I remember creating a Timberwolf in Mechwarrior 2 that had 8 ERPPCs and no heatsinks. I'm on the first mission and line up a shot on another mech and pull the trigger. My Timberwolf goes up in a massive ball of fire, but I wouldn't want to be that guy that just got hit with 8 ERPPCs either.

Also in mech 2 I was clicking on the remove heatsink button again and again without looking on a Firemoth and when I looked up I had -30 Heatsinks! I had a Firemoth that had infinate tonnage available. Neadless to say I imediatly maxed out the engine, put some jumpjets on and loaded that bad boy down with 4 Clan Ultra AC20s. The first mission I start the mech immediatly over heats and shuts down. Ok, I let it shut down, a few seconds later it exploded. Even shut down that thing was overheating so bad it exploded. I figured out I had barely enough time to type in the invulnerability code before the mech self destruced and then I had a jumping Firemoth with 4 CUAC-20s.

One of my favorite custom mechs that I've seen other people make is the Flying Trashcan, an Urbanmech with max improved jumpjets on a low grav world. The gravity is low enough that it goes flying through the air.

In MekTekMercs, I created a Mech called "Hell", which was a Daishi fitted with the heat-generating missiles that also hit for 8, a Plasma Cannon, 4 Clan Flamers and 6 LMGAs. It was possible to lockdown two enemy mechs simultaneously in Solaris if they were close enough together and not in water. Had some punch with the Plasma Cannon, but not enough.

Then there was the "Sabre Saw", a Daishi outfitted with 3 Continuous Lasers and 2 UAC2s (not clan, the IS versions had 0.25 less reload time). Could melt down stationary Solaris mechs within seconds at long range, but again, not enough crunch power for infighting and it's tough to circle-o-death something with constant contact.

There's been a few famous crazy designs in past MW games. I recall a guy with the handle of BuzzLiteBeer using a flamer Puma to destroy everything in his path in MW3. I think he won the MS ZONE tourny with it. Also in MW3 a machinegun only Shadowcat was interesting. For some reason the machineguns exhibited no lag. In a UA game you could run around shooting the MG's at exactly what you wanted to hit without lag and kill mechs quickly.

But, the silliest mech I ever used was a Vulture in MW4 with all HE's installed. It was used for king of the hill matches where you'd wait until all your enemies were tightly packed on the "hill" then walk up and detonate yourself taking all of them with you. That was a riot! At kleast until I mistakenly took it in a drop that was just a plain attrition match. That didn't endear me to my teammates. ;)

2 clan er ppc, 2 clan lbx 20's, 1 clan lbx 10, 2 clan streak srm 6's and a clan streak srm4, half armor , no speed or heat sinks on a warhawk, absolutly rocks like hell in urban maps if you can hide ;)

This thread made me stop lurking and post something. Curses!

Back in the day I created a hideously annoying 15 ton 'Mech for an anything goes tabletop game. It went a little something like this:

Spoiler

Dubbed the mosquito for its ability to irritate without causing real damage, and for the fact that it goes splat if it sits still for very long. I made liberal use of lateral movement and the "Hull Down" maneuver, and essentially hid until I won initiative, and then would streak out long enough to take a pot shot at an enemy 'Mech. Its effectiveness was only overshadowed by its ability to annoy.

I had a friend that also made a Machinegun boat with 12 or so machine guns and 2 hatchets with a MASC system, we always thought he was a moron though. A system I used in either MW2 or 3, can't remember was all ER Medium lasers, used that till one day a light mech came up to me, hit me with a few flamers (didnt see that) and when I hit the Alpha Strike thinking I was going to do a lot of damage, I blew up in a large mushroom cloud. took the light mech with me though.

I remember the negative heatsinks glitch! LOL, I though it was just me. Not only was it inifinate tonnage, but also no heat generation ;-)

Other craziest build I've tried is an Annihilatior with a quad CLBXAC20 build. Horrifically slow and short ranged, but unrivaled firepower and armor. Enough to litterally blast even an Atlas or Daishi onto it's *** and with a very well placed shot, even blast it's reactor out in one alpha strike. There is no other possible mech or build ever created that could defeat it in a dueling arena. Ever. It's not physically possible.

I refute your claim! I just built an Annihilator with 4 Clan Gauss Rifles... I know it packs less Alpha-Punch as your LBX Annihilator, but it can Punch to 800 meters! I could slug you two or three times with all 4 rifles before you could close the gap... muwahahahaha

Took a Puma, stripped everything - weapons, armour, speed, heatsinks to fit in 2 Clan LBXAC20's.
Worthless out in the field, but Solaris didn't know what hit it.

Im suprised nobody mentioned the Kraken (Bane)

100 Tons
10- UAC/2's
4 - MG's

Now thats just silliness... especially being a published Clan 'Mech!

I had a few TT designs that kind of broke the mold. The first was a Sniper Artillery piece on an UrbanMech. Couldn't go hardly anywhere but it could hit damn near everything.

The other design I made I called "Mirror Mirror". It was a 70 ton Warhammer variant that I basically made the front and back look identical (like two warhammers back to back). The arms didnt have lower actuators so I could flip them and its torso armor was spread evenly between the front and rear torsos. Also the torso weapons were split evenly front to rear. I'd walk the 'Mech into the game backwards (though appearing like it was frontwards) and fight normally until my opponent was just starting to wear down my armor. Just when they thought they were winning, I'd turn around bringing around fresh armor and weapons.

I came up with this design as I was frankenmeching some junk warhammer minis I had. As you can see in the pics, the front andback are two warhammer fronts. I put a little pin in the waist so I could spin the upper half around. (appoligies for the poor pic quality, cell phone cameras still have a little bit to go)

I didn't end up playing it much so I don't really know how well it worked.

Mad Cat II for Solaris matches in MW4: Mercenaries. I stripped the missiles, lasers, 3 tons of armor, and the jump jets, boosted the speed to to something like 86 kph, and the sole armament was Rotary AC/5 in each arm with as much ammo as they could fit. :)

Sillyest config huh? Ok, playing a MWL match ping test, I used a mech(don't remember the chasis, might have been a longbow) fully loaded with nothing but flares(it was some ungodly amount of flares is all I really remember). I ***** you not, I actually got a kill in that ping test with that mech. FLARED TO DEATH

I think I squeezed in 6 (or was that 8) LRM-20s on some assault-sized chassis in MW3. I was so proud of myself at that time. I rode the Mech in one of the missions, and I tried alpha-striking some hapless enemy with my monstrosity...

...and my Mech exploded. D:

I have a tendency to take things that other people say are useless, pointless, or stupid and try to figure out how to make them reconsider their point of view. :D There are several instances I can recall at the MTG table, but this is not a thread about that. ;) Anyway, I was sitting at our local area gaming place, and some people were talking about Battletech. One of them mentioned that the Machine Gun was a stupid weapon, and that nobody would ever use one because it was worthless against a Mech. He went on to say that any design from the TRO's that had MG's on it, people just took them off and replaced them with SL, or HS, or Armor...etc. I thought about this for awhile and realized he was right. That was exactly what most people did.

When I got home I decided to construct a Mech based entirely on Machine Guns. I went with a Clan tech medium Mech with MASC a Targetting computer max armor and as many MG's as I could fit into it. I dubbed it the Gattlin', and I took to the next FFA Battletech game at the shop, where I ran from one Mech to the next using MASC to raise my target number to be hit and opened up with all the MG's targetting a leg. (I know. Not very Clan like. But I was trying to prove a point about Machine Guns. :P ) After several amputations The game was called and I was asked to not put that Mech on the board again. Apparently I had upset some people, but I believe a made a case for MG's not being stupid and useless against a Mech.
