I'm seeing this regularly on here and in game? I do not see how lights are bad to play they are like miniature gods among mechs? super speed, super damage, un hit able! always the last to die.. off over in some forgotten corner of the map for no apparent reason..

If anything is bad to play its the medium class, they have seriously been forsaken by PGI...

Is this some kind of light pilot indoctrination thing going on to keep their ultimate power by saying "its the worst class in the game" to everyone in hopes they never get nerfed..

It sure seems like it.

"Lights" include things like the ballistic Panther, the Spiders, the Cougars (oh the poor Cougars) the 4 variants of Locust NO ONE plays anymore, the 6 of 7 Osiris you have never seen in a match, the Jenners. "Lights" that are potentially problematic are approximately 4 in number. A couple of Piranhas and Fleas and that's about it. This coming from a guy who was owned twice tonight by someone in an Arctic Cheetah. "Lights" are by the number the worst mechs in the game.

They have the lowest win rate, match score, and damage.

So they're literally bad at everything.

As of the last Jarl's update, mediums are currently outperforming heavies, and of course assaults remain the best performing class.

Note for readers: this is the third? Fourth? Higher? Thread MechaGnome has either started or hijacked to complain about light 'Mechs being LITERALLY WORSE THAN [GODWIN'S LAW]. Apparently each and every 'mech of thirty-five tons and below is an absolute menace to society, a terror upon the battlefield and an active cheater, up to and including stock UrbanMechs.

There is no convincing MG that their self-admitted consistent 300+ ping is the issue. Or their aim. Or their paralyzing, will-destroying fear of light 'Mechs. Or anything else. Nay - it is solely the fact that light 'Mechs are actively bending the laws of causality and spacetime with their mythical Qi powers, Stand abilities, and teleportation jutsu.

Keep this in mind when responding.

Most people never get over the moderate skill ceiling required to start doing well in Lights. Instead they make a mess of piloting one, give up, and go back to another class. Hence, Lights have such apparently poor stats across the playerbase. They're actually quite good once you learn them.

Light mechs are an invisible hand on game outcome, but the flip side is that stacking assaults is a visible hand on game outcome and results speak for themselves.

I think if lights were as terrifying as MG would have you believe, you’d see more of them. When I log in, I see about 8 to 12 percent of players in them. A light played wrong is just toast. A light other than the most meta of metas is toast. So the few people who thrive with them are the only ones to consistently play them.

Heck, when I play a light, at the end of the match I am often frowning and saying to myself “ sh**, that was a lot of effing work for only 300 damage!”

This couldn't be further from the truth. The low W/L ratio is most likely being attributed to new players not knowing how to play the weight class. As much as I get frustrated playing light mechs, I think they should stay the way they are but there are some exceptions of mechs that really need help like the Osiris and Incubus IE.

Yes lights are over powered but that's what pgi wants. They want all mechs to be equal. So you have assault level light mechs.

Those are facts straight off the leaderboard. Globally lights have a slightly better than 0.9 WLR this year, unless your supposition is only new players are playing lights.

I would guess most new players play lights and mediums because of the lower cost to get into the mechs. I started out in a spider because of this.

Well if lights have bad WLRs because the noobs play them, then what does that say about assaults having the best WLRs?

It's a psyche problem.

You get beat up by a mech the same weight class as you? Or heavier than you? No problem, there's no sting of shame attached.

Lose to a mech half your weight? The ego suddenly scrambles to find ways to explain it and make excuses.

Hey it happens. Accept it, congratulate the light mech driver on outplaying you, relish the challenge, and strive to get better.

You've got it in one. Certain people, naming no names but we all know who, seem to have an awful lot of trouble with this last part.

Most lights are suffering a bit right now though, hopefully the quirks pass will enliven them,

Nothing, because new players playing mainly lights is a thing that guy made up

maybe actually playing some lights would put them into perspective to you.. just saying. if they're gods amongst mechs you should do really great in them, no? ;)

Warrior, it sounds like you have a defective mech! Did you know the average light only survives an average of 5 seconds against an assault mech? Act now! If you upgrade the pilot module on your mech, you'll get a discount of 50% if you call 1-800-MORE-PEW, that's 1-800-MORE-PEW today!

Lights are totally broken OP. They can deal 30 damage with lasers and move at over 100KPH while tanking two shots sometimes. Please buff Streaks ASAP

And my lowly 30 pinpoint from a Marauder 3R with twin PPC, twin AC/5 takes them down in horrifyingly short order. Just gotta wait for the shot.

It's more accurate to say that about 4 light mechs are OP broken. The rest need buffs.

[Blank] was exercising Internet Sarcasm, ScrapIron. But yeah. It's funny how you can trigger an instant feeding frenzy just by taking a leg off a light 'Mech. Everyone smells blood and they descend with a savegery on the hapless little sucker.Hell, even just stripping the armor and calling "Target [X], ['Mech name], soft leg" will often be enough to turn people from terrified sheep fleeing the horrible little Ohh Pee bugger into hungry wolves prowling for an easy snack.
