I thought it would be the Nova that would be doing things for me in the caves, but no, surprisingly it's the Lacerator with 2 LBX10 and 2 flamers that has been the MVP on that map for me.

Edit: And now it seems that a cheesedick build for the bushwacker has been found, 4 MG (that are doing 2 DPS each due to quirks), and 3 Rocket 20's to crack you torso wide open, all while moving over 90kph. I'm seeing fresh to dead in less than 3 seconds. Event was fun while it lasted.

I think we played a couple, you cooked me good but I think I finally got you with my TBT-LG, got another flamer mech with my LG on my last match, had to make a strategy of flying high enough with jj's backing off then hitting hard and jumping over to keep from getting cooked, a lot of fun GG's

I'm finding Novas to be a cursed prospect in the Steiner Arena.

Oddly enough the Steiner arena was where I had MOST success in that Flamer/MG/MicroP build! It just took a bit of tactical play to get the opponent in close and 9 out of 10 times it went in my favour.

i did ok in mine, i run it with 1 S.B. Guass and 3 MLs.

That was the same build I ran with and it did really well for me in Mech Factory and Boreal. Not tried it in the jungle yet. Got so fed up with all the SRM cheese I went and bought the KTO-18 specifically to dish out some mega quirked SRM cheese. Made my c-bills back in less than an hour and then some.

If you can't beat the cheese, feast on it instead Posted Image

On Liao Jungle:

I was pleasantly surprised how effective my Hunchback-4SP was with 2xASRM6 and 5xSL. Relatively tanky with fast recycle times for the weapons takes out legs pretty quickly.

The Arctic Wolf-P was pretty good too with 6xMPL, and other than the HBK-4SP, about the only mech that wasn't meh with lasers.

It's nice to see mechs that are sub par in QP actually be useful for a change.

One more mech to skill up then it's on to the light mech event.

Good hunting,
CFC Conky

Liao jungle's kicking me in the shins as a speedy Cicada.

As in, all of my deaths have been because everyone can aim SRMs at my legs consistently, with my speed and jump ability providing very little in terms of benefit.

This one feels like it's the map where you want big burst damage up close and just tank it out. No opportunities to escape or juke guns with superior speed.

Or I've been encountering exclusively people who have much better gunnery than I have piloting.

Minor addendum that there's 2 pilots I encountered running Shadowcats all with an APGauss + 2x PAC8 Build. Both of them scarily surgical at component isolation, and either really good at juking my aim, or for whatever reason I instantly become terrible at shooting SPECIFICALLY at Shadowcats.

I'd very much like to see what their cockpit views look like.

I ran into a couple of those. Very dangerous builds!

So now I'm looking at what light mechs to use for the final phase of the event. I have a feeling it will be a leg-fest (leg-feast? Posted Image )

Same here, here's looking at you streaks! Going to start off guns blazing and sacrifice some speed for firepower. Chosen the KFX with 2x SSRM6, 4x HMG and 4x μP. No ECM or jets but it's the lack of torso armour quirks that may hurt most.

I reckon I'll be 2 or 3 matches most before I'm back to the drawing board Posted Image

Yeah, i remember those matches, I managed to win the first, and you got me in the second hands down. Both were great fights!

Warthog is going to be popular especially with AP-Gauss, as well as the Jenner IIC with SRM6 x6, Arctic Cheetahs, and Commando/Javelins boating RL-20s.

Personally i'm looking forward to taking out my Christmas Zombie Commando from two years ago, with 5 energy hardpoints between the torso and head.

ECM maybe, but full on stealth armor? No way, with all the flamers used in S7 stealth armor turns your mech into an EZ-Bake Oven.

Considering how people can and will completely miss mechs standing in the open because a dorito doesn't appear, I'd believe it.

Ishiyama made me put BAP on because someone would stand perfectly still as I ran around looking for them.

Kit Fox D is a solid brawler, great quirks.

Cougar with 5xSPL and 3xSRM6 is solid (possibly use Artimis, I haven't tuned it for 1vs1, but in 2vs2 it did great without artimis).

Cougar F might be good too with stock omnipods if you like ap-gauss.

PPFLD is looking to be the overwhelming winner right now in the light game.

Raven 4Xs/ Firestarters/Urbies with Snubs and Magshots, Adders and Cheetahs with APG if you value mobility or raw firepower more.

Panthers can try deadsiding with an LFE to not instantly kick the bucket, but you'd have to do the math if you do more on paper with quirks, and then factor in how large of a hitbox you have.

Can't use lock ons, because people will dip back into cover after shooting you, invalidating your turn to shoot. Obviously no LRMs or ATMs here, unless you encounter that one in a million guy running a stock urbie who cannot contest your positioning.

Can't use burn time heavier weapons, because of the same. In the event you DO get em, you'll drag a laser across the body, while they put 20~ damage in a side torso.

Tried running a RL100 Firestarter. My aim's too shaky to actually land them on moving targets. Might work, but it also relies on your opponent being lobotomized and unable to find a non-ECM light, so not a great hand to bet on.

And because all fights happen in the 300m range, with mechs that all move at around the same speed and extra agility, you're not doing anything longer than that and walking away winning.

FS9-A with all SXPulse or SRM lights have yet to show up, funnily enough. Looks like everyone thought the same thing and went all in on APG/Magshot.
SRM Jenner IIC is a no go. Spread is dogwater even with CSRM2s, and anything more exacerbates the issue beyond head on, point blank. Can't use this thing in dogfights with any real reliability. In theory you CAN slap someone with a full brace of 6x6, but by the time you do 2 of those you're overheating and need to have killed or crippled the enemy enough to get away. Really makes me wish for Thunderbolt SRMs or something.

I tried the Firestarter with SXPulses, too much staring time to be effective imo and I found SPLs to be better.

SRM bombers are pretty much easy mode, I had a lot of success with the Jenner-IIC and Cougar-F with them.

Warthogs are easy-mode as well on mech factory.
