I'm going to have to ask for some specifics on this.

Step 1: Equip SSRM24+, BAP/CAP, TAG.
Step 2: Achieve lock.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: There is no profit. Instead, come back to the forums in time for the next "I can't aim so please nerf everything small and fast" crying thread.

e: Personally I like a MDD for this, since you get enough tonnage for some variant of cSL in the arms with your TAG.

Basically anything with more than like 24 ssrm tubes. HMN with 6x6 for example. 40-60 damage to a mech with a very low amount of HP is quite brutal.

My dude, I've got plenty of time in cockpit of a Streak36 Mad Dog. Granted, I can't recall the last time anyone in a Piranha decided to mess with me while in that. The myth of Streaks being insta-kills against lights is strong, they tend to steer clear of ya' when you're in something like that. Which is funny, because I recall once facetanking a StreakDog in an Urbie and getting the kill on him. (Granted, Urbies have toughness quirks like nobody's business.)

Now, from the front, a StreakDog against a fresh Piranha is going to do some serious damage, but isn't likely to remove any limbs. Armor and quirks alone, no survival tree, puts the arms at 12 armor and 10 structure, the legs at 16 and 12. From the side, which will cause the missiles to cluster up as they attempt to track hit locations, that's gonna tear an arm off, probably do serious damage to the side torso, and it's kind of a coin flip if it manages to take off a leg.

If the Piranha is already sporting anything that even vaguely resembles significant damage, yes, a StreakDog will eat it for lunch.

Like I said, you're underestimating the toughness of your light, and overestimating how dangerous Streaks are.

Problem with streaks is that it's a losing move to equip them in quickplay. There are relatively few lights in the matches and streaks suck against everything else, so you are nerfing yourself just to defend against a relatively rare situation that could also be handled with most other weapons.

It's much better to just practice killing them with weapons that are also good against heavier mechs.

FWIW I will usually dip out of a situation in any of my lights except for my stealth PB whenever I see a true stacked to the gills streakboat in play. I almost never get punished by them because I do play more cautiously when they're just sitting there lurking, because I know that if someone is stacking SSRMs then they probably did it primarily to target lights. Even if they don't immediately kill me, they may do enough damage to me that the next guy that I want to hard engage with may be able to finish the job instead of me coming out on top relatively cleanly.

I'll totally abuse them if I have a safe corner I can dip behind when they fire though. They generally aren't scary unless I'm in a situation where I'm standing out in the open and/or circling an enemy mech to solo kill them as a light.

Streaks are a way of saying you're out to mess with any lights that show up. Even if they're not better than lasers (and I do not think that they are), light pilots aren't usually going to want to stay in any situation where someone is actively hunting them. The lights can't tank damage but can just leave.

This is, as everyone knows, in accordance with the tenets of Communism.

Standing still for seismic to work is more dangerous than piranha IMO.

Hence the reason I equip it on Non-light mechs. Any mech that relies on speed for life is dead meat if it stops moving, but as GoodTry pointed out, even a short pause in walking from a direction change, corner peek or hill hump will turn on seismic for a second.

If you’re already getting radar deprivaton, which you should, seismic is an easy few skill modes that gives you a useful tool you otherwise don’t have at all.

You'd be surprised how often larger 'Mechs stand still. "Standing Stil" basically means you're not moving forward or backwards, not that your 'Mech is completely stationary. Every time you reverse direction there's a period of standing still, and people reverse directions a lot in this game. Not to mention all those times even smaller 'Mechs are posted up behind cover without moving, assessing what they're seeing before engaging.

And really - Seismic only has to work once in a match to be worth its investment. If you can turn even a single encounter with a Doomfish from "Fish shoots your butt and takes away half your structure" to "Fish turns the corner and walks gills-first into a laser fusillade", Seismic has done its work and merited its investment.

Bloody hell, this thread got out of hand fast.

At the end of the day, regardless of lore, or how things should be - the reason why people die so easily to lights is because people absoloutely refuse to respect, or accept, what they're capable of. Treat Piranhas and similar mechs like the enemy combatant that they are, not a "mere light mech that has no chance against an assault" that inevitably unloads into your rear leading you to moan on the forums.

Just. Shoot. The. Smegging. Fish.

Jus' sayin'. It's not the Doomfish you need'a worry about. Meth Lynx says:

EDIT: And just because I gotta brag somewhere...it took me nine bloody years of playing this game, but I finally ******* did it. In a Meth Lynx of all things, with less than 30% integrity left and completely bumfudge out of machine gun ammo.

The match was memorable as hell, too. Came down to me at ~40% integrity, a half-busted TBR< and a fresh King Krab that hadn't bothered to get into the fight against an enemy HML/flamers Arctic Cheetah in Forest Colony Classic. Cheetah was doing Cheetah things, playing keepaway in and around the tunnel and the hills.

I hit my comms and say "Nuts to this. You two, follow me to the water. He can't ambush us in a wide-open stretch of lake; either he comes top us where we can see him and shoot him, or we out-patience him and time him out." Amazingly, the other two actually did it and followed me. Took up station near the rock spire and just waited. Sho 'nuff, Cheetah came out to say hi and was gunning for me specifically. Ran out of MG ammo trying to take him down, and he squirreled back to the hills and very nearly succeeded in baiting the TBR pilot into the hills to play grab-a$%. Managed to bark enough orders to get him back though, and left the ACH no choice but to come in and engage again. Saw him coming in the nick of time thanks to the Seismic nodes on my MLX, and turned to face him.

We both jump, we both shoot the other's leg off in midair. We come down with the Cheetah behind the spire, TBR and KCG moving around to try and get an angle. I've got one, and I'm boost-hopping like I'm playing Armored Core again to throw off the Cheetah's aim since my leg is gone and I can barely move. Raking my lasers across his other leg, desperately fishing for the second leg before he gets mine...then a bunch of laser fire from the TBR saws half the ACH off. Nooo! Heh...but my lasers cycle before the TBR's does and I manage to get the final stab in.

******* beautiful. And also, come to think of it, a great story for how to deal with light 'Mechs. Communicate, position, Seismic, and shoot the damned things.

I cant get into my Meth Lynx too much... too darned slow. I just cant get over that.

Been having some great games in my little jumpy Osiris tho. 8 jump jets and 6 small lasers with Locust speeds. Man I love that mech, I need to buy more, even though the others arent as jumpy. If they quirk that thing with some more armor in a month or two, it might be my favorite mech in the game.

Just wish you werent so blind in the Pirahnas and I'd love those a lot more than I do. I have seen some screenshots where people mess with the field of view and you can actually see out the side windows that way... maybe I'll try that...

Also, just to kinda brag myself... here's why I love lights so much. You can do some really silly things and level those buggers up quick! Incursion battery runs, and maybe a base destruction or two as well.

Do yourself a favor and set up a 4D with 6x MLas, an XL280, 4x JJ, and a spare DHS in the engine. It's hands-down my favorite light and I'm a Locust diehard, the thing is incredibly dangerous with that build. Honestly don't know why people sleep on it, I've had far more 1k+ games in the OSR-4D than any PIR, LCT, or FLE. The only thing that even came close was my 2x LPLas RVN-4X back before it got nerfed.

I actually tried playing with the OSR4D for a while, but all of my matches had a weird desync bug ONLY with the OSR4D where the server really, really struggled to tell where I was in the mech at any given time so I'd start teleporting wildly between where my client said I was and where the server said I was. Put in a ticket a few months ago, am curious if it got looked at.

At first I thought it was maybe just a coincidence, but I started testing it by alternating between the osiris and any other mech, and every match I'd start desyncing with the OSR for some freakish reason. Really killed the mood in getting to play it, which is unfortunate because it did seem like a diamond in the rough.

It flies under the radar because it has no quirks to speak of. And still won’t after this week’s quirk pass.

Wrong about what?

Lights (and Piranhas) are not that hard to kill, they cannot go "toe to toe" with assaults, and hitreg is just fine.

Sounds like you just need to aim better

The proposed answer was to use SSRM to counter the PIR. Fine.

Apart from the fact nerf after nerf has made acquiring locks even harder - smaller targeting reticule, longer lock on times, proportionately huge agility boosts for the lights etc., THIS kind of answer is pathetic, aim better is a yes for ballistics and energy, but has nothing to do with a borked missile system.

Keep it on track and consider your wholly irrelevant posts.
