I dislike the nerf but it's not as bad as I expected.
Personally I think they should have upped the heat one, matched the max range and damage fall off to a med laser and left the ghost heat alone.
The ghost heat increase pretty much shuts down any options over two which fits the Cauldron pattern of 'You are not allowed to play in any manner other than what we want to play'.
The reason Snubs got the previous buff was because they were not viable enough on their own (especially on lights and mediums), and only got used in combos with other weapons (mainly AC20's.) So they buffed them and added a bunch of HSL to pure energy mechs.
But that caused them to be too strong when paired with other weapons, and their PPFLD alpha was too high, because the ghost heat penalty wasn't that large.
So that's why we've gotten the changes we have. The ghost heat changes don't impact lights and mediums running only 2, or heavies running AC20+2Snubs. The heat increase will hurt lights a bit (the urbie may need more attention as it is an outlier.) But the ghost heat penalties do impact heavies doing the old AC20+3Snubs, and pure snub boats firing several at once.
Increasing the ghost heat multiplier was a good fix because it doesn't really affect dedicated brawlers that get stuck in all that much. They will stay in combat and stagger fire, and only notice a minimal decrease in DPS. Currently, we're seeing tons of mechs doing giant PPFLD alphas due to the low ghost heat. That's the problem, and that is going to be toned down a lot now.
