Greetings all..

I am retuning after a long time away. I see many changes, and I am not up to speed. I have several on friend list, only 4 have logged in this year.

Can someone suggest a casual group/or resources I can hang with and get up to speed? I have discord and some voice chat would be good.

Thanks..

Stick.. Out.

If by restart you mean get a handle on all the changes then the official discord of the Cauldron balance team would be a good place to start.

https://discord.com/invite/H3YKPyRJ

Otherwise as you play the game ask around in voip if any of the outfits you see are looking for a returning player to group up with and guide back into the current meta.

Generally thought the recent Cauldron changes have really helped flesh out unused weapon systems and their quirk passes have resurrected a fair few meh or even poopy mechs.

So a much larger portion of mech are now viable in both quick play and faction play and there are several metas to pursue.

Lights have also been on the receiving end of a nice round of buffs almost to the point some are complaining that they might be a bit op with certain loadouts.

It's a good time to come back especially after so long so have fun and kill 'em all! Posted Image

A warm welcome back to MWO!
Hoping that you'll have fun playing MWO again!

It'll be good for you join a North America based Team, play together, ask questions that they would answer...
That'll be the fastest way to get up to speed...

0. Were you around when MWO introduced tons of new weapons+equipment via Civil War timeline?

1. There is a Competitive Team recruitment forum here: (newcomers & returning players are welcome to post here also!)

Our [SSBH] Team is more for QP fun, IS Faction based, mainly in Europe timezone though...

We do have Discord for offline messaging, as well as Discord chat for real time ingame group communications...

4. All below info are "optional"; a reference fyi as needed:

There are good YouTube videos from MWO streamers who take the time to explain:

Baradul** (circa 2018 to 2020 only)
TTB
JGx D A T A

Note: ** - Baradul used to explain in detail how your mech playstyle fits with your Skill Tree from 2018-2020. Recent 2021 and onwards Baradul videos are more cookie cutter style and less explanation.

I appreciate all the input here. Thanks.

My last match before my Van Winkle nap was likely September of 2012. I have research/work to do.

Prior to that, I was a half of the time lance commander and worked tightly with a regular group. Sad to see those stats are not around.

Welcome, dude.

Instead of reviewing the changes, may i suggest going in quick play blind.

Play around the skill tree, test weapons and ghost heat in the training grounds. Check the new quirks and play around them.

I actually envy you as mech building and testing is part of the journey, and some enjoy it.

Copying effective builds is one thing but you might discover fun builds for your chassis in the trial and error phase.

My favorite fun (and effective builds) are XL assaults with 1 rear armor and targeting computer 8. i can't believe it as well but i do great in them, to hell with common sense.

Cheers!

IS: a good work horse Mech if you have one. Something that does well at 200-500 meters would be a good pick imo, a standard or lfe to let you stay in the fight if a torso pops.
Clan: HLLx6,HMLx4, 18+heat sinks. Cackle.

Here's a (brief?) summary of major weapon behavior changes to give you an idea...

https://mwomercs.com...auldron-changes
===========================
Major weapon behavior changes:
===========================

IS: STD Large Lasers: increased to firing 4x at once without ghost heat penalty.

IS: STD PPC: increased to firing 3x at once without ghost heat penalty.
IS: STD PPC: does slight (exponential decay) damage below minimum range (similar to Clan LRM).

IS: Light-PPC: no minimum range anymore.

IS: Snub-Nose-PPC: decreased back down to firing 2x at once without ghost heat penalty (June-2022 patch)
IS: Snub-Nose-PPC: does splash damage (similar to Clan ER-PPC), damage profile 2.5 / 10 / 2.5

IS: Light-Gauss: [Maintenance_HSL]: changed to "no" ghost heat penalty (can only charge/fire 2x at once though).
IS: Light-Gauss: no longer part of ghost heat linked penalty group of IS Gauss Family & IS PPC Family.

IS: STD SRM4: increased to firing 5x at once without ghost heat penalty.

IS: Rocket Launcher: does slight (exponential decay) damage below minimum range (similar to Clan LRM).

IS: CASE: now 0 tons, still consume 1x critical slot. Equippable in Arm, Leg, Left/Right Torso.

IS & Clan: AMS ammo does not explode anymore upon crit.

IS & Clan: MASC redline threshold increased to 85% (from 75%); MASC lasts longer (fill rate decreased).

Clan: ER-Micro-Laser: changed to "no" ghost heat penalty (fire as many as you want at once!)

Clan: Micro-Pulse-Laser: increased to firing 12x at once without ghost heat penalty.
Clan: Micro-Pulse-Laser: no longer part of ghost heat linked penalty group of Clan ER-Micro-Laser.

Clan: AC5: increased to firing 4x AC5 at once without ghost heat penalty.
Clan: AC5: decreased to 1x projectile shell per shot (down from 2x).

Clan: AC10: decreased to 2x projectile shells per shot (down from 3x).

Clan: AC20: increased to firing 2x AC20 at once without ghost heat penalty.
Clan: AC20: decreased to 3x projectile shells per shot (down from 4x).

Clan: ATM3: increased to firing 6x ATM3 at once without ghost heat penalty.

Note: [Maintenance_HSL] = Since one can only charge/fire a maximum of 2x Gauss of any kind at once,
the [Maintenance_HSL] is devised to overcome the PPC/Gauss linked Ghost Heat penalty group.
