It appears to be just a couple Smoke Jaguars who take a skewed view of the source material, don't worry too much. The sourcebooks are canon.

Awwww do not be hating Dihm. I agree the sourcebooks are canon, I just agree that there are things in them that were not storyline true but canon true (yeah wrap your brain around that)

Also I just like to present the other side.

Hmm I was hoping for enlightenment but it looks like most people cant agree on the true backstory... not a good start.
I guess I will just have to read and make up my own opinion for myself

Sorry for mucking up your thread but when these guys started posting with a serious IS slant something had to be done...it is up to the Clans to save this thread!

Anyway your comment is really the best, read them all and then form your own opinion, it is the most sage thing to do. Plus then you really feel like the universe is yours.

To the OP, welcome to Battletech. I hope you brought a flame-retardant suit, because things can get a little heated.

Clans, especially Smoke Jaguar, honorable? Seriously? The Clanners are nothing but a bunch of Neo-Facist Nietzsche Wannabes. The Jaguars are among the worst, their leaders are simply a bunch of blood-thirsty war-mongers. The clan's 'great leader' Leo Showers was directly responsible for orchestrating the Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere and is also directly and indirectly responsible for god knows how many deaths, and for what? The only sad thing about his death was that a far better person had to die to kill him.

Keep raving about how much 'better' and 'more honorable' the Clans are. Go ahead. It's clear nothing I nor anyone else can or will say will change your mind.

The facts are these: The Clans practice eugenics(great big red flag here, folks). In Clan culture, if you are'nt a 'Trueborn' warrior, you are undeserving of having a surname to remember your family and heritage by. The Clans claim moral superiority by not fighting wars, instead they practice a twisted bloodsport that has killed countless numbers of their own. The Clans knowingly disregard tactics and strategies that can and have brought swift and desicive victory.

In short: Clans are the kind of aberation the Nazis would be proud of(oh yeah, I went there.). 'Superior' 'Trueborn' 'Warriors' are worthy of nothing but my contempt. I have pity and sympathy for the people oppressed by Clan society, but unfortunately, like any good facist society, there is stockholm-syndrome on such a massive scale among these people that there is'nt much that can be done for them.

As for YOU!

Clan Smoke Jaguar is one of the more honorable clans, but you measure honor differently, we measure in waste and tradition...you measure in...well I cannot say but I am sure it is different. But believe it or not the reason the clans invaded was not only to fulfill our promise but to liberate the people of the Star League from the sham governments that pretend to work for their benefit.

That is all I will say as I am pretty sure you are a lost cause, just wanted you to know that I saw it and was not trying to subtly dodge it. I am just downright ignoring it. Oh and by the way vehement responses like yours are what we anticipated in our invasion which is why we needed to invade...it is not like we were going to convince you to stop behaving like feudal empires. It needed to be beat out of you and your people.

Dont get discouraged Comm, just put on your flame proof suit and dont remove it while walking in these forums. Walls of flame will come from the smallest questions becuase some one mis-interpeted it or applied the wrong point in the timeline too it.

There are lots of sources out there, from the books, to the wiki, to the fan made cast-offs. Read em all, shoot em all, have fun with it all. Big robots with guns and lots of explosions. That is the core of the game, everything else is window dressing.

Simply the truth.

Read them all, they are well worth the read.

What we need is Randall Bills to chime in on how much propaganda they put into the sourcebooks. We have one of the perfect people available to settle this!

Now we just need to lure him into the discussion.

So I'm a long time MechWarrior fan, got in at MechWarrior 2 Mercs been a fanatic since. Anyways its been a LONG time tho since I dived back into this universe so I wanted to do a lore refresher (cause there is a lot). By that I mean reread some old books and play some of my old MW games I have stashed around.

So point is give me a place to start. What is your absolute favorite MW/Battletech book/s? I personally love anything from the clan invasion but I just want some outside opinions. Give me some book recommendations. So I can decide on things like faction choices

Nerding out so hard right now reading everything about this game can't wait I'm even digging out my old MW cards and doing a few mock games LOL. Thanks in advance.

If any foreign force attempts to impose its own system of government on Kesal IV or indeed any Federated Suns territory then I for one will fight those invaders in any and everyway possible!

I would start with "Lethal Heritage" because that particular storyline starts in 3049. MWO is calling the game's date today January 10th, 3049, and it would seem that the "Blood of Kerensky Trilogy" is the perfect place to start.

The Warrior trilogy is great as well if you want to get some background or just want to get in to the earlier stuff. I just started the Gray Death Saga the other day but it's shaping up to be a good one too.

We are not invaders, we merely want to restore the Star League so you can all live without the fear of another Succession War.

Lethal Heritage is the first part of the Blood of Kerensky Trilogy.

Anyway, those books will give you a good idea of what's coming for next 3 or so years.

I think the Warrior trilogy and the Kurita books(dont know the english names now) would be the best to start with to get the perfect atmosphere when MWO comes out.

Sorry these two statements are the biggest pile of BS I have heard in a long time. War is an extension of politics by other means. So if you were living in cloud cuckoo land these might be true and if clanner society was perfect and every was equal and happy (and no clanners all your people are not happy in case you thought otherwise) then they might benefit humanity - but same story - people trying to cover conquest with high ideals and moral high horsedness (not sure that is a word but it sums up what i mean). If this was true and you wanted to help why are you all not wardens?

Anyone have a listing of the books and where they fit in the timeline? Granted I haven't done a LOT of searching, but I haven't noticed one yet.

I have an urge to go back through my stacks and read them in chronological (BT Universe, not publish date) order.

Besides, wouldn't towing the Wolf political line be disagreeing with the invasion? :P

That should work, I can cobble something together with that. Really puts into perspective how little the books covered the Succession Wars, that's sad. :P

And I had NO clue there were that many Dark Age books!

It has some flaws both gameplay and lore wise, but it is still Battletech. :P
