Free tool to change the taskbar back, other than that everything else is the same.

https://github.com/v...ExplorerPatcher

I installed W11 because of CPU 12700K upgrade, everything is working great.

im on a 5800x, so im gonna hold out a year or two. those new intel chips are really the only reason to take the plunge early.

Fair enough but other than the UI and TPM, there is no difference between W11 and W10. In fact, there is no W10 compatibility mode in W11 because the core of the OS is 100% the same.

Likewise drivers and programs that work with W10 will work with W11, no changes needed.

thats par for the course. each new version of windows at most upgrades a handful of core systems, then it gets a coat of paint to make it look more modern.

i think tpm is just something i have to switch on in the bios. but ive heard reports of poor performance with amd processors. not sure if that has been patched yet, but thats part of the reason im holding out.

No need 2 rush. But the amd problem is done. I am only on win 11 (r5 3600) because i like to test out new stuff and so i am they "beta tester" for my family devices.

The last time there was any meaningful upgrade to the os was from xp to win7. To me win7 is still the best overall x86 os because it supports such a wide variety of older programs natively with no need for emulators or shells.

Tpm is indeed a bios setting and iirc the amd issue was with using it without the dedicated hardware plugin which forces a software solution in the cpu. Tpm dongles for the mobo are cheap though so get one of those if you really want to use win11.

the biggest upgrade in the windows timeline was probibly the move from the win 9x/me kernel (which ran on top of dos) to the nt kernel. this led to the glorious 2k/xp era. this was probibly the biggest change to the core os that was ever done. windows 7 was ultimately just a bugfix pass on vista, and the only thing vista really gave us was an accelerated ui.

windows 8-11 seem like a steady transition to a unified ms platform, the transition to the phone/tablet style interface is part of that. ms wants a unified platform that they can lock down and ultimately de pc-ify the pc. mostly so they can play catch-up with google, apple, etc.

I've had zero issue with windows 11 playing MWO and I've notice a moderate performance boost.
On a supposedly unsupported AMD CPU.
Everything runs just fine.

In an issue right this minute!
Switched to windowed mode 1960x1080 NOW you can't access the exit or setting buttons as they are now hidden by W11 tall taskbar!

I just found the option to auto-hide taskbar lol

You cannot alt-tab from within MWO UNLESS you already have another window open.

Wow, sounds like Win11 are guinea pigs & white lab mice...
I'm gonna stick with Win10 until EoL in ~4 years time...

(Bought ThinkPad with 5-year warranty... which would be very close to WIn10 EoL...)

you know i got a number of win 7 machines that still receive updates. im wondering if eol is actually real. it seems like its propaganda to get you to update to a system that they have even more of a stranglehold on. if they are still patching security holes, why upgrade at all? unless windows 11 has some critical feature that i cant live without (it doesnt).

im seriously considering the linux route, as i know the system pretty well (all my network infrastructure is linux based, and im pretty good with the os). there is also reactos, but that has been taking its merry time for quite awhile and i dont expect it to hit beta any time soon.

Typically those are for features that have a shared platform development like .net framework, dx updates etc since they work the same regardless if they are on win10 or 7. Eol usually means no more security updates or os specific updates to keep up compatibility with new standards or hardware.

Not a single one that I've found.
And a decent FPS boost.

Yah, just upgraded video drivers and now the game is punting me. Win11 x64 Asus Rog Strix 4080. Gonna try another voltage drop and see what happens, card is not overlclocked ever.

Off topic on MW5 I turned off Ray Tracing and all the issues of crashes are gone in case any one has the same issues

Other than running repair tool, prob best bet is too just run stock settings as an test. MWO is especilly bitchy for any kind of ram oc (that might include XMP settings).
