In all honesty, I never thought they would be insane enough to pull this. Then again, mind that most people do not use forums, at least not with any regularity.

Most players who have Tier 1 just because they got there with time and not with their skills.

The quality of matches has decreased. I don't think their quantity is worth it. But looking at the roadmap matchscore adjustment, I think you've decided already.

The matchscore adjustment was done by The Cauldron. We had no idea 8v8 was going to be tested when we did it.

Alright so from my experience today.

Pros of 8v8:
- higher FPS since there's less mechs to render (this is a noticeable 20%+ minimum on my system)
- lower match search times since you only need 2/3 as many players (this might also lead to better matchmaking, but I'm not sure on that)
- higher individual impact on a match. yes, it sucks that if 1-2 mechs die early, you are at a big disadvantage. but having a bigger impact personally makes the game much more fun imo.
- the games I played so far have all shown a lot more teamwork than 12v12

Cons:
- less mechs, so less stuff to shoot.

imo 8v8 is far better than 12v12.
though, please, remove 4-man groups. they're really really op rn.

WOT also has enough shortcomings. Although I haven't played this S*** in a long time.

Entirely agree. With the reduced player count, group sizes probably should be limited to max of 2, or put into a different queue. Honestly, most groups I am seeing are 2 mans and not 4 mans, but it takes no stretch of the imagination to comprehend what four mechs working together and well trained can do.

Other than that, it's refreshing and fun. Far more communication and teamwork. Much safer to scout for the team and relay information. Victory and success is impacted far more by baiting or just being in the right place (or wrong place). It feels more dynamic and fun to me.

Edit:

That said, farming mentality is clear to see in several players. That, and people are so used to being instantly deleted many are skittish to get close to a fight, when in an 8v8 the extra armor in the front lines matters all the more. End up with more than a few matches where an entire lance or more is standing 600m away from the objective just poking the enemy, leaving control of the objective to a minority of players who could be easily overwhelmed.

The 4 people groups that several others have mentioned is a prime example.

FIIIIIINALLY!

8v8 has been threatened for far too long.

Matches are better balanced (tier wise) for me, also has a slight scouting vibe... BRING SCOUTING BACK!

maps feel less crowded (which is a good thing)

super quick matches compared to usual.

im not finding any cons... yet

I've tried about 10/12 games on every tier, LRM boats aren't commonplace in the slightest. If you're going to complain about weapon frequency, the only weapon i've started to notice has risen up dramatically in popularity is Gauss Rifles in t2 and t1. Seems every match has at least 2 gauss boats per team

Hello, thanks for testing out 8v8 PGI....it is mostly workable and look forward to it being implemented in the event queue. It would be nice as a standard option to choose in the voting slide for 8v8 or 12 v12. I know the feedback has been a bit polarized, but mostly the real issue has been with balancing tonnage for each side...sometimes you get a whole team of lights/mediums and only one assault other times you get a bunch of heavies with 2-3 assaults. This was an issue in 12 v 12 before but the extra player count evened things out a bit. And now of course chasing down fleas, locusts, and other small ecm mechs is even more of a chore at the end of the game in skirmish gametypes lol.

Bottom line is that some form of 8 v 8 would probably be welcome in QP.

I've added this to the original post but wanted to drop it here as well...

Greetings MechWarriors,

I just wanted to address some of the feedback and/or concerns we've received regarding this 8v8 weekend event:
  • Yes we're aware we should have provided some heads-up to this event coming, our apologies on that.
  • This was a PGI initiative for data purposes (see below) and not a Cauldron suggestion etc.
  • This is not permanent, it will end with the Patch on Tuesday at 10am Pacific Time.
  • While there has been discussion in the past regarding reverting Quick Play back to the original 8v8 we had at launch, this event is specifically for gathering data for an upcoming Event Mode Queue (more on that coming soon). That being said, if the discussion of permanently reverting back to 8v8 were to come up again, we're now gathering more recent data and feedback.
  • Yes, we understand that 4-person groups have a lot of influence in 12v12 matches and even more in 8v8, and that is being taken into consideration as well.
  • Some have expressed concerns that we launched this event while running two other events that have match score requirements. We will be adding 7 days to each of those events.
  • After this event I will post a new feedback thread on the forum, please participate!

All I can say Daeron is, about F*CKING time mate!!!

Quick question too, is it possible to tweak each regional server to support different game modes, for example keep US server QP 12v12 and make OCE QP 8v8?
