Thank gosh someone is finally listening to the player base and hopefully will fix this issue as it has been around in one form or another for quite some time and many of these bugs and exploits have.

If it were me, I would lock down every bit in the game even in resident memory so if the game files or any addon to the game was present before game launch it just ejected them from MWO back to desktop until they (the user) put a clean copy of MWO with no alterations.

Plus come on this is 2023 I would also lock all visual settings in the UI at high because I really do not think players are still running 486 computers anymore.

P.S and lock any user config files as well ECT anything in MWO that could be altered and not a stock Vennela version.

Thanks for the reply. My input would be short term remove forest classic and if possible on viridian bog edit the lily pad art asset into something that hugs the ground instead of being a tall cover providing tree like thing or just remove it from the map. Other than the one vegetation removal setting the rest of the config is very useful for either competitive settings or beautification. Long term block the user.cfg from working BUT redo the in game settings to allow for a much wider range of options and a new ultra preset that allows for full details at all ranges etc AND a comp setting for legal optimal comp settings. The game is quite pretty when maxed out but you can only get that via the user.cfg and it shouldn't be something you have to manually edit to achieve.

Pretty much. As I said earlier you can't stop hyper competitive people from trying to garner every possible advantage they can get and so far all of this is 100% legal. How far and how much effort are you willing to expend to win? Those that are willing to spend that effort often rise to the top because reflexes only go so far once you break into a certain level and you need something more than just nimble fingers.

Color blind/hud colors/bigger text would be nice. Only took years to change dom from yellow to jello lime green. Why can't we change the IS hud's crappy yellow and less yellow text to read wtf weapons we have and how much ammo is left?

Allowing ANY user setting that can remove cover/obstacles should absolutely be removed. No one is using rigs from the generation this game came out and I find the claims of it being used simply for improving performance highly suspect.

Rather than removing Forest Classic, why not instead make the trees have collision & knockdown, like the ones on most of the other maps? Hopefully it'd be fairly straightforward and it would make them more than a purely decorative element.

Time and effort. Removing the map from rotation is basically a one and done text edit. Changing all the vegetation into collision mapped vegetation like the other maps would require an intensive scrubbing of the entire maps art assets. I only mentioned doing that for bog because its only one art asset that is unduly effected and would take minimal time to replace with another asset. There are dozens if not possibly hundreds of different art assets that would have to be changed around on forest classic and that would be a long term deployment as there would be no way to get it done before the next patch.

Thank you for the reply can you please also tell them to go back to RANDOM MAP SELECTION we have in MWO what 30 maps? new and old and a lot never get played anymore heck I played grim plexus 6 times in 2 hours and finally got to play Caustic after almost a month of not playing it.

For the love of Baby Jesus give us a break and get rid of the map voting feature that no one ever wanted.

Personal opinion but one of the reasons I still play this game is the vote screen for map and mode. I wish more pvp arena games had that option. However since they did take a vote on most popular and least popular maps I think that the maps that are presented could be done better as well as modes since they have the data to support such a thing. Things like conquest and incursion being the two choices. 99.9% of the time its going to be conq that is the winner so its a pointless pairing. Or when its the same map with three variations and one more that rarely gets votes. Another pointless pairing.

I would be *somewhat* surprised if a tool to batch-edit assets on a given map didn't exist.

Absolutely. But again its a time/effort ratio. Easier to remove for now with a one and done map rotation edit or rush an edit of the entire map which is going to take a lot longer even with automation in time for the next patch?

Why does a highly skilled player need MOAR WIN?


To eke out an advantage vs the other highly skilled players? They don't do the config hax because they are worried about farming average players. They can do that already using very high settings with all the visual clutter. They need an edge vs others of similar skill because hyper competitive.

Depends on which governments they were citizens of. Doping for many athletes in certain less scrupulous nations was state sponsored because the ~nation~ itself wanted an advantage. As I said you can't stop hyper competitive people from trying to gain an advantage and in this case its all 100% legal. Ethical? Well thats a subjective debate.

Just for fun:
I tried max graphic settings (recommended by NVidia), fps dropped from 170 to 70, all was ok and beautiful.
But the PC was so hot and noisy, so I had to go back to [low] settings.

A few points on this topic to my knowledge, having found / popularized quite a few of the controversial CFG lines:

- PGI has (recently) removed actually problematic lines from the CFG, so if they viewed the ones in Gee's video as a problem, they could remove them to.
- I've checked the config Gee provided (and will probably write a long addition-comment), and to my knowledge, there isn't anything left that people keep secret.
- Most of the "problematic" lines were only found somewhat recently, the oldest being tree removal in mid 2021. I think it's only been in the past few months that the people who dig into CFG stuff have finally gotten a somewhat complete understanding of it. (CryEngine 3 documentation kinda sucks.)
- While researching the CFG lines, I've passed on multiple problematic lines to Cauldron/PGI, and some of them got removed, some didn't (for example the tree removal).

I'm personally happy to see the video as it is, since it actually has a chance to even the odds, especially for comp.
And you know, if enough people agree that these variables should be locked, maybe PGI will come around and do it.

usercfg should be locked, comp players shuldnt manually modify game files in order to get any sort of adventages ; if there is things to be tweaked they must be tweaked from In game menu, acessible to every players and not only to a low percentage of very interested pilots.

Unless this is addressed by devs, i refuse to play this game.

No player unwilling to study this sort of file modification should be put into disadvantage.
