into play. It will keep those who need the best of everything to win at bay. Those with any combat skills know
how to win just a paper clip and rubber band.

In the last interview, Russ said he was initially resisted the label of MMO but not any more. He said that MWO does have some MMO characteristics such as persistent universe and being all multiplayer online.
To me MMO means what it technically means, massively multiplayer online but its a very broad term. People then assume things like persistent world with thousands of players sharing the game space, instances and missions, role play features, and social gaming which MMO doesnt really imply.
Imo, MWO will be a MMO-IPVP-PU.. MMO with Instanced Player vs Player battles, Persistent Universe with an unfolding timeline. Doesnt sound like its going to have massive game space shared by hundreds or thousands of players, or social-based features. It will have some roleplay features based on factions but not like character classes with missions.
Think Ill make this a topic.
ok...i am understanding it better now.
i was thinking for some odd reason that they were finally going to make mechwarrior actually resemble the mechwarrior rpg with battletech mech battles.
in reality it is going to be something like megamek/mekwars with 3d graphics but with a more arcade feel and less sim.
thats kool i can deal with that.

Just my thoughts on it.

Personally I hope they deep six the Jihad timeline, or at the very least tone it down. While the a lot of the new equipment is awesome and I hope we can get it when the time comes, so much of the storyline goes beyond the ability to suspend disbelief and in the end it's an excuse to justify the lameness that is Dark Ages.

No...It's more a sim and less arcade...the RPG elements are purely tied into maximising your use of your mech, and I think they will be role specific, perhaps.
I can assure you, it will be nothing like Megamek, which is an online computer based version of the TT.
This? This. is. MECHWARRIOR!!!!!!

megmek is a top down sim of the TT.- i know i played it for years
mekwars is a wrap-a-round for mm that gives the server host the ability to make factions, create a map of planets, a hangar, a lobby for chatting(global, faction,rp, private, etc) rp, and match-making.
pretty much all you need to make MM into a persistent world mmo-sim of battletech
(i know this because i helped develop and host a few of the servers in that community)
so i do assure you, MWO sounds alot like MM/MW but with as i said 3d graphics and more arcade less sim.

The tabletop/MegaMek aren't simulations, they're board games. Where strangely enough most mechs have a hard time hitting each other at ridiculously close ranges. Now because of the nature of dice rolling its fun. I love both those games, but just about anything realtime is more of a simulation than a turn based, chance based game. I think if you can wrap your head around what it takes to translate the board game to a real time game you have to make some concessions in "realism" and exact translation to make it playable and fun in real time.

Yeah, the whole Jihad timeline is when I pretty much stopped paying any attention to Battletech. Although I read one novel of the Dark Ages series in order to give it a chance, then read up on the background to the Dark Ages, and basically assumed that the Battletech universe was dead, at least so far as I was concerned. Give me classic BT and I'll even take the uneven quality of the Clans, but past that, please give me the option to not play with that tech/timeline.

I am betting that this will be the way it is, but I don't know if it will be in the frequency that LoL does it. The models for LoL are fairly basica but these mechs will be full 3D and have cockpits and a variety of different animations.
Hopefully we get packs of 4 or more mechs at a time every couple of months.

MW4 is not "the Mechwarrior" game for true fans
well. all this high-tech stuff of MW4 came 3067 or later in the lore. there wont be Railguns, RAC, or MRMs for long time.
Before the Clan Invasion 3050, there were no Pulse Lasers, ER Lasers, S-SRM, MRM, Gauss, ER-PPC or LB-X AC. just Laser, PPC, AC, SRM and LRM. thats it and it was good

There are pulse lasers. There are ER lasers (at least large) there are streak SRM, There is gauss, There is LBX. All available (though how available <and in what sizes> is a different matter) in 3049
So explain to me again what a "true fan" is?
