Well I'll put it this way. The original coders for mwo were damn near genius level for what they managed to do which has held up to a decade of constant twiddling and additions and other than a few lingering hit reg and physics quirks is stable and functional. If they could do that with an engine that didn't really support what they wanted to do then what do you think they can do with an engine that does support what they want to do? Remember the core coders that made mwo still work for pgi. They just don't work on this game anymore. Sorry but I have WAAY more faith in them than a forum poster. Not being mean just real.

......wat? They haven't really made that many code changes if any the past few years (most of what they've done lately has been spreadsheet edits with regards to balance or adding new assets which is along the same lines), so I would be shocked if stability somehow dropped without any code changes. Probably the last change that required any sort of code changes was likely the ammo quirks? Then before that the new skill tree and RACs? So I wouldn't say constant twiddling or additions by any stretch, hard to do that when you don't really have anybody touching the codebase.

I'm sure they could make an MWO2, but MW5 may just be incompatible to convert into a multiplayer game since it was never going to be one.
If you have to add a basement to a house on a slab foundation, you're better off building a basement in a new location and a new house.
Either way, it would take them years to develop and the prospects for funding are just not great. I'm not sure they could make a MWO2, and provide live ops, and actually break even or turn a profit. I'm guessing the odds are not good.

Want to see an example of that, look no further than the mess that is Windows.
Windows code-base is essentially the same since switched from 32 to 64 bit. Win7 were pre-alpha, Win10 were beta and it seems Win11 is still a technological-demo or a failure than a finsihed OS.
But hey, they are Microsoft, they live and rock that way! A small wonder they not dumped and bankrupted so far, but Satan sometimes made strange pacts with mortals...

...Isn't this latest MW5 DLC promising multiplayer? I remember friendly fire being mentioned. Friendly fire in MW5 was already a thing (though lancemates could not harm the player as far as I can see?)
