Very interesting read, thanks for the info, hadn't even thought of looking up any of that before. As for it being Paul's sole point of view, I completely believe that. Does anyone think that Russ or Bryan would let Paul represent PGI on the forums? Or anywhere, for that matter? I'm amazed they even acknowledge he's an employee! (JK Paul, you're one of the coolest company types I've run across in a long time.)

The reason I started this thread is because I don't want this game to become like Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Even though it is PC exclusive and cost 200 million to make, the graphics are utter crap. They focus too much on the low entry that the higher end graphics suffer greatly.
I don't want Mechwarrior Online to suffer from this either.
I'm really happy you said that the "min spec is going to be higher than normal" Paul.
Because lets be honest, even the low end PCs have more horsepower than consoles now.

The new consoles will be using a GPU similar to a HD 6670, that's hilarious 0.0 I won't need to upgrade for 8 years since my PC is already twice as powerful xD

Yeah, you should've checked that out before you made this thread... 6670 is already horribly outdated on PC market yet it's suppose to beat out Xbox 720's competition by 20% or more

Anyway, yeah. Graphics are topping out. From now on we will see longer and longer console generations. upwards of 10 years each this time around.

I don't think the console/pc-war will ever end while both systems are existant.

For me the PC is superior in any way imaginable.

But the console has it's benefits too, especially for people who lack the understanding for pc's.
Anyone who has knowledge of pc's and hasn't been dragged to an electronics-shop by a relative or friend to help with chosing a pc may lift a hand.
People who don't know much about pc's get cheated by the sellers at the electronics-shop or have a crashing system because they don't know what to install and what not.
If they buy a console, they just connect it to their TV and can play every game which has the same logo as their console. They don't need to check for gpu, cpu, ram, hdd-space.

Both systems can be fun, I'll admit that.

What I want to say is: The real MechWarrior, the one that turned me into a fan and made me buy joysticks with a total cost of about 500€ over the years, where I spend hours in the mech-lab is not a casual-game like it's so common on consoles today.
The shamefull, so-called "mech-game" mech-assault, was no real battletech-game for me.
MechWarrior has a thick fan-base(How many games do you know, that have been redistributed for free by it's community? With new content?).
If MWO appeals to this fanbase, nothing should go wrong.
If it turns out to be such a rundown crap-ware like Mechassault(not even a segmented damage-model, pfff), it may appeal to casual-players for a short time, until they find better stuff and leave the game.

I severely doubt that this game is going to be threatened in any way by the upcoming release of the Xbox 720, the chipset that they are using in their new console will actually be a generation behind what most cards will be in the near future. The new Xbox is going to be using a version of the AMD 6670, while AMD is set to release the new 7xxx series at the end of this month.

Infact, by the time its tentative release date is reached (some analyst are saying fall 2013 at this point) MWO should have already have been released.

Basically what I am trying to say is this, when the XBox 720 does finally release, the quality of graphics compared to a modern (or possibly not so modern) PC will be severely lacking. The 6670 is a lower end budget card which pales in comparison to the 6770, 6950, and 6970 (and their NVidia counterparts), hell I've even heard that the AMD 5850 performs much much better then it. Plus, prices for current high end card are going to go nowhere but down as time goes on. As far as we know it will probably be possible to build a budget PC with much more graphical power then the newly released and most likely overpriced Xbox 720.

BTW system requirements for SW:tOR is pretty high, especially for CPU - I have quad-core Phenom, and location loadings ussualy take -1-1,5 mins. My friend's top intel quad could reduce it to 30 seconds, but it's still long enough. But there is no difference in graphic on old radeon 4870, 4870X2 and new 6970. No difference at all.

I have 3,5 years old PC and it's still capable to run almost every new game I wished to play. So yes, nowadays most of games are pretty much tuned for console's fail hardware, but there is a bright side here - I don't need an updrade still

About MechWarrior... I have no idea, how to play any Mechwarrior (except MW1 ofc) without mouse. I've played recently SpaceMarine game on my PC with mouse/keyboard and on my friend's Xbox with gamepad - and even with all of these aiming help it's still like playing hockey being tied to wheelchair. Well, I know, there are some mouse-like game controllers for PS3 and Xbox but still detect a fail there.

Consoles are great unless you have a family and can't get to the TV to play... I am a PC gamer through and through, send the rest out to the living room to watch TV and leave me to slug it out in peace

some of you disappoint me. To outright call console users 'dumb' because they either don’t have time or money to build and maintain a top of the line PC.. gee thanks. Sorry I am an Enlisted military personnel and your taxes are not high enough to give me more money so I can purchase $3,000.00 and then settle down and take the time to put it all together between deployments *thumbs up*

How about before blindly stating a group is 'x' you know what that group consists of.. in this case, most gamers..

You tell me what $600.00 PC you can buy that performs as well as an xbox? So before you go slamming a console because it does not live up to your PC, check the price tags.

The other thing, is Paul is absolutely right, MW:O Is free, and people will play it any way, console or not. I will play it any way even when I have a console.

as far as SWTOR go, that game has an 'art' style. its not the graphics but they were going for a look just like borderlands did.

What other game companies do as far as graphics goes, take your beef up with them, but I assure you, consoles have nothing to do with the graphics of a game unless they are intending it for console release.

I am very sure that they also have keep in mind (As far as the F2P games go) they have to keep in mind distribution, no one wants to sit and wait for 3 hrs to DL a game due to his large size thanks to its awesome graphics.
