Thats alright with me, but you will remember it when you smack with your jenner into an obstracle at 100+ mph, because you aimed for an enemy and were not looking in the direction you were moving. Often.

I cant wait to destroy the people who lack the situational awareness that is required to play FFP.

So... poor piloting. That's why we have the mechwarrior academies, of course, some factions seem to graduate people who are not really... how can I say this?... 'The Right Stuff' ;-)

P.S. Jenner doesn't move that fast, speeds are in kilometres per hour.

Also on personal note I have to add that the games I play from fixed 1st person view add immensely to the paranoia of self and makes you keep checking that backside more often not just in case something has managed to squigle its way behind you.

Remember, it is those who take you from the rear that you need to watch you for. :D

as per Paul

MechWarrior Online is being designed to put you the player in the seat of the pilot. It is 100% first person view only. Being the pilot is one of our key design pillars and 3rd person breaks that pillar on multiple levels as seen in many of the other 3rd Person discussions.

We will investigate 3rd person in the far off distance for special game settings, but this is very far off in the distance.

While we appreciate those who enjoy 3rd person, MWO will be 1st person out of the gate and in the near future.

I hope they put in 3rd person view, I suffer from severe motion sickness and can't handle rapid turning in first person, especially in fast mechs.

Look up the term "occlusion" sometime. In modern 3d engines, it is hell to program

They won't. Did you not read the developer statements?

Third Person View in past MW titles was just a way to get around certain game mechanics. Explosions blocking your view? No problem 3rd PV. Mech got behind you? No problem, 3rd PV. Can not see around that building? No problem 3rd PV. Its just away to dumb down and make it easier to pilot a mek while avoiding all those things that you should be dealing with. Why is it people want things to be easy all the time? How is it even remotely fun? The new gaming generation ( and some of the old ) I just dont understand. Sometimes not winning can be a fun, and a positive experience. Dont try to simplify ever thing, or go play CoD.

I agree that the forced 1st person viewpoint adds a lot to the game in regards to the immersion and especially the possibility to surprise players. Also, down the development road, the devs can play around with, in my opinion, cool gadgets that give you other perspectives outside your mech. So I think it's a good decision for MechWarrior Online not to have the option of 3rd person view as a default camera.

in no way imho is a view out side of the mech enhancing immersion, as we are supposed to be inside the mech piloting it.

for people who complained they suck at 1st person view mech battle....

practice that in mechwarrior 4. you have a week if you're a founder package buyer.

You are absolutely right, I mixed 1st and 3rd viewpoint in my original post...

i see Adar, all good :) only time I think 3rd person perspective would be worth while: personal replays from a 'tv' camera that watched the match. even then, its iffy

I only played with third person overhead view in the other mech versions.
I need it bad cause I suc at battles.

maybe I can relearn the game?

one thing you can do is replay any of the old games you have and just use the internal view
also lets you get a rough idea of control setups and relearn the verse a bit
plus those games are fun may i recommend #4 mercs

All it takes is bit of practice and paying attention to you instruments and there is no problem. The only thing you. Old possibly gain from third person view is seeing around corners or seeing things that you can't see from your cockpit.
I personally prefer first person and think that if thay add third person it would harm the game.

Use a drone for optional 3rd person view, make it equipable and take up space/weight in the mech. I mean we're talking about a world/techlevel where a 4 user wireless network takes up one ton per client and even more for the server/router.

3rd person players can play the way they're used to without getting a direct edge over first person players, as they have to sacrifice some loadout for it.

No 3rd person view, thank you. It just would not fit in a competitive game like this, it would kill some elements in the game like checking your back and sides. And thoese lighter mechs would have a lot harder time sneaking up on heavier mechs.

Yeah, add third person view to let everyone zoom out and see what's happening behind you, making light mechs useless. Pathetic noobs.
