I'm just a bit curious, When you guys like my posts are you liking the mech in full camouflage, the mech with The Remnant color scheme or both?

I usually "like" it when people contribute to this thread. It's a little way of being supportive without clogging it with more text. Of the last two schemes you posted the camo scheme was superior (but a little boring?) and the Remnant scheme was a bit "loud" (a little desaturation here and there can help) but not bad. As for others, I'd have to go back and look at them.

I would encourage you to keep doing both, just for the sake of variety.

BFett, I echo Hayden's sentiments. I'd also say the black sections on the Remnant color is wayyy too dark and takes away from the machine as well.

I've had a brief dalliance with signatures, so now I need to randomly attempt this.

Are there many templates available? I have the spider and I will of course look back through the thread, I just wondered if anyone had the links more readily to hand.

Brilliant work so far :P

Oh.

HUGE list on the first page.

Hush my mouth!

Thanks for the input guys, I'll try experimenting with lighter shades of black that don't cover up the detail beneath it.

Edit: How do I make the paint look desaturated in some sections? I am after all still very new at this.

Well, it depends on how you've put the image together. Basically, if using photoshop (not sure about GIMP) you select the area you want to desaturate, go to IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>HUE/SATURATION. This will bring up a tool that allows you to precisely control just how much saturation there will be. There are other tools as well, but this is the most consistent one.

In GIMP, you can free select (lasso) the area you want to adjust, then select Color -> Hue/Saturation

Edit: Hayden posted right before me while I was typing.

At a second glance, the blue/gold Remnant 'mech makes me think of the Blue Angels.

Ok, first quick attempt as I've been staring at CS2 all day and I think my brain has melted. I've needed a snow camo (no unit specified) Jenner for a sig request and wasn't happy with my previous....*ahem*efforts*ahem*.....so using the template, some layered snow camo patterns, colour replacement and smudging I've come up with this. It's not great (especially compared with some of the brilliant work earlier on) but I think it's a foot in the door:

Nice job on the arctic camo, IMO. I'm working on my first attempt at camo right now, painting an Atlas in MARPAT. It ain't pretty lol.

I can see where there might be some confusion, since the 'mech is a shade of green. The St. Ives Expeditionary Group paints it's machines dark green while highlighting certain panels in the gray-green of most units in the St. Ives AC. The shoulders of the 'mechs are painted gold*, representative of the volunteers from the 1st St. Ives Lancers who make up the core of the force. The blue-white striping is the unit's own and meant to differentiate it from other units in the St. Ives AC (Such as the Gold of the 1st St. Ives Lancers, Jade of the 2nd St. Ives Lancers, Red and Silver of Raymond's Mounted Infantry, etc). The Expeditionary Group does not use parade schemes, but also eschews traditional camouflage in the field.

*non-metallic

When I read 'gold' my first reaction was :D ...and then you had to put in that asterisk!

@BlueDog - You said it!

Obviously I could re-paint every single panel individually to retain the sense of perspective of a camo pattern against the attitude of the mech but I think that's a little bit much for my patience :P I just copied a few jpg's of a snow camo, multiplied them into a few layers, merged the layers and then played around with saturation/colours as the black was too prominent. Adding the extra glow to the weapons and cockpit is just the start before I crop it out for a signature but this topic REALLY makes me wish I had access to more background information on the houses, units and the camo they used.

MARPAT you say? .....Hrrrm.........

Nice work Chap - I like yours better as you've kept the weapon points and other details more defined - I should have gone smaller and less saturated with the colours clearly ^^ Looking forward to seeing yours with insignia on :P
