I can hear it now.

" Light mechs OP. "

" Just shoot it, you have more guns than they weigh."

Except that, you know, that's completely untrue - most clan lights have more guns than my IS assaults.

They have more guns, yes.

A King crab will have less weapon systems in total than a Piranha. But it's two main cannons, plus ammo, is the total mass of an Arctic Cheetah.

Were Lights truly best in class, Heavies and Assaults wouldn't be the most populated.

Honestly, I feel that a pseudo-Melee fight can be adapted into MWO... it's just an invisible 5-meter flamer damage, with mech arm animation...

and the damage dealt depends on the arm bolt-on (!)

Melee would be horrible to adapt into MWO. It's a nostalgic holdover from the TT game where everyone remembers smashing a fist through someone's cockpit.

Why is it bad? First of all, all the mechanics behind it would need to be adapted (e.g., a new weapon with 2m range). What's really bad though would be the actual function. Remember all those times you run into teammates or targets and clip around, bounce off, warped, get stuck? That's the game's collision meshes at work. It's already janky and glitchy and deliberately implementing a higher damage version of it is asking to incentivize that clipping/glitching even more. Hard pass.

if it is fun at MW5, why would it be wrong to have it at MWO? it only make so much sense, beside PGI would run a lot of playtest to make sure it is fun. it would be the biggest game changer this game would see in a long time....thought it will probably suck for lights if trying to punch something that isnt another light, but it doesnt matter, lights have plenty going for them already.

PGI attempted something similar with knockdowns, but it was abused heavily. Not everyone in MWO has a mature mindset. Melee would be abused as well. Imagine some petty-minded player on your team using melee to punch the weapon systems out of you because you didn't get out of their away or a childish teammate using melee to teamkill you for the "lulz". It's just not worth the risk to put in the game.

I already explained why.... in MWO collisions are glitchy due to collision meshes. That's not the case in MW5. On top of that, a playtest? The last time we had a public test server was for the new skill tree in 2022. Somehow, I don't think we're about to get another. It's literally not worth it and not worth the potential griefing aggravation from glitchy melee.

Decent quirks. But how long will it be before the super comp players and/or the Cauldron complain about them being OP because lesser pilots actually pose some kind of threat? And make the typical excuse of "Oh well I can get 3000 damage in a match and absolutely stomp with it. It's waaay OP!" Yea...you do that already. So instead of rofl stomping a team into the ground you stomp them a little deeper into the ground?
"Well then everyone will pilot it." And? Nothing has really changed. Its still an even playing field. Tier 4's and 5's are used to getting stomped. It just makes Tier 3 on up more competitive. If you're truly great then you can counter it no matter who is piloting it. People will get bored with the build eventually and move on to something else.
"So they can just set stupidly OP quirks?" You think PGI is THAT dumb? Especially by now? They test this stuff before release and aren't going to be so incredibly stupid and incompetent that they'll give a light mech +50 armor and +50 structure in the center torso. They are going to set quirks in some basis of reality. And I normally don't defend PGI. But they aren't THAT dumb.
"But it'll chase away players and new players." That's already happened. And will continue to happen no matter whats done at this point. We're not attracting new players to make any kind of meaningful impact anytime soon. That's the reality. I'm not saying do whatever the hell we want though. The community isn't THAT small. I play a pvp game with a community of less than 100 people. So God forbid you have to EARN a win and take a hit to your stats. And that includes ME as well. Also I have never noticed any real differences in match outcomes with mechs with "OP" quirks or not. And don't give me the statistics or math. People will feel what they feel. And since that it is a sizeable amount of players it has to be addressed on a more personal level. People aren't going to think about the friggin' math or read these forums. That same consequential and sizeable group of players contribute into keeping this game ALIVE too.
Besides if a Tier 3 attacks me with an originally stat'ed Scaleshot and I'm a Tier 1 I might get annoyed. I may even swear up a storm on Discord. And I may even ragequit the match. But dammit I'm gonna take the hit and come back and fight it because I love this game so much. I'm sure you feel the same way as well but I'm expressing a perspective that you may not ever have taken into account. I'm only passionate because I love the game.

And since I know I've kicked the virtual hornet nest on these forums before don't respond with too many sarcastic remarks, insults, condescension and mean spirited disagreements please. I play this game and have opinions too.
