I usually "like" it when people contribute to this thread. It's a little way of being supportive without clogging it with more text. Of the last two schemes you posted the camo scheme was superior (but a little boring?) and the Remnant scheme was a bit "loud" (a little desaturation here and there can help) but not bad. As for others, I'd have to go back and look at them.
I would encourage you to keep doing both, just for the sake of variety.

Are there many templates available? I have the spider and I will of course look back through the thread, I just wondered if anyone had the links more readily to hand.
Brilliant work so far

Edit: How do I make the paint look desaturated in some sections? I am after all still very new at this.

Well, it depends on how you've put the image together. Basically, if using photoshop (not sure about GIMP) you select the area you want to desaturate, go to IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>HUE/SATURATION. This will bring up a tool that allows you to precisely control just how much saturation there will be. There are other tools as well, but this is the most consistent one.

In GIMP, you can free select (lasso) the area you want to adjust, then select Color -> Hue/Saturation
Edit: Hayden posted right before me while I was typing.

Nice job on the arctic camo, IMO. I'm working on my first attempt at camo right now, painting an Atlas in MARPAT. It ain't pretty lol.

I can see where there might be some confusion, since the 'mech is a shade of green. The St. Ives Expeditionary Group paints it's machines dark green while highlighting certain panels in the gray-green of most units in the St. Ives AC. The shoulders of the 'mechs are painted gold*, representative of the volunteers from the 1st St. Ives Lancers who make up the core of the force. The blue-white striping is the unit's own and meant to differentiate it from other units in the St. Ives AC (Such as the Gold of the 1st St. Ives Lancers, Jade of the 2nd St. Ives Lancers, Red and Silver of Raymond's Mounted Infantry, etc). The Expeditionary Group does not use parade schemes, but also eschews traditional camouflage in the field.

When I read 'gold' my first reaction was

Obviously I could re-paint every single panel individually to retain the sense of perspective of a camo pattern against the attitude of the mech but I think that's a little bit much for my patience
