The Speed Of Light Event - 2 Free Mechs In June

Modest CBills requirements for medium mech, 5 missile hardpoints, and quirks for Missile Cooldown, Missile Heat, and Missile Velocity
(The IS Hero mech Dervish Frenzy DV-FR with 8 missile hardpoints works very well too, but not everyone has it yet).

The SRM part is easily done with the right Mechs.
IS: BSW-P1: https://mech.nav-alp...a15cdc3c_BSW-P1
Clan: HMN-PA: https://mech.nav-alp...d9acaa5c_HMN-PA (or you use 6 SRM6 if you do not own the Huntsman - which you should).
The Huntsman can even alpha all eight SRM 6 - if you have the heat reduction nodes activated. 98% heat, almost 100 damage points at point blank range...even the splash does not matter.
Bring a coolshot, though, so you can keep firing.

All three of those are very common Scouting builds for Faction Warfare so every MWO player should have those three or at least one of them in their inventory anyway!

Honestly, the challenge requirement is just a 1000 points of SRM damage (IS/Clan). Even when having SRMs as a secondary weapon on a 'Mech, that 1000 DMG is going to accumulate in the course of 30 days. No special 'Mech is really needed.

I didn't claim them on the forums. And the weird part is that some rewards work and some do not, and there is no apparent pattern to what works or doesn't.

I did the Clan one in like 2 hours or less (didn't time it) with only 2 SRM6's on a Vapor Eagle as backups for my ERPPCs. The lack of Artemis is a bit annoying but it's not a large obstacle.

Pretty much.
People behave like they have to complete the challenge in 24 hours and not in 30 days.
Who has got a dedicated SRM/AC/ER PPC boat - good.
Who has not got a dedicated SRM/AC/ER PPC boat - there is no problem, since in 30 days one can always run a 'Mech with some SRMs, ACs, ER PPCs, just fromthe time to time..

I think the C would have been a better choice, but I would be equally (if not more) happy if we saw the E get a set bonus buff.
There are a plethora of ways you could go about it, and considering that you must give up on ecm for the bonus, it would be hard to overdo it. To the variant's benefit, it does have the highest number of base hardpoints, however, the hardpoints aren't very flexible with how they can be used, as you can't fit more than one large lazer or non-mg ballistic.
To start, the set-bonus needs at least a decent bonus to accel/decel like many of the other sets get (perhaps 10%)
It would also be quite reasonable to make the 5% range quirk apply to all weapons, or at least all energy based weapons.
(If you wanted to promote Mpls still, you could add a small mpl cooldown quirk on top of it)
I also think it should also get +10 armor to the arms, same as the other arm based sets get. (loaded into the set, instead of the arms themselves however, for obvious reasons)

The players are going to design their own loadouts anyway, using all OmniPods available to them. Usualy the default loadout is not too important.

I can see why you might complain if you were a beginner with a small mech collection though.

Yeah, it's just a bit disappointing to anyone that already owns an arctic cheetah. The variant doesn't even attempt to make you consider keeping the set. Even if all the other sets are still bad, you can at least try and do something a little different with them.

IS SRM4 is great on an Assassin or Dervish etc. Wouldn't take long at all.
Just use trial mechs if you are new-ish.. Enjoy the challenge and the free stuff!

I did at least 1000 DMG, and when I checked it, I only saw 0/1000.
If even a Tier 1 player with over 3500 comments on the forums was confused by this, then how likely is it for a new or casual player to make the same mistake? And a new or casual player is more likely to just think this is a 'bug' and get frustrated than bother to find out why their damage isn't counting towards the event. We're in the middle of having a bunch of new players join due to MW5 and with our current player population we really can't afford to lose them.
Just a single sentence under the 'Guiding Light' and 'Light the Way' challenges would fix this. Just say that Artemis will not count towards the challenge. Better yet, also point out that the trial mechs have these launchers already equipped (because while PGI always makes specific weapon challenges use weapons that are on trial mechs, new players won't know that).
This is a fantastic event with very generous rewards, but it could actually lead to less of the people joining due to the MW5 bump actually sticking around than otherwise would. People who are into the game enough to use the forums will figure out the Artemis thing without much difficulty, but that's not the case for new and more casual players. New players who think that PGI can't even create an event without it being 'bugged' aren't likely to stick around.
