MECHWARRIOR ONLINE LEGENDS
DECEMBER 2023 PATCH NOTES

Patch Date and Time - December 12th 2023 @ 10AM – 1PM PDT
Version Number: v1.4.289.0
Size: 65 MB
Please note that due to compression differences the Steam patch size may be larger than the standalone client patch size.

Greetings MechWarriors!

As we're well into this Holiday Season, we want to thank you sincerely for your continued participation in, and support of MechWarrior Online Legends. We couldn't do it without you! We also want to celebrate with you, in the form of many events and gifts with the Stocking Stuffer event, the 12 Days of Christmas Treasure Hunt event, 2 very special December FREE 'Mechs, and lots more detailed below!

As we near the end of this year, we look back at 12 months that included a rebranding to Legends, the launch of the Legendary BattleMech series - such as the menacing Atlas "Warlord" with a laser-eye, the frightening Vapor Eagle "Gorewing" with its 360-degree torso twist, last month's defense-enhanced Centurion "Onyx" with the full-size shield, not to mention the new Clan-tech equipped 'Mechs like the monstrous Annihilator "Gausszilla" and the troublesome "Abbadon" and "Hashké" UrbanMech twins! We've also had two brand new maps with the spooky Scrap Yard and frigid Bearclaw II added to the rotation, new weapons like the Binary Laser Canon and the X-Pulse Lasers, and a myriad of other adjustments and tuning to MWO every month!

So from all of us on the MWO Team, a BIG THANK YOU and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you the players and the MechWarrior community, and a special thank you to the Cauldron for their ongoing efforts and contributions to the game, and to MWO Comp for their tireless work bringing you the annual Championship Series and prizes.

Lots more exciting things to come in '24, so we'll see you on the flipside! *And on the battlefield, as some of us will be participating in the aforementioned Hunt event.

Updates are subject to further balance changes in the future, so get out there and do the science, and get us your feedback for future iterations.

And now, we really hope you enjoy the patch!
-The MechWarrior Online Team

MWO COMP CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES 2023 FINALS
Another exciting season of the MWO Comp Championship Series came to a close this past weekend, with Equilibrium (-EQ-) taking top spot over the 2nd place 5th Jaguar Dragoons (5JDx). Great performances from all of the top teams this year, making it another season featuring the best competitive players in MWO!

DECEMBER EVENTS AND SALES
Look for ongoing events and sales all month, including the Phoenix Protocol Event, the Advent Event, the annual Stocking Stuffer Event, the December FREE 'Mech event (see the very special FREE 'Mechs below), and the 12-Days of Christmas Treasure Hunt - where you'll get to hunt down participating developers and content creators to win Dev Kill Medallions and bonus MC!

Patch Files (Direct Download)
To make the patching process easier for players with limited download caps, we'll be providing direct download links for the patch file(s) that comprise this patch. This will allow you to download the patch file(s) elsewhere, for manual injection into the MWO patcher through a Patch Cache folder.

Aside from allowing you to download the patch file(s) elsewhere, on another connection, there are no additional benefits to performing the patch this way; the patching process itself will be the same.

This direct patch download process will only work for players running the standalone client. It does not apply to players running MWO through Steam.

  • Download the above file(s)
  • For sake of ease, we recommend creating a dedicated folder for the patch file(s), such as 'MWO Patch Cache'
  • You do not need to unzip or unpack the patch file(s)
  • Launch the MWO Portal
  • Select the three horizontal lines in the top left of the Portal Window
  • Choose the 'Specify Patch File Cache' option
  • In the field that appears, paste or enter the location in which you saved the patch file(s) and hit OK
  • For example, C:\Users\<username>\Documents\MWO Patch Cache
  • Click the blue Patch button
  • The launcher will now check the Patch Cache folder you defined. If it locates the required patch files, it will unpack and use those files to apply the patch
  • Once the patch is complete, launch the game

Oh hey they're up!

Hope you all enjoy the free Commando and Warhammer! They were a blast to make. Plus Santa hat! Can never go wrong with that!

The Longbow Spitfire will have one of the best boltons in the game, if you ask me. I may post it early just out of excitement lol. Also I don't want to hear anything about hardpoint inflation, this Longbow is hardpoint deflated! It's the OH variant, which had 26 rocket launcher 10s and 2 PPCs on the original stock build. Sometimes, I just have to sit in awe of the lore variants.

The Stone Rhino Aksum is probably one of my favorite mechs I've worked on so far. The mech has a lot of Ethiopian imagery, symbolism, and style to it that was really fun to adapt to a mech. Definitely a worthwhile experience to get some heritage in the game(if only some of my family members played MWO to see it).

Is there any chance of a hunt the streamer event, as I note that the 12-Days of Christmas Treasure Hunt is for content creators only. As we all found out recently streaming on twitch doesn't count as content

Thanks, I guess? I have to say -- a free WHM-6R was given away a few months after the free GHR-5H. It was 2 years ago, but I feel like there are a bunch of other mechs you could have chosen to give away.

Do not forget your new sniping weapons - Hyper-Assault Gauss Rifles - so dissimilar from their BattleTech originals.

Christmas Treasure Hunt - where you'll get to hunt down participating developers.
Are you going to preemptively ban players again who say that they will actually hunt you, as you did previously?

Great that you are recycling another free 'Mech as you did previously with Grasshopper and Cauldron-Born - this time WHM-6R Warhammer. Warhammer 6R - September Free Mech Event

Do you think that one day you will give HAGs proper visuals that they have in BattleTech?

All looks and sounds awesome. Merry Christmas :)

PS: Anyone know if this next year’s Legendary mechs have changed hanging cockpit item designs again for this next generation of them? I like the first gens cockpit items a lot but the 2nd gens strap with all the little honeycomb cutouts in it give me trypophobia to look at in the mech cockpit.

The Aksum is exceedingly stylish so I bet it’ll have a cool cockpit item that’s why I’m asking.

Edit: just remembered in the leak thread there was a fixed equipment Legendary mentioned, is that the commando?

Thank you MWO for such a great Christmas giveaway!!

A) WHM-6R(H) is the CBills bonus boosted variant, just do your math and how much does it cost to buy WHM-6R(S)? Posted Image
I'm very happy about this!

B ) COM-D03(H):
2x energy hardpoints in the head ==> Small Cockpit for Commando? (in the same style as the Atlas Warlord?) Posted Image
3x energy hardpoints in the CT ==> Compact Gyro or Small Engine for Commando? The plot thickens Posted Image
(And 4x critical slots in CT !!)

C) Both Legendary Mechs have AMS hardpoints this time around, and I'm going to buy both, because they all have AMS hardpoints.

Thank you MWO for listening! Posted Image

I’m happy about AMS too xd

In the Cauldron leak thread they mentioned a free Legendary with fixed equipment. I thought that was the commando but then that wouldn’t make sense because it has a quirk for small pulse range, which wouldn’t make sense if you couldn’t change the equipment. Either way I like how they’re experimenting with compact gyros, shields etc.

So no hitbox adjustments for 3 mech chassis for this patch?

It's OK, really happy that MWO had more or less solved the Client crash / Server stability issues! :)

D'oh, I forgot to send those to be included in the patch notes. They're in the patch though. My fault for not getting those in for the writeup.

This mech was chosen because it's Daeron's favorite mech and he wanted a Christmas themed one. So that's the one we went with. We usually check against previous free mech events since I made the GHR-5H blunder, but this one is a special occasion.

Of course, if you don't like holiday cheer warhammer, you don't have to redeem it ;)

I would like the patch note to include comments on changes to weapons, equipment and mechs. It is not clear why these or those changes are being introduced. For example, why were the rotary cannons redesigned? Less damage and higher rate of fire. For what? To make it more difficult for the game engine to count damage?

I dont think locked equipment means weapons. But I don't really get the comment either. Unless there is a third legendary we're not told yet.

When the legendaries go on sale for MC, I feel morally obligated to buy the longbow to run 14xLRM5 in two chainfire groups.

Will it be effective? No. Will it be fun? Also no.
