It wouldn't hurt for you to learn some English, pretty useful language to know while visiting internet.

I know enough English to navigate the internet, but speaking fluently and engaging in real-time conversation is different. Would you try playing a game in a different language? Would you try to be understood within a group that uses a different language? It's very challenging. I don't use your language in my daily life to be able to speak fluently and understand you.

All of the messages I've written are translations.

I do play game in a different language than my own, I'm not native English speaker nor do I live in country that English has any kind of official status. But I did put some effort to learn English because it is extremely useful to be decent with (I'm far from fluent).

PGI wants feedback to try to rehabilitate the mode.

PGI should know that FP never was and never will be a mode for everyone. FP is about groups, teamplay and strategy. The majority of the MWO players just want to go "pewpew" for a few seconds, die and get to the next game.

Thank you for the recommendation, but I play games in all languages. I won't learn Japanese just to play a Japanese game today.

Do you play with Japanese people? in Voip? Most game languages can be changed nowadays.

I've never heard Japanese over VOIP. Mostly European or Eastern European languages if it's not English, but barely any of that even. If you hear someone on VOIP they're probably speaking English, even if it's not their native tongue. Turkish is not one I've heard over VOIP, but half of the time VOIP gets drowned out by game sounds or just mic goofiness anyway so I might have heard it and not been able to recognize it (not that I have a prayer of understanding it, that's not a language I really know at all).

As it happens, I am - English is not my native language and engaging with English-language communities, both in text and on VOIP, is what actually helped improve my language skills over past two decades or so.

I would. Some people don't bother, though - cue angry Russian over VOIP.

English is going to be the most useful one here, it's already a lingua franca for a lot of international business (that and Mandarin, really) and consequently it gets taught in a lot of places abroad. I hear a lot of accented English - definitely a ton of Russian/Slavic and German accented English, some likely Italian accented, Dutch accented, French accented, and Brazilian Portuguese accented. Haven't heard too many VOIP users that I could peg as Spain-Spanish (Castilian I guess you'd call it, though there's probably a ton more regional variations than just Castilian and "rest of Spain") but some that were probably Latin American-Spanish. Scandinavian folks speaking English tend to sound a bit like the Germans or Dutch in short bursts but if they keep talking I can usually differentiate. The way they both go through an English sentence is kind of similar with the "climbing" towards the end of the sentence sometimes with a drop at the end rather than flat throughout. Some speakers do lots of little "climbs" in tone (BriOS for example, he speaks pretty quickly in English and there's lots of short rapid climbs in tone that reset between sentences, he's the only one I've heard so far that does that though so not sure if that's an individual quirk or something coming through from another tongue E: actually TTB sometimes sounds like that too, so maybe BriOS is German?)

Actually surprised I haven't heard Arabic come through at all.

If people get smoked in QP, they (1) can immediately go get another match, and (2) it probably was their fault for exposing themselves.

In FP events, people chasing the event prizes who wind up in PUG teams against spawn camping units are going to lose regardless of what they do, they're going to waste a lot of time, and they're not even going to get a chance to fire their weapons on the 3rd and 4th mechs.

It only counts in IS vs Clan games, not in Clan vs Clan or IS vs IS games. Also try to redeem your rewards on the website instead of in the game. It didn't want to update for me in the game, but worked fine on website for some reason.

The German to French transition was both very rapid and kind of funny with how smooth it was, kind of like a car doing a braking maneuver. French has very distinctive "habits". French and English spoken by Francophones rarely sounds "hurried", it's kind of a sigh with a lot of drawn out vowel sounds and a lot coming from the nose area? German tends to sound like "I'm in a hurry" and this does seem to carry through to how they speak English, there might be some regional differences there too though.

E: BrioS is Singaporean, huh, actually didn't realize that. Okay.

Yep almost everyone I know in game outside my unit (100% Finns) are from Europe but only few of ~50 people are actually native English speakers, but everyone speaks English enough to be understood. Because timezones I only have few in-game friends from 'Murica or Prison continent who are native English speakers ofc.

Hmm.

I played hard quite a few hours and really, really tried to like faction play, as I had a great first match with no groups, all random single players like me, and everybody went hard and it rocked.

However, the more I played the more obvious it became my first match was not representative of faction play. Probably two-thirds of the matches I had involved mass groups that completely dominated, and basically ruined the thing. If anyone has a good time in a match where one side is down in kills 0-15 within the first five minutes of combat starting, it sure isn't me.

Faction Play seems to display an exaggerated version of the flaws found in quick play, unfortunately. Groups demolishing non-groups being the worst in terms of impact, and secondarily the occasional elite player farming a dozen kills with their first mech against opponents who should never have been on the field against them in the first place. You add a few occasions where a fellow has his last couple of mechs being dropped into a lance of enemy assault mechs waiting in the drop zone for the insta-kill, and you have an decidedly poor gaming experience on the whole.

Just don't see myself revisiting this kind of experience, regardless of rewards being offered.

Unfortunately, any event like this will just be like ringing the dinner bell for the sharks to come in for feeding time. There is a certain kind of player that enjoys such "seal-clubbing" - and an event like this that is meant to encourage new people to come try FP, usually just means more lambs to the slaughter.

The problem we see here is less of a problem with the game mode itself, but rather the playerbase / playercounts. FP has a higher barrier of entry to being useful (at least 1-2 dropdecks of 4 mechs all at 91/91 skill nodes and fully equipped) - while it's not a problem for someone with 300 million c-bills and 5k GSP sitting around, it is a problem for a new player. This is why I thought a separate queue for FP Scouting should be around, because all you needed was one medium mech, and it's more likely to get 8 players not in a group than 24 (or, for a group queue, easier to find 3 friends than 11)
If it makes you feel any better, I think most of the "organized groups farming disorganized pugs" actually have no malignant intentions of killing the game mode or griefing - they just saw an exciting chance to play FP again, "got the band back together" and queued up, only to not meet much competition.

In a slightly less imperfect world, we could have groups only go against groups in FP, and solo players be paired up only against other solo players. Realistically though, I would expect 12-mans vs pugs and lopsided results going forward. As it was, as it is, as it (likely always) shall be.

I do want to thank the devs for doing this event though. It's definitely well-meaning and I got some very very good games and exciting moments out of it. I just hope it doesn't permanently turn too many people off FP who were open to trying it and then got shut down.

Well you can start with making it stable. I've had multiple crash to login screen while trying to do Faction play specifically (No effect on quick play mode), and worse, when I log back in and try to rejoin a match in progress, I've had a 50/50 crapshoot on whether I get back into the match and play for a few minutes before the next login crash, or have the entire program just crash to desktop. And the fact that this is triggering the penalty system is just icing in a **** cake!

This feels more like playing an unpolished beta, than a game that's more than a decade old, and that's a very bad thing!

You sure it's not your PC ?!

When MWO crashes during gameplay it was always my PC that had issues and the rest of the time it has been 100% issues FREE for many years now! Posted Image

Awesome, good to see some Faction play support.

That said, this event feels very short, like adding up all the damage needed its longer than the usual monthly challenges. And thats not even factoring in the extended wait times just to find a match.

Please consider either lengthen the events, or drastically cut down on the numbers we need to do. It quickly turns it from a fun event to a time-consuming slog that just oozes cheap freemium vibes.

It's fairly clear that the Siege maps were made with the same mindset, and most likely by the same people, who did the original Polar Highlands, which was so hated that it almost never saw play, and when it did you'd see 2 to 3 people per side disconnect and take the penalty rather than play on that godforsaken map.

It was so bad PGI had to eventually break down, and completely redesign it. Vault is the worst offender, but all of the Siege maps need a complete rework, just like Polar, and for the exact same reason!

Original Polar was NOT BAD : The PLAYERS WERE !!!

People who are too stupid to figure out that high rocks give them better cover than low snowy hills deserve to get shot to pieces !!! Even by n00by LURMers !!!

Even if I choose to play as a team, I can't communicate with you because I don't know the language you're using.

You're saying, 'Why aren't you playing as a team?' You wanted to retreat, you said it to your team. I don't understand.
You said you wanted to attack a player, or you told me to attack. I don't understand this.

You're marking a target, but I don't know why you're doing it.
Are you marking it for me to attack?
Are you marking it to warn me?
Or do you want me to protect you? I don't understand this.
If you enjoy playing the same game with three or four deaf people, I don't know about you, but I don't enjoy it.
Some players are forced to play this game alone. It would be good if you could understand that.
There seems to be a team, yes, but this is not a team.

When I say deaf, I'm referring to people who don't speak the same language.

Come on...

This is a game!

Not rocketscience...

Chat or "the E menu" is used in a very basic way to communicate with the team and if you can't follow that or can't simply move with the team and check your minimap frequently then you are doing pretty much everything wrong! Posted Image

And for the salty and whiny people who only enjoy nascar and no teamplay. FP isn´t for you so just stay in QP. Stop trying to get the problems from QP into FP by crying in this forum. You have no idea how epic a fight between two organized groups with twelve players is. And how utterly dumb and boring QP is compared to FP.

AMEN! Posted Image

It wouldn't hurt for you to learn some English, pretty useful language to know while visiting internet.

Sadly a lot of people in many countries disagree with both you and me when it comes to that discussion and want everything to be in their native language even if it makes no sense to do so when it comes to certain things like computers/games/phones/etc... Posted Image

I know enough English to navigate the internet, but speaking fluently and engaging in real-time conversation is different. Would you try playing a game in a different language? Would you try to be understood within a group that uses a different language?
It's very challenging. I don't use your language in my daily life to be able to speak fluently and understand you.

You don't need to speak to me : Just listen to me!

Or even better : Read the CHAT during the game! Posted Image

At some point I have remembered various Russian/Spetznas and Chinese/PLA things from Battlefield 2 for example and was able to repeat the stuff that was said! Posted Image
So it's not impossible...

PGI should know that FP never was and never will be a mode for everyone. FP is about groups, teamplay and strategy. The majority of the MWO players just want to go "pewpew" for a few seconds, die and get to the next game.

What is the difference to QP again? Nascar, getting left behind, being a target dummy, die quick and get nothing.

So true! Posted Image

Also : MWO in general isn't for everyone!
That's just a cold hard FACT!

If we focus on the evolution of the game rather than the evolution of humans Posted Image

Evolution of Humans actually seems lacking in this game for the last few years...

MWO effectively runs native in a Debian based Linux distro via Steam/Proton. There used to be a need for a specific build of Proton but that has not been necessary lately.

Bring back Scouting in conjunction with FP events!
Bring back Tukayyid!
