to kill him" events.

A component is an Arm, Leg, Side Torso, Center Torso or Head.
Yes, that means killing a mech will reward you at least one component destruction. Destroying a Side Torso with the corresponing Arm still intact will account for both Components.

ATM-12 shreds through armour really quickly. One alpha for red structure, another one for atleast 1 component.
Other than that, any pinpoint weapon. I would say lasers are better suited for it. You can poke behind cover and dont have to stare down the enemy.

Ay, even though Mech Walesa hates me for doing so sometimes: pick an lbx-heavy (10s or 20s min) and play VERY patient. The longer the match takes, the more likely your LBX-builds crit-potential will score big time. If your aim is somewhat okay, high alpha-builds work too though.

So I've been playing for over half a year, thinking that "destroy component" need to be destroyed heat sink, AMS, etc.
Now I understand, destroy component is is an Arm, Leg, Side Torso, Center Torso or Head. Many thanks!

How many are you getting per game? 4-5 is a solid number, if you're specifically hunting components don't expect to regular get more than 10-12. My personal record is 23.
As for how to hunt components, a few tips:
- Paper doll / Targeting info
- Weapons/Equipment
- Mechs
- Playstyle
DO NOT HIDE AT THE BACK WAITING FOR YOUR TEAM TO SOFTEN THEM UP! Hiding at the back leaves your team a mech down, the less mechs you have fighting the faster the enemy can kill the ones that are. Losing teams score less components than winning ones.
As for specific builds:
Anything with a big alpha is good but sustained DPS also does the job, an 2xLBX20 + 4 SRM6 Scorch can rip though enemy components with sheer damage but a Quad LBX-2 Jager can also chew through components and switch targets faster (it has the range to engage on sight). Poke builds are the least effective, if you don't destroy the component it'll be weakened and whilst you're hiding and cooling that leaves time and opportunity for someone else to take it (remember, there are other players on your team hunting components).
Personally I use the dual LBX-20 MDD-C, it's got enough speed to get in range and enough armour that it can go 1v1 against almost anything. The trick is to charge the enemy, you'll take a few hits but you've rocking +90 points of armour quirks and once they hit their heat cap it's an easy win since you're running cool. Try not to twist to much, as all your weapons are in your arms, instead wiggle your nose on the approach so the damage is spread between the CT/STs.
