I don't know about the velocity nerfs but having just played a couple of matches in mechs which rely on LRMs as primary damage dealers I can say for certain that the lowered ceiling is going to kill LRMs for all but the most skilled of players and even then...well MRMs, SRMs, and ATMs exist and are quite frankly better choices for the ranges you're going to have to operate in to actually land hits.

I don't see any point in using LRMs right now because you're not going to be able to hit anyone at range even if you've got teammates sharing targeting with you because they're going to impact on the terrain features rather than hit an enemy mech making...oh probably 7 or 8 out of every 10 LRM shots effectively useless and wasted heat and ammo.

It should be under Clan Annihilator instead of the normal Annihilator group.

Radar deprivation is one of the first things i max out. Becuase standing still to hide behind cover, and still getting hit with multiple LRM salvos is just annoying/ not fun gameplay. A lot of people feel the same.

Call me crazy, but doesn't a lower arc at reduced speed mean LRMs are actually easier to dodge on many occasions ( being deliberately vague here since I don't feel like writing a wall of text outlining specific examples ) ? To put it shortly, I can immediately think of more than a handfull situations/maps etc. where higher arc LRMS would clear an obstacle while the now lower arced LRMs will basically crush into it ( again, esp. with now reduced speed ), esp if fired at Mech uses cover/terrain smartly to dodge .

Also, doesn't the lower Arc mean its harder for LRMs to clear obstacle when fired close to it ?

I play LRMs. A lot of LRMs. Across all Tiers.

The default LRM hit rate, as in damage per missile fired, with my personal playstyle is around 45%. Can be a bit more on a LRM-friendly map, can be a bit less with plenty of AMS in the field. Overall not much of a difference though. The rest goes into terrain, or is wasted due to losing locks. It all comes down to "how many tons of ammunition do i bring" and "do i get to fire as many missiles as possible". Has been that way for years, and none of the patches in the last two years have changed anything about that number for me.

I'm 12 LRM matches post-patch in now, and so far the numbers look fairly similar to before. Slightly lower (i'd say in the 35-40% region, without much AMS to counter). By observation so far that's mostly an issue of not getting the arc / firing distances for ledges and certain cover situations right yet (which is fairly important if you play close-range LRMs like i do). Give it another 5-10 matches, and i expect to run the same numbers as before.

i gave several mechs another try last night to check the changes and LRMs are still useless. minorly easier to get locks but 30% of the damage as the slow missiles are easy for everyone to evade.

the radar dep nerf helps hold a lock long enough to get a shot off but the velocity drop means there are far fewer missles hitting. before the velocity nerf LRMs were a joke to me in a light mech as i was so fast all but a few missiles would crash the ground behind me at speed. now its hopeless to hit a light with a worthwhile % of missiles from your shot. further its very easy for heavy and even assault mechs to get behind cover before your salvo hits. you pop out to get a lock and youve eaten a few ER large lasers vomits before you lock on, fire and your missles crash into the mountain because the assault mech had time after hitting you with their laser alphas to hide behind cover from your missiles.

the height of the missiles im torn about because on teh bearclaw map LRMs were crashing into the ceiling, and as someone else pointed out, since LRM range is distance they travel and not crow-flies distance to your target, lower height means you can effectively hit things further away since they dont waste distance travelling 50m up then 50m down every time. it also reduces the distance so even though they are slower, the shortened distance may get them there around the same time. although they may also merely crash into the side of a lot more building and mountains.

overall i found it slightly easier to get a lock but my damage from LRM using mechs was probably 30% of what it was before the recent patch. its still hard to get a lock but now the missiles seem a lot easier for even slow mechs to dodge. i found LRMs better before the patch, i would prefer they change it back, jack up the radar dep and give me back my velocity. at least then when i drop a cloud of LRMs on someone more than 5 or 6 will hit.

essentially if youre not SRM or laser vomit youre fodder for someone who is. its real boring running around alpha striking everyone with lasers or SRMs all the time. it would be nice if some real balance were there. they even build the maps to kill LRM players, solaris city is notorious, but the newer purple colusseum was great for LRMs then they added all the metal mushrooms and now its antoher ERLL map. i never had issues with LRMs on the map, if you moved with the contours of the map you could get around well without getting hit. its when you get some idiot moving 40km/h in an assault try to walk across an open space and dies horribly to my LRMs while im in a canyon on the other side of the map thats crying.

LRMs are a valid weapon and boats are difficult to play well. if you doubt that try to play one and youll see youre more often going to find yourself out of range for the lock or out of position and the enemy front line overwhelm you or some light mech(s) is going to chew you up while you cry for help and try to hit it with LRMs point blank. you can be out of sight but you cant hide, everyone sees where the LRMs are coming from. idk how many times i picked apart an inner sphere assault LRM boat from inside the 180m min range, doing anything i want to them while they sit there and take it. LRMs are at least as much skill as clicking m1 to alpha with your laser vomit every 3 seconds, which people seem to think is masterful skills. further LRMs are most effective when teamwork is in play, holding locks, dropping NARCs etc. and team play should be rewarded not punished. so what i drown you in missiles?, my team is working as a team and thats what happens. if my team doesnt work as a team you alpha my CT when i peek for a lock and im hiding with cherry red torso or dead a few minutes into the match. or we drop on solaris and its a hard hustle to not be useless.

i just realised you nerfed the hero osiris, taking away its cap assist, which is the only reason i got it. a mech you sell for mech credits, the currency that costs real $$. i find this angering as its far too common in this game. you gotta stop messing with peoples money.

its one thing to tweak a mech after we buy it to aid in balancing but this is a straight bait n switch. you sold me a 4 wheel drive and then updated it to a 2 wheel drive after its paid for. a balance tweak would be decreasing the cap assist slightly because you find its too powerful and unfair. 20% cap assist on the osiris SE was not OP, i have no idea why youre even nerfing osiris, its rare to see anyone play with it ever, at all in the first place and youre spending hours of your day trying to nerf it. its barely ever used, im sure its not because its too powerful with the cap assist everyone feels like theyre cheating. further you gave the cap assist to another osiris model. so was the whole thing an accident? what the ****** ****** ***** ****** * *** ***** ******** **************** are you ********* god ********* ****** **** doing over there????

i hope you buy an amazing chocolate bar and before you get to take a bite someone comes and swaps it out for a stick of celery and doesnt give you a refund for the bar. may your tears add flavour to your celery stick.

Seriously. Nobody really caps in quick play. Every game mode people just play TDM with extra steps. One or 2 osiris running around capping wasn't breaking the game so not sure why it was removed. Maybe because people said "who cares about cap speed" lol. Since a couple other mechs still have cap speed quirks not sure why they'd drop it. Made it unique rather than ANOTHER ML derper.

It was a huge buff not a nerf, You lose cap speed but now it has some of most dps of any IS light mech. Its like you bought a chocolate bar but the company took your chocolate bar away after you bought it and then gave you a new one that is 100x better, after you took a bite out of the old one already since the hero Osiris has not changed in quite some time iirc.

Maybe, but if he bought it because it was a good combatant with a cap accelerator and they took away the cap accelerator, I can see him being upset. Its still a worthy combatant, but it no longer does that other thing he bought it for.

you can kill things way better with it now, but you're concerned that you'll have to stand in a square doing nothing for slightly longer?

I do not post to the forums very often, but this latest patch in regards to LRMs specifically has me really upset.

I have been using LRMs for many years, and the nerfs to the ballistic arcs and velocity just to promote a feature that was previously optional makes me angry. TL;DR- LRMs are no longer different from ATMs.

I made two videos elaborating on my opinions (as opposed to walls-of-text here Posted Image). It is better to show than to say!
