So...

Octopus => Octopi
Cactus => Cacti
Radius => Radii
Hippopotamus => Hippopotami

How about anu$? It's a latin word right? If you saw more than one, would they be anii?

It's one Atlas

or several Atlers

But to avoid confusion because they sound the same, we say Atlai.

I do agree with your suggestion though. However, if someone in my team says "atli" or some variation thereof, I will use "atlases" in every way imaginable, just to irritate them.

Funny I was thinking the same thing but use "atli" instead.

I had no idea Aluminum had two spellings.

I didn't come to learn anything and yet I did. Drat. :)

I just like to call it 'Alum' because it's greek and has magical healing powers.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but plural of octopus is not really octopi.

Actually the proper plural for an octopus is octopuses. Octopi is an acceptable alternate, but not the traditional plural form.

Cutlas is from the latin word cultellus and its plural ending is still -es.

if you look at this word closely you will see it is formed of 2 words, at, and lases, while both are 2 words, atlai are indeed NOT lases as you can tell by their physiology.

This is true, but when you examine the epidemiology of the precognizant of atlai, you see a disparagement between the "a" and "t", implying a strong affinity for batholytic evolution, which clearly leads us to conclude that "atlases" is indeed the way to go.

i always treated mech names as adjectives and resurted to using a number followed by the name instead of i.e. three atlas instead of three atlases

however with that said, there are some instances where the "S" plural makes more sense, but I'm not about to correct people in the middle of a battle as it's highly distracting.

You take into consideration that Atlai believe in Evolution my good sir! and let us not turn this into a fight of religous beliefs or a lack thereof, but rather a belief, in Atlai!

Indeed this is more complex a subject than either of us had ever imagined! I need time to ponder....

Do you propose calling the next Atlas you see "Butch"?
