i think he is referring to the whine->patch->whine cycles that are typical around here.

So is this where we go to tell our sob story? Here's mine:

I was playing in a light mech, went to do one of two things light mechs can actually do, go backstab. Spent 5 minutes running all the way around, find a guy. Start shooting. Seconds later, 3 more assaults are staring at me. Get a nice red down arrow despite having distracted 4 assaults for a minute while our team demolished everyone else on their team.

Get the holy red down arrow for trying to win, and accomplishing that. My bad.

Yup Cherge, I've been playing lights recently and I've had similar experiences. Then again, I'm not sure how an algorithm can really quantify something like that....perhaps distraction could be inferred by the relative movements of enemy mechs to your mech.

As to the OP, I've had some infuriating experiences myself in MWO (posted about a couple of them here). I've narrowed it down to two basic things:

1: This game is just complicated and a little weird, and I don't have the time or the motivation to learn all the ins and outs. It's supposed to be fun and relaxing, not a second job.

2. The match-maker just totally screws up sometimes, and yes I've been on both ends of this. At least since switching to lights, I can run around like an idiot when I see we're clearly outmatched, instead of getting smoked in a big slow assault mech.

Just played 5 games, and not one of them was above a 12-5.

That happens. People tend to forget the times when they win with a significant lead, and remember very well having days like you just had.

Got killed by a 25-ton 'Mech while I was in a 65-tonner. I'm mid T2, so it's not like I totally suck.

And? You don't have to "totally suck" to have a better player beat you. And simply saying "A 25 tonner beat me while I was in a 65 tonner" lacks all context that could provide clarity. What kind of situation were you in? What map? How badly dinged up were you? Did the smaller mech have friends? I've killed Atlases with PPC shots to the face in a 35 tonner, but I couldn't have done that without my team mates beating the tar out of it first. Makes sense when you provide context.

Quote

Saw yet another assault running nothing but LRMs, sitting in the back.

Oh boo hoo. So what? You don't get to decide what weapon's people bring any more than they can decide what you bring. We all have to deal with other players bringing sub-optimal builds. Maybe they don't understand, or perhaps they do, and just like taking advantage of the other 11 players target locks. Just deal with it. Some games you're the bug, and other games you're the windshield. There is immense satisfaction taking out an LRM boat that's been tormenting you all match.

Quote

Got hit by snubs every .7 seconds or so until I died.

And in a couple of months, it'll be pulse lasers. Or maybe SRMs. Or everyone will be playing Urbies. Flavour of the month.

Quote

Canyon Network 4 times, Hibernal once.

Why is this even a complaint? I've played Solaris (ick) multiple times already today. Sometimes you get Polar. Or Forced Colony.

Quote

Tried multiple builds - JJ medium, brawler assault and medium, long-range sniper, face-time and laser-vomit heavy, etc. Didn't make a damn bit of difference, because it was somehow always a bad pic for the map/team composition.

Now this I can empathize with. It would be nice to have a drop deck for quick drops. So at least you have a chance to not be totally boned because people chose the one map that would screw your mech choice.

But on the other hand, can we consider ourselves good players if we cannot adapt to what map has been given?

Quote

Matchmaker sucks. Lights suck. Snubs suck. I think I'm just done.

If you can't beat them, join them. A Flea with a snub PPC and ECM is hilarious. Every few seconds, a PPC shot from out of no where. First time I ran into one, I took several hits before I could figure out what the hell was happening. xD

if you check the team stats after every game, every bad match if you are scoring just as low as your team then you were not doing any better than them, but I do see it often other team has 400+ avg match score while team I'm on has 100 to 200 avg and most times I can break 200 matchscore in these cases(sometimes can't even break 100 when you are tanking domination circle all by yourself), its all circumstantial though and makes it look like MM is taking players with better stats and stacking them on one side vs players with bad stats and when you get dropped on that side its absolute hell, all you can do is try and hope you get an equal rating at the end. I rage quit at least once a day but I still have the same method for dealing with it, go outside spark up and relax for a bit.

I second, third, and fourth this. A great light pilot can beat you in a medium or heavy or assault too if they know what they’re doing. Don’t assume that a certain mech can or cannot pose a threat to you, it’s all situational, it’s all skill.

I'm not a light pilot by far. :P I greatly prefer mediums, and somewhat, heavies. But a light with a PPC is a great weapon against all those mechs with ECM that like to 'snipe' or launch missile spam from the back line.

YUP--- you need to learn light mechs, short range stuff. the HIGHEST damage in the game is the machine gun, i have seen mechs with 10 or more of this weapon, and a WING MAN, with small and med lazers, let us not talk about the SENSORs they may have, and never talk about there SPEED,
\
there is a learning curve to playing the game, stop being MOODY and learn

Heh,.. some how when i'm in a light all the people have great aim and i die miserably.. When someone else is in a light i'm like.. why won't this thing die!

Try a streak boat and hunt them.. or play them and learn what they can and can't do.

Lights are stupidly op and always have been but you also always have people saying nonsense like "IT shoulnt be like the tabletop" while assaults go 60kph. Countless examples and videos and then the same people wonder why the game isnt more popular.

Why lights are least played and worst scoring class?
Would you have LB60-X direwolf running 160 kph or what do you mean?
Game isn't popular in you opinion because?

Lights are stupidly op ...

As far as I know, light 'Mechs have the worst K/D ratio, the worst MS ratio and the worst W/L ratio of all weight classes in MWO.

So how exactly can light 'Mechs be "stupidly OP"?

Anyway, the right thread for complaining that light 'Mechs are OP is here: Light Mechs Are Screwed Up

View PostEider, on 09 September 2022 - 11:16 PM, said:

... and always have been ...

I remember the time when my MWO selection of light 'Mechs was like this:
  • Mr. "walking CT" Jenner
  • anemic Spider with three medium lasers
  • fragile Locust - no ECM variant, of course
  • underarmed Commando
  • legging-prone Raven
All those 'Mechs were unquirked, of course. Light 'Mech as a class were definitely OP.

Of course, as in all weight classes, there were stronger and weaker variants.

You have many types of assault 'Mechs in the tabletop BattleTech game:
  • ANH-2A Annihilator - 32 km/h
  • CRK-5003-0 Crockett - 54 km/h
  • T-IT-N10M Grand Titan - 65 km/h
  • SPT-N2 Spartan - 86 km/h
As you can see, assault 'Mechs in the BattleTech game can move with speeds ranging from very slow to quite fast.

I guess that the failed Community Warfare/Faction Warfare/Faction Play game mode or the failed Solaris 7 game mode could be more important factors ...

Or maybe the lack of the game development since god knows when?
