Flamer is one of those weapons the Devs are really going to need to pay attention to (Aren't they all?)

As one of the other threads showed, the potential for OP is there if someone mounts a lot of flamers on their 'mech. You definitely want it to be useful, without being too OP. I can see plenty of people mounting them on light 'mechs, rushing up to an assualt and firing until shutdown or reactor explosion.

actually under the TT rules - flamers never delivered heat to the enemy mech - they increased heat by 3 points from the firing mech but only 2 damage (NO heat) to the enemy target - They are the worst weapons in the game - the only reason to ever use one was to start fires in wooded hexes!!
Dont know about the ammo part - I know they didnt mention flamers being ammo free which indicates they will use ammo but I havent read anywhere stating they will use ammo - could be wrong there.

I personally think we shold use the houserule my group used - flamers added 1 heat to firing mech (heat transfer from reactor to weapon) but delivered 3 heat & 1 damage to enemy mech - no ammo use. This prevents them from being over used since they still cause a heat buildup - take up space & weight & have a very short range - the increase heat to the enemy is unlikely to be alot due to these reasons

As I stated above they didnt deliver heat to the enemy so the only shutdown would be their own - if you wanted to run behind an assault like that better to use MGs which caused no heat increase, were lightest weapon & had lots of ammo per ton (100 shots per ton)

Oh I'm well aware of the TT rules, but I was going off of other MW titles that seemed to impart heat. If PGI just went the damage route there would be less chance of abuse.

It's almost time for the devs to playtest their latest build!

We've been a good little community this week. We've been nice to the waves of new people asking where to download the beta, and why the MadCat hasn't been shown yet. We've even washed behind our ears. We've all been minding Garth like good little mechboys and girls.

So do we get an after action report this week? Plllleeeeeeeeassseee pleeeeeassse? I'll never ask for anything ever again (until next week)

Anything new in the build? Any new 'mech chasis added? Where flamers used? Did Paul cry like usual? What maps did you play? What new gameplay mechanics are online? Does Matt N look pretty in his tiara?


Edit: Garth dropped this tidbit in another thread "PS. Playtest fridays are hilarious. I watched Thomas (look for him in the interview this month) overheat his Swayback to explosion four times in"

I'm not so sure... as customers/investors, its precicely "Our Business" that you need! I mean, our future financial transactions are strictly based on the answers to the questions there!

I want to test this game soooo bad. I dont even care if all i get to play as is a commando and i had to take on an atlas and 2 awesomes just let me play

This is a rule book I dont seem to have or cant find to read rule properly. So I may be wrong at least in part.

I have alot of the books but as stated apparently I either dont have this one or its not with my collection. I have most of the original books including the boxed set, the compendium, maximum tech & the 4th edition rules set. All the earlier ones only had it do damage but no heat. The later ones allowed an optional rule with all players agreement that flamers did 2 heat rather than the 2 damage to be decided each round - which means under these rules flamers did not as a standard effect cause heat to the enemy & you still increased your own heat by more than you could cause to the enemy if the optional rule was agreed by everyone.

As for what the heat causing effect on flamers from total warfare says I do not know so maybe they do more - I still stand by what I said though that flamers are the WORST weapon available & should be capable of inflicting more heat on the enemy than you yourself gain.

It's funny you should mention that, I heard you had to do just that, and win, in order to get into beta.

I think Garth and Bryan, will have to give a full report with screen shots, video and everything after this..

I say that because of all the goodwill they will have to bring to buffer Pauls trolling :unsure:

YEP.. I think we definately need to see the video of the new map with Pauls Mech(s) falling over in a heap with no arms B)

(Personally I think PAul got his butt handed too him tonight.. Which is why I think he was so grumpy.. )

You forget to tell him that his only task as beta tester will be to make sure that the Commando is properly balanced by taking on the Atlas and 2 Awesomes over and over and over again....
