Good map concept overall, but we definitely did NOT need another low-visibility map.

Oh boy one of these *ahem*
Dear Sir, Madam, or Mech shaped entity.
We of the brawling committee are saddened to hear your eyeballs do not function properly. However fear not! If you cannot find us we will find you! We shall announce our presence with a hail of srms and/or AC20's surely loud enough to wake the dead and get your attention.
But seriously though, if you can't see on this map that's a YOU problem. Get glasses for those failing eyes or something. It's really not hard to tell the difference between moving objects and static ones even in 'low' visibility.

and yes i agree that the map is too dark. its definitely an outlier. now i dont mind having a dark map, but do the sky and ground have to match? some contrast is good. most normal players will tweak their gamma appropriately, but if you have to tweak it when a specific map comes up, and then tweak it again when you are done, you have something grossly out of spec.

I was really looking forward to the event, but it's basically unplayable, and the opposite of fun

I tried running 50/50 for a while recently, but it's just not comfortable.
Scrapyard is the dimmest map in the game, mechs appear as black on black.

Just tried it with brightness at max, peaked over a hill at about 300 meters and could not see several mechs until they fired up at me from the valley. Obviously I would have seen all but the stealth fafnir if I was using IR.
I like the map topography, but the contrast and brightness is poor for quality play.
I never use night vision since it is terrrible, like gen 1 Russian piezoelectric (squeeze for juice) terrible (anyone remember those, no batteries required?)
Having random bits of scrap sticking up to stop your mech from walking doesn't help playability.
It's a fun map, really nice design, already found some nice sniper hides. Needs some tweeks though.

got the same map 3x last night. pink on the first run and it was normal after that. so i figure its an initialization bug in the shader. stuff isnt being set up correctly on the first run, but run it though once and it fixes itself.
different platforms have different bugs. when i cross compiled my newtonian space sim engine for linux i noticed that space was suddently white. the reason was black was the default color, and i never changed it, but on linux it was white. same graphics api. i dont know why its different, i only know that i did not explicitly set a color value. that was a bug.
pgi doesnt have a nvidia bias (game runs way better on my amd card), they have a deficiency in their ability to resolve bugs.

I can confirm this. I had Scrapyard for the first time this morning ...and of course it was in pink. I left the match and rejoined it. The pink was gone and I had only the darkness to deal with

im not even sure what good gamma settings are, ive tried every permutation of brightness and gamma on the testing grounds and the result is the same. sure i can find a setting where the mechs are slightly easier to see on that map, but load any other map and things are too bright. so i put brightness back in the middle at 0.5 and gamma around 0.67.
mechs stand out pretty redily against the sky, but if they are backed by the black terrain you can only just barely make out the silhouette, forget targeting specific components at that point. its easier if they are moving. either the map needs more ambient light or the textures need a bit of brightening.
