no it was just another equally unimaginative meta build instead.

In what reality is a King Crab with rocket launcher 20's, machine guns, and flamers a meta? Because i saw that today.

No, he's right, it's a garbage map made by the same brain trust that gave us the original Polar Highlands, which in the end needed a complete rework, just like Boreal Reach does. Coverless rolling hills, and standing on opposite sides of the map, sniping away at each other with the high mounts on Stone Rhinos, and Blood Asps is boring, **** play.

While it is true that Boreal favours mid to long range builds with good hill peek profiles, you need to remember it was put into a game mode designed around map bans. If a player was in a brawl mech didn't want to play Boreal they could just ban it, just like a player who might be in a ranged mech could ban Caves. In EQ the map is fixed, so a player can choose a mech they think is best suited for the map, or they can play Quick Play while they wait for the next map.

Boreal is unlikely get get any kind of rework as it is only used in EQ and private lobbies, it is what it is

For what it's worth, stone rhinos and blood asps aren't that good on Boreal, you see their torsos rise above the hill long before they can actually shoot you. I had great success in War Emu (good mounts / hitboxes / survivability), Bullsharks (excellent mounts / survivability), Annis (good hitboxes / survivability), EXEs (great mounts for poptarting), and Dires (seven AC5 glass CT)

boreal meta was varied for mid-long range i was able to do well with 5 gauss gausszilla blc stalker dakka anni etc and there is liao jungle and ishiyama caves for brainless w keying and hiding in ditches with brawlers

If you think Ishiyama's all about walk forward while firing, you're a very unimaginative player. I actually had to change my skill layout to unlock seismic sensors, and pop UAVs on that map. It's a map for stalk and counter stalk; finding a niche and waiting for your opponent to walk by before springing an ambush.

If anything BoringReal is the map of walking forward mindlessly while vomiting blue lasers at each other. nothing but fire and counter fire; bonehead, and braindead sniper play. The smartest thing I'd seen on that entire map was one guy who used jumpjets to get on the roof of the arena elevator for a completely unobstructed view of the entire map before cutting loose with the blue pew pew.

hiding and waiting for your enemy for the first shot is what makes caves brainless you dont have to put in any effort approaching with a brawl mech and there is no places on the map to play from for example on steiner i've played with the onion against receive mechs and it was fun because of the approach or when i do brawl mech mirror 1v1s on steiner cause there is rocks and structures to play around instead of just spam jjs and masc if you have it and twist while shooting at 100m simulator that caves is boreal becomes interesting when you realize there is a lot more to trading with dakka mechs and hill peekers than just standing still

yeah this event trash because it just devolves into leggin the opponent with multiple srms and cheese the way to victory it's not really worth the annoyance, let alone fun.

Cackles madly in flamer punish

But ultimately yes. You're playing a slower version of 1v1 twitch shoot squishy human game, where you have more than just "Headshot" and "Not Headshot".

There will ultimately be some level of stale repetition where this is one ideal consistent build if you focus entirely on "Me want to win game", regardless of the weight class.

Fortunately a match score of 50 is fairly simple to achieve, so the win isn't critical to progress.

I tried it out today, kept telling myself that 'this is the last one'. I regret missing out on the assault bracket now. Very quick, good pay, decent variety. I was just grabbing mechs out of my collection to play rather than building anything specific, and had a good time anyway.

I just had an interesting experience. Guy DCed as the mechs are going up to the battlefield and is shown as DEAD from match start. I can't find his mech, and the match timer is just happily counting down.

Update:
I waited out the match timer. It resulted in a TIE. With a dead mech. And it just happened a second time with a different player. He said it simply kicked him back to the loading screen and telling him "your loadout is invalid"... which makes sense since his mech joined dead. And it also blocks you from queueing up yourself because the game insists on counting down the timer. Not cool.

Ah man the Red Reaper is such a pain in the *** to brawl against. XD

Got 80 assault matches in, and 100 heavy so far. Won about 70%.

Made an absolute mint. Still up about 10 million despite buying three Bullsharks for comp, and a third Summoner chassis for funsies, and adjusting a dozen builds on older mechs.

Been running LB10X/LB20X + SRMS, ot dakka builds most. The trick is closing the distance. Which is made easier since more people running longer range builds seem to run right at me instead of keeping their distance.

Yeah, it's pretty effective. That said, if an opponent can aim around the shield, and you can, it often doesn't end well for me. Posted Image
AC2 boats are difficult if the player knows how to aim.

You guys saw REAPERS?

Heavies have almost entirely consisted of SRM Summoners and AC20+SRM Orions for consistent winners.

Fought four so far, won three times. One guy was super irritating so I removed both his torsos before I killed him. I was in either the Summoner or AC20+SRM Orion or 2×LB10X×SRM Orion IIC.

I've also dropped in a 2xUAC10+3ERML Hellbringer, a LB20X+SRM Splat Dog, an LB20X+SRM Timber Wolf, the laser vom Timber Wolf, 5xMXPL Thunderbolt, 4xAC5 Cataphract, and 4xAC5 Warhammer. The SRM builds tend to be more successful. The maps are small and if someone wants to saunter on over into your face, there's not a lot you can do if they do it right. SRMs are just better at the job.

Yeah AC2 boats are irritating if the pilots are good. There are also machinegun Crusaders out there that can just dismember you so fast.
